Chapter 130: Chapter 130: Victory

And they were facing an army led by a Dungeon Lord who had already overcome opponents of considerably greater strength.

The first bulky Eera charged Gravemantle.

It raised a massive club and brought it down toward the beast’s head.

Gravemantle twisted aside.

The club struck the ground, cracking the stone.

Before the Eera could recover, Gravemantle drove its reinforced shoulder into its chest. The defender was lifted off its feet and hurled backward into two others.

Tolu moved through the opening.

His hammer struck the shield of the next defender with enough force to splinter its wooden supports. A second blow sent the Eera stumbling, and one of his creatures immediately forced it away from the centre.

Another bulky Eera attempted to rush Tolu from the side.

He pivoted and met it head-on.

The creature’s spear thrust toward his abdomen, but Tolu knocked the weapon aside with the shaft of his hammer. He stepped into its reach and struck its chest.

The Eera staggered.

Tolu followed with a blow to its leg, bringing it down.

He didn’t stop to watch it fall.

The fight continued around him, but the outcome was becoming clear.

The colony’s elite defenders were stronger than their ordinary workers, yet they couldn’t match Gravemantle’s raw power or Tolu’s growing mastery of earth techniques. Their numbers helped them pressure his forces, but their attacks were gradually losing coordination as their front line collapsed.

Tolu’s creatures pushed forward.

The bulky defenders retreated toward the fortress.

He allowed them to fall back.

He wanted them away from the central chamber before he approached the queen. A desperate final defence might damage the very creature he intended to rescue.

"Don’t destroy the fortress unless you have to!" he called. "Push them away from the entrance!"

His creatures obeyed.

Gravemantle smashed through a barricade, clearing the path to the central gates. Tolu’s flanking forces drove the remaining defenders toward the outer walls, preventing them from regrouping around the entrance.

One by one, the bulky Eera fell or withdrew.

At last, the path to the fortress stood open.

Tolu walked through the shattered gates.

---

The central chamber was much quieter than the cavern outside.

The walls were thicker here, and the floor was covered in layers of woven plant material and hardened earth. Large pillars supported the ceiling, while several tunnels led toward chambers hidden deeper within the structure.

At the far end stood the queen.

She was enormous compared with the ordinary Eera.

Her body occupied a broad, carefully prepared depression in the floor, surrounded by layers of protective material. Her thick chitin was darker than that of her subjects, and faint lines of energy pulsed beneath its surface.

Her abdomen was greatly enlarged, adapted for producing the eggs that sustained the colony. Her upper body, however, remained formidable. Two powerful arms rested against the ground, and her broad head was crowned with long antennae that moved slowly as she watched Tolu enter.

Her eyes were dark and intelligent.

There was no mindless fury in them.

Only exhaustion, suspicion, and an anger that had been held for far too long.

Chains ran from heavy metal restraints around her limbs to anchors embedded in the surrounding stone. Several thick bands encircled portions of her body, restricting her movement.

Tolu stopped several paces away.

He could feel the enemy Dungeon Lord’s authority pressing against the chamber.

The queen was not merely being held prisoner.

She was being exploited.

The restraints and surrounding structures were designed to keep her in place while the colony continued serving the enemy’s purposes.

Tolu’s expression hardened.

"So this is where you’ve been hiding her."

The queen’s antennae shifted.

A low, rumbling sound emerged from her throat. It was not quite a roar, nor was it the clicking language he had heard from the ordinary Eera.

Yet he felt the meaning behind it through the faint connection his dungeon authority had established with the chamber.

Another master.

Tolu remained still.

"I’m not the one who put those chains on you."

The queen watched him.

You came to take this dungeon.

"Yes."

Her mandibles moved.

Then you are no different.

Tolu considered the accusation.

"I won’t pretend I’m here out of kindness. I came to win a war, and I want you to become part of my dungeon."

The queen’s antennae stiffened.

Another cage.

"No."

Tolu’s voice was firm.

"I won’t promise you freedom if I intend to take it away. But I won’t force you to produce soldiers for me, and I won’t use your children as disposable weapons."

The queen remained silent.

Tolu continued.

"I can’t promise you that everything will be easy. You’ll be entering a new dungeon, under a different Dungeon Lord. You’ll need to learn how things work there, and I’ll need to understand your colony."

He glanced at the restraints.

"But I can promise you that I won’t keep you chained like this."

The queen studied him for a long moment.

Then her gaze shifted toward the entrance.

Beyond it, the sounds of battle were fading. His creatures had nearly secured the cavern, and the remaining Eera were no longer mounting an organized resistance.

The queen’s antennae lowered slightly.

If I refuse?

Tolu didn’t answer immediately.

He could have lied. He could have promised her whatever he thought she wanted to hear.

Instead, he told her the truth.

"Then I’ll still have to complete the war. But I won’t kill you simply because you refuse to serve me."

The queen’s eyes narrowed.

She was clearly searching for a hidden condition.

There wasn’t one.

After a long silence, she lowered her head.

The movement was slow and deliberate.

I cannot defeat you.

Tolu said nothing.

My strongest warriors have fallen. My nest has been breached. The master who held me here is no longer able to protect me.

Her mandibles tightened.

I surrender.

Tolu exhaled.

For the first time since entering the enemy dungeon, he allowed himself to relax slightly.

"Good."

He approached the restraints.

"They won’t be needed anymore."

He raised his hammer and struck the first metal anchor.

The stone surrounding it cracked.

A second blow shattered the anchor, releasing one of the chains.

Tolu moved to the next.

One by one, the restraints fell away.

The queen did not attempt to attack him. She watched silently as the final band dropped to the floor.

When she was free, she slowly shifted her enormous body, testing her movement.

Her antennae rose.

Across the cavern beyond the fortress, the remaining Eera began to quiet.

Tolu felt the change through his dungeon authority. The queen’s presence had become stronger now that the restraints were gone, and the connection between her and the colony was reasserting itself.

The Eera were still wary.

They had just fought an invading army, and many of their warriors had been defeated.

But their queen was alive.

And she was no longer chained.

Tolu turned toward the entrance.

"Heart, initiate the transfer."

Understood, my Lord.

The dungeon’s energy gathered around the queen.

For a moment, the chamber filled with a deep, resonant pulse. The restraints scattered across the floor trembled, and the faint energy lines running through the walls flickered.

Then the queen disappeared.

The cavern fell silent.

Tolu felt her presence settle within his own dungeon, joining Gravemantle as his second Level Three creature.

The connection was immediate, but not simple.

He could sense the queen’s exhaustion, her immense reserves of energy, and the vast biological potential contained within her body. He could also feel the countless lives connected to her colony, spread throughout the conquered dungeon.

Not every Eera had become his creature instantly, and he would not assume otherwise. Their loyalty, their adaptation to his authority, and the future of the colony would need to be handled carefully.

But the queen was his now.

And with her came the possibility of an army unlike anything he had ever possessed.

Tolu stood alone in the central chamber for several seconds.

Then he smiled.

The war had been worth it.

---

When Tolu returned to the cavern, the remaining Eera had gathered in the open spaces between their tunnels.

Some were wounded. Others stood beside their fallen companions. Many watched him with obvious hostility, while a few seemed uncertain about what would happen next.

Tolu raised one hand.

"Stop fighting!"

His voice carried across the cavern.

His own creatures immediately halted.

The Eera hesitated before gradually lowering their weapons.

Tolu looked over the colony.

"I have won this war. Your queen is alive, and she is now part of my dungeon."

A wave of clicking swept through the gathered Eera.

He waited for it to subside.

"I won’t demand that you understand everything immediately. But the fighting is over. Anyone who continues attacking will be treated as a threat. Those who stand down will be left alone."

The Eera exchanged signals.

Some lowered their spears.

Others retreated toward the tunnels.

A few remained motionless, their antennae twitching as they tried to interpret the new situation.

Tolu didn’t demand that they bow.

He didn’t expect them to cheer.

He had invaded their home and defeated their defenders. Their suspicion was entirely reasonable.

Instead, he turned toward his creatures.

"Secure the entrances. Gather our wounded, collect what we can safely carry, and make sure the surviving Eera aren’t trapped beneath collapsing structures."

He looked toward the workshop passages.

"And preserve their tools. I want to understand how they built this place."

The Heart responded.

Your dungeon has successfully defeated the opposing Level Three dungeon. The queen has been transferred into your dungeon, and your authority over your territory has strengthened.

Tolu’s smile widened.

A second Level Three creature.

A potentially enormous colony.

And an entire collection of mechanical designs that might transform his dungeon’s defences.

He had entered the war looking for resources.

He was leaving with something far more valuable.

As Tolu began directing the cleanup, he glanced once more toward the fortress where the queen had been held.

The Eera had spent their lives building tunnels, crafting tools, and defending their colony. Their numbers had made them dangerous, but their intelligence had made them exceptional.

With time, they might become the foundation of his dungeon’s entire infrastructure.

He could already imagine defensive walls reinforced with their techniques, traps hidden throughout the passages, and specialised Eera maintaining the structures while others gathered resources or defended the territory.

It wouldn’t happen overnight.

There would be difficulties, resistance, and a great deal to learn.

But for the first time, Tolu could see the beginnings of something much larger than a collection of powerful beasts.

He was building an army.

And now, that army had a queen.
