The Eldritch Files
Chapter 345: Our Enemies (3)
‘With everyone else in a state of severe panic and confusion, it was his responsibility to stabilize morale.’
The two met in the hotel lobby but didn’t greet each other. They went straight to the elevator and up to the 17th floor.
Rong Qiyue grew more and more nervous, because he was about to see Han Su.
He straightened his hair, then solemnly raised his hand and knocked—KNOCK KNOCK.
The door opened quickly. A man with a wide grin appeared, wearing nothing but a towel, his hair sopping wet.
“Han…”
Rong Qiyue, a smile already plastered on his face, froze when he saw the man. “Who are you?”
The man, drying his hair, grinned and looked at Wei Lan. “Is this one from the Ancient Castle too?”
Wei Lan recognized him and nodded lightly.
The man tossed aside the towel he was using on his hair and extended a hand to Rong Qiyue. “Hello, Lu Neng!”
“President of the Qinggang Branch of the Monster Guest Alliance, East Region. Feel free to contact me directly for any future business.”
“…”
“The Monster Guest Alliance?”
Rong Qiyue was stunned for a moment. But upon hearing the name “Monster Guest Alliance,” he shuddered, and his eyes suddenly sharpened.
He’d heard of the organization—they were notoriously evil. They’d never done a single good deed, and their actions were completely illogical. Putting that together with the man’s introduction, he immediately asked, “Weren’t you the one who pulled that big job in Seawall City?”
Lu Neng smiled and nodded. “That’s right!”
Rong Qiyue’s expression had turned strange. “That was my family’s stuff… My surname is Rong!”
Lu Neng chuckled. “Nice to meet you!”
Rong Qiyue found the situation surreal. “Is that all? Just ‘nice to meet you’?”
Lu Neng’s smile was radiant, showing not a hint of guilt. “What else is there to say? I didn’t know you back then.”
Rong Qiyue was on the verge of losing it, but he held back. “And what about from now on?”
Lu Neng said, “From now on, business will still be business. Just because we’re friends, you expect me to abandon my professional ethics?”
“…At most, when you buy your stuff back, I can give you a 5% discount?”
“…”
Rong Qiyue stared at the man’s still-radiant smile, suddenly at a loss for how to continue the conversation.
It was Wei Lan who broke the impasse. “Where is he?”
Lu Neng understood who she was asking about. He chuckled, turned around, and pulled a bottle of wine from a nearby ice bucket. “No idea. I came straight here, had a bit of trouble finding this room, and saw no one was here. So, I decided to take a shower first and wait for you guys.”
“After all, flying a plane for half the night is a bit tiring… You guys want a glass of wine?”
“…”
Rong Qiyue, still annoyed, plopped down on the sofa, showing no interest whatsoever.
Wei Lan paused when she heard the three words “flying a plane.” She smiled and asked, “You know how to fly?”
“I can take off, but I can’t land.”
Lu Neng replied casually as he opened the wine. He brought it to his nose for a sniff and said, “Are you two sure you don’t want a glass?”
Wei Lan shook her head with a smile, but Rong Qiyue let out a cold laugh. “You can fly but not land? If you can’t land, how did you get here? No, wait. Where did you even get a plane?”
“There are so many of them just sitting at the airport…”
Lu Neng said, “Landing’s easy. You just fly overhead, turn on autopilot, and then jump out with a parachute, right?”
Of course, his ridiculous words were just a joke, but Rong Qiyue suddenly felt like he was missing something.
Just then, Lu Neng spoke again. “This is some nice wine…”
“I arrived a bit early, so I took a stroll around Giant Horn City. I just so happened to stumble upon a wine cellar that’s been in some noble family for over a thousand years. And inside, I found this bottle. Judging by how well it’s been preserved, it should be pretty expensive…”
“Huh?”
Rong Qiyue’s head snapped up. He glanced at the amber liquid, then stood up decisively, grabbed a glass, and held it out:
“Just a splash…”
Wei Lan also gave it a thoughtful look before slowly accepting the glass Lu Neng offered her.
…
…
When Han Su arrived outside the window, this was the scene that greeted him: the three of them sitting on the sofa, holding wine glasses, with a bag of potato chips Rong Qiyue had brought from the plane sitting in front of them. The atmosphere was incredibly harmonious.
Lu Neng had said something that made Rong Qiyue laugh and slap his thigh, his arm slung around Lu Neng’s shoulder as if they were brothers who had been close for years.
Even Wei Lan was pressing her lips together to hold back a smile, her eyes full of mirth as she gently swirled the wine in her glass.
‘Is this right?’
Han Su glanced back. The projection of the Fertile Forest, summoned by the Little Lamb Girl, was still imprinted over the lights of Giant Horn City.
The entire city had a gloomy, oppressive feeling.
And in the room…
‘…It’s like they’re on vacation!’
For a moment, he wondered if he should reprimand them.
But he dismissed the thought in the next instant and simply tapped lightly on the window. Wei Lan immediately rose and opened it for him.
As Han Su entered the room, he gave Rong Qiyue a somewhat surprised look. “Why are you here too?”
‘I remember only asking Wei Lan to call Lu Neng over, and to ask about Lü Xiaobai…’
The smile on Rong Qiyue’s face twisted once again. “For something this important, why didn’t you call for me?”
“It’s fine that you’re here.”
Han Su set down the briefcase in his hand and turned to Lu Neng. Seeing that he was about to say something, Han Su simply handed the items over.
“It’s all here!”
“The Glasses grant a form of logical vision. You can see your target directly by tracing the connections between things!”
“The Pocket Watch steals time for your mind. In a single second, it can grant you half an hour, or even three hours, of thinking time to devise the perfect strategy. But it consumes a massive amount of your Spiritual Power.”
“…”
“Whoa…”
Lu Neng couldn’t hold back a grin. He shot to his feet, took the items, and turned them over and over in his hands.
When he looked back at Han Su, he couldn’t contain his excitement. “So, who are we killing?”
Han Su said, “Skinning Manor. Count Albarrez!”
The answer came so quickly that the room fell instantly silent. Rong Qiyue and Wei Lan were stunned on the spot. Even Lu Neng, who had been joyfully examining the two mysterious items in his hands, was snapped out of his reverie. “Holy shit, you’re actually serious about killing someone?”
“It’s not just about killing someone.”
Han Su shook his head. He took a glass of wine from Wei Lan, sat down on the sofa, and began to speak slowly. “Everyone, we have just suffered a crushing defeat.”
“But we’ve also essentially figured out the kidnapping case we were caught up in.”
“What pushed us into the Ancient Castle was a plan called the Seven Days of Divine Descent. The goal is to permanently combat the Tide. The Executor is the Abyssal Studio, the same group that previously attacked Qinggang. The ones who authorized them to carry out this plan are the World Council, or rather, the ancient Noble Bloodline.”
“The ones who cooperated with this were three high-level figures in Qinggang. The ones who supervised it were the Circulating Knight Order!”
“So, for now, we have essentially identified our enemies!”
“It’s time to think about how we’re going to win this war!”
