Chapter 269: Tears of the divine tree
During the entire fight with Kaal, Damon was oblivious to how silent most of Nahaar had grown.
Almost everyone had expected a high stakes battle between the finalists, both to be evenly match and only for one to win at the end by the skin of his teeth, that was how a final match was supposed to go.
But what they got to witness was one side effortlessly overpowering the other. It was anticlimactic, and at the same time shocking and entertaining.
"Damon... he really has grown this much stronger huh?" Alistair muttered, his eyes fixed on the ongoing battle.
Elsa who was by his side scooted closer to him. "Don’t worry yourself, you have an omega ranked physique, you’ll eventually surpass him." She said. "To you, this strength he’s showing might as well be a fluke."
"Maybe you’re right." Alistair muttered. Elsa was right. For all of the unruly prince’s strength now, Alistair would eventually surpass him.
Meanwhile, the demons were having their entire worldview collapsed, case in point the youths. They saw Kaal, the figure who had stood above them all, and the figure whom they believed could defeat anyone in this generation, was effortlessly getting his ass handed to him.
Kaal was the one who usually handed people’s ass to them, not to mention he could fight and defeat people a rank above him, two ranks even.
But there was something they forgot to put into their equation, most geniuses who participated in the convergence could fight and defeat ordinary people above their rank, it just depended on how ordinary is defined.
To Damon, anyone not in the realm of Namor, Alistair, Kaal, Anastasia, Rose, Mayura, and a few others, might as well be ordinary.
In the secret realm with the addition however, the faces of Rhudeus, and that of Regulus who usually looked confident and boisterous were sullen.
In retrospect, the rest of the people in the room were glad about it, and didn’t hesitate to show their reactions.
"My my, and I thought this demon boy was supposed to be the top prodigy Nahaar has ever seen." Ellaria chuckled.
"That’s what I heard." Selene nodded.
"But it doesn’t exactly paint a good picture seeing him knocked around like that." Ellaria continued.
"What are you saying, seeing him knocked around like a ragdoll is exactly what paints a good picture." Sevas was quick to interject with an amused smile.
Safe for Amon, Yvonne, Alexa, Lucas, and Celeste, the rest continued to throw underhanded jabs at the two demons in the room.
"Sigh, looks like no one is taking home the prize pool we placed a bet with after all." Selene shook her head as Damon’s final kick to the head dropped Kaal unconscious.
"A shame really." Ellaria nodded in agreement, but she didn’t hide her joy about that. If anyone had taken home what she had placed in the price pool, it would be in history for years to come.
At that same moment however, a voice interrupted her thoughts. "Who said no one would be taking the prize home, I also placed a bet, did I not?" Amon asked.
"Hahaha, You’re making me laugh, Amon." said, his voice dripping with amusement. "So what if your child won, the one you placed a bet on was that daughter of yours who lost ages ago, and that was before you even knew this boy was present."
"In case you forgot, let me remind you." Amon replied, a replica of of the aether contract they had signed materializing before everyone.
"Where in this contract, did I explicitly state that my daughter would win the championship?" Amon asked as everyone re-read the contract. "I believe, ’my offspring’ translates to any child I have fathered, which includes Damon. So unless you intend to face a severe backlash, I’d suggest you follow the terms of the contract."
"You devious bastard." Sevas turned to him with a calculating smile. "Now I’m starting to doubt you didn’t know that little bastard was alive."
"I would prefer if you stopped calling my son a bastard, Sevas." Yvonne’s icy voice echoed through the hall.
"Overprotective mother, I see." Sevas chuckled, before switching his attention somewhere else.
"My man, Regulus, why are you suddenly so silent? Your dear nephew disappointed you, didn’t he?" Sevas asked, and Regulus could only grit his teeth in frustration.
"Enough, Sevas." Rhudeus muttered darkly. "We acknowledge that the demon race has lost and that the human race has won, I think that ought to make you stop trying to provoke us."
"Man, everyone is no fun, what about you, my dear Celeste?"
"I’ll kill you." was her response.
"We’re being called to grace the youths and grant the prize to the champion." Lucas muttered before Sevas could provoke anyone else.
"If that is the case, I think now is also the moment to present the new seat to everyone." Celeste suggested.
"No." Amon immediately interjected. "It might alert ’them’ too soon."
"I agree with you." Yvonne nodded.
"If only I also had someone who could give me support in this council." Sevas shook his head in mock disappointment.
If a glare could kill, Celeste’s glare would have long killed Sevas.
All the Demi immortals in the room disappeared, safe for Yvonne.

Meanwhile, Damon’s POV
"DAMON DARKFELL WINS!!" A much less enthusiastic voice came from the proctor.
"Well, that does it." I muttered turning away from the unconscious prince. A moment later, my form disappeared and reappeared back on the floating platform.
The atmosphere was entirely different from what it was before. The humans were rejoicing, the demons looked glum, while the other two races looked conflicted.
"You’re making Mama proud, son." Dion wiped a fake tear from his eyes.
"Quit your shenanigans, or nothing will be left of you when I’m done with you." Rose sharply threatened him.
"Yes, your highness." Dion straightened almost instantly.
"While I’m somewhat sad that you’ve surpassed us all, congratulations all the same." Aric said with a smile.
"Us all? Speak for yourself. It’ll only be a matter of time until I’m ahead once more." Sia intoned.
"Well, by all means, you are welcome to be my guest, Sia." I chuckled. If there were any chance of Sia surpassing me, it wouldn’t be until we reached the Delta rank and could impose our will on reality. Time would be a really badass law to enforce.
Before anyone else could have the chance to congratulate me, the proctor’s voice washed over our eardrums.
"NOW FOR THE GRAND FINALE OF THE CONVERGENCE OF RACES, I WOULD LIKE TO CALL UPON THE ESTEEMED SEATS OF THE GRAND TEMPLAR TO BESTOW UPON IS THEIR PRESENCE AND GRANT THE CHAMPION HIS PRIZE!!!"
A second later, ten regal figures manifested above the floating platform, I could make out Father, and the man with the red hair, Sevas Necron. Then there was Alexa Hargreaves, and the Chancellor of the Astral mystic institute.
"I greet the seat holders of the Grand templar." The proctor bowed, with none of his usual booming voice.
Following his lead, every youth also bowed.
"We greet the seat holders of the Grand templar."
"Arise." Ten different voices rang out simultaneously, after which we all straightened.
"Since the begining of the alliance against the Darkwalkers, the convergence has been taking place every one hundred years." The demon I presumed to be the demon emperor judging from the crown on his head began.
"And it hasn’t ceased to be so for almost a millennia." The duke of the demon empire continued after him.
"Over the years, it has been organized in different continents, hosted by different races." The merfolk Empress said.
"This time, it was the demon continent’s turn to host it." The merlady next to the merfolk Empress who bore a striking resemblance to Sia Said.
’Her mother.’ I thought, remembering the origin story she had shared with us the day before.
"Like every other convergence, the champion has a right to a chance." Father continued.
’Finally something nice to hear.’ I thought. I would be getting the chance to commune with the consciousness of the divine tree, or as it’s mostly interpreted, the consciousness of Nahaar, semi conscious as it might be.
But I was sure they weren’t going to mention the spoils the human race would be getting from this.
Of course, the four races wouldn’t actually take the convergence seriously if all that happened at at end was for the champion to get a prize.
There was another reason for the convergence, and that reason was; Tears of the divine tree.
It was the mystical sap produced at the very heart of the divine tree, which was by the way in a secret groove inside the tree that opens once in a hundred years.
Only about a litre was produced in that hundred years, and no living creature under the delta rank can survive taking more than a drop of it.
