The following morning, crisp and grey with maritime mist, Zevryn walked the soot-greased alleys of the Artisan Quarter until he reached the low-slung, stone-built workshop of Curnow’s Masterwork Armory.

The heat of the massive roaring forge washed over him as Master Curnow looked up from his anvil, a heavy hammer resting in his calloused hand. Without a word, the veteran smith hauled a heavy package onto the wooden counter and pulled back the oilcloth.

There lay Zevryn's custom ranger armor.

It was a masterclass in lethal craftsmanship. Crafted from alchemically treated shadow-hide boiled in vats infused with iron-bark resin and mountain-drake oil, the outer shell possessed a deep, non-reflective matte-black finish designed to swallow light and resist freezing rain or salt-rot. Beneath the supple leather plating lay a tightly woven, micro-linked mithril mesh, light as linen yet impenetrable to daggers or beast talons. Zev strapped the gear on, testing his range of motion. It was completely silent, hugging his whip-cord frame with absolute precision.

Satisfied, Zev cleared the remaining balance from his spatial ring, tossing a heavy pouch of gold onto the counter. Curnow grunted in mutual respect, returning to his anvil as the heavy hammer struck white-hot iron once more.

When Zev returned to his safehouse later that afternoon, Reniah was waiting by the courtyard entrance. Without a word, she handed him a folded scrap of parchment bearing the coarse seal of the Salty Kraken.

Zev unfolded it, his pale eyes scanning the innkeeper's jagged handwriting: Subtle inquiries being made regarding your background, your associates, and your recent movements. Handled carefully, but flagged for your attention.

Zev’s expression hardened into a cold mask. He pulled a heavy bag of silver coins from his belt and handed it to Reniah.

"Take this to the innkeeper," Zev instructed in a low, even tone. "Tell him I am paying for his full intelligence network. I want to know exactly who is asking about me, and why. At the same time, go to the alchemical quarters in the trade district and secure these specific reagents and small field equipment for me." He handed her a detailed list written on a slip of parchment.

Reniah nodded once, secured the coin and the list, and slipped out through the heavy iron gate.

True to her efficient nature, Reniah returned before evening shadows fully stretched across the courtyard. She had already completed the market run, storing the delicate alchemical components safely in the secondary room. When she presented a modest, hot evening meal, Zev shook his head slightly, holding up a hand.

"It is okay, take your rest," Zev said quietly. "I already ate of the leftovers from the trail."

Reniah gave a low, silent bow and withdrew to her separate quarters at the rear of the estate, closing her door softly behind her.

Left entirely alone in the quiet house, Zev stepped into the secondary room. He closed the heavy oak door, unlatched his bronze spatial ring, and focused his intent.

With a faint, sub-audible hum, the heavy, pulsating venom sac he had harvested from the Chitin-Stalker's carcass in the Iron Spine ruins materialized onto the wooden workbench. The dark, acidic fluid within sloshed sluggishly beneath its thick membrane.

Zev pulled open his leather tool roll, picked up a fine glass extraction vial, and smiled grimly in the flickering candlelight.
