The End of the Immortal Path
Chapter 645 - 347: The Despair of an Ant Shaking a Tree
Chapter 645: Chapter 347: The Despair of an Ant Shaking a Tree
Ji Linglong felt it was strange; these people seemed to be somewhat delusional. No matter how confident they were in Jiang Man, they still needed to abide by basic logic. Jiang Man had only advanced to the Primordial Spirit realm a few years ago. Even if his progress was fast and he had reached the Middle Stage of Primordial Spirit in just one year, it was impossible for him to reach the peak of the realm now.
He had spent two and a half years in the Inner Sect. Even if he had spent all his time on Cultivation, it was still only two and a half years of practice. There was no way he could be invincible. At a rate of advancing one minor stage per year, it would still take four years. Not to mention, the Spiritual Level of the Nine-star Series had a Ninth Layer, which would consume even more time.
Despite her rationalization, with no other options available, Ji Linglong could only hope these people were right. At least it gave her some hope. But once Jiang Man actually fought, that hope might shatter entirely.
Jiang Man didn’t pay attention to any of this. It was his first time participating in the assessment, and he was curious about exactly how many points he could score. "Should I suppress my strength a bit?" he wondered. "If my score is too high, will I lose the financial support of the three Gold Masters from the Ji Family?"
Soon, the books were distributed.
"There are three books: the first tests Cultivation, the second tests the Physical Body, and the third tests the strength of Spirit or Primordial Spirit," Mr. Yan said seriously as he looked at the crowd. "In the afternoon, there will be actual combat. The final results will be announced tomorrow, and the scoring system is the same as the July assessment.
"Those in the Primordial Spirit realm with a score of eighty-five or above can participate in the top-three assessment."
Jiang Man looked at Mr. Yan and asked, "Mr. Yan, this is my first assessment. I would like to know what a perfect score is."
Taken aback, Mr. Yan asked, "A perfect score? The perfect score for a conventional Primordial Spirit?"
Jiang Man nodded.
"Eighty-four points," Mr. Yan answered truthfully.
Jiang Man was stunned. "A perfect score is eighty-four?" he asked in surprise.
"That is the conventional score, but none of you can be considered a conventional Primordial Spirit. Naturally, the requirement is one point higher," Mr. Yan explained.
It was actually just one point higher. This was something Jiang Man hadn’t expected.
However, if the conventional perfect score was eighty-four, that meant each minor realm was worth seven points. "Then, wouldn’t an unconventional score be over a hundred points?" he wondered.
Mr. Yan’s voice continued, "The unconventional perfect score is ninety-nine points."
Jiang Man pondered for a moment. That meant starting from the fifth Spiritual Level, each realm would only be worth three points. However, there might still be some differentiation based on strength within those stages. The scores might not be completely fixed, either.
Afterward, Jiang Man asked if there was any extra reward for getting a perfect score. Mr. Yan shook his head and said that such rewards were only given during the major assessment.
Hearing this, Jiang Man asked no further questions. Instead, he opened the first book, which tested Cultivation.
The test was still conducted through writing. The power within one’s body would be drawn out by the book, guiding the pen to write. Jiang Man didn’t suppress his strength in the slightest, allowing his power to circulate freely as he wrote down the contents. As long as he finished writing everything, he would receive the full Cultivation score. If anything was left unwritten, points would be deducted.
Jiang Man wrote everything down without holding back. He did the same for the Physical Body assessment.
However, when it came to the Spirit assessment, Jiang Man hesitated. He decided to try controlling his score.
The morning assessment passed without incident, with everyone writing with all their might. Jiang Man didn’t write fast. He didn’t pursue speed; instead, he focused on sensing the traction of his power during the assessment process. Doing so allowed him to gain better control over his strength.
When it was finally over, he exhaled heavily.
"Young Master, how did you do on the exam?" Qing Dai asked curiously.
"I should have about eighty-five points," Jiang Man replied calmly.
Hearing this, Ji Linglong, who was standing nearby, was taken aback. "Eighty-five?"
She only had the confidence to score an eighty. Meanwhile, Bai Ming, who had just advanced his Cultivation, wouldn’t be able to get a perfect score; he would score an eighty-five or eighty-six at most.
Before she could voice her doubts, Mr. Yan’s voice rang out, "Let’s begin the draw. Those in the Primordial Spirit realm will draw first."
There were six people in total in the Primordial Spirit realm. Soon, the results were out.
Jiang Man versus Ji Meng.
Qing Dai versus Qi Xi.
Ji Linglong versus Bai Ming.
Looking at the lot he drew, Jiang Man helplessly glanced at Ji Meng beside him.
"Has Young Master Jiang decided to show me what you’re made of?" Ji Meng asked with a smile.
"Let’s agree beforehand: you cannot use the Charm Technique," Jiang Man said solemnly.
Ji Meng nodded. "Alright."
Jiang Man hesitated for a moment before asking again, "Miss Ji Meng, what is your Cultivation level?"
He didn’t want to fail right out of the gate. If they really fought, even if he gave it his all, he might not be a match for Ji Meng. Even using the Evil God’s Technique wouldn’t guarantee a victory. Securing first place was going to be genuinely difficult.
"The Late Stage of Primordial Spirit," Ji Meng replied. "Advancing in the Primordial Spirit realm isn’t that easy."
Jiang Man was still a little worried. He might not be able to beat someone at the Late Stage, either.
The first match was between Ji Linglong and Bai Ming. The winter wind poured down from above the courtyard, making everyone’s robes flap wildly.
Ji Linglong frowned, deciding to wear down her opponent’s stamina. Ji Meng and Jiang Man definitely wouldn’t consume too much energy in their match. Actually, there was another option. These people were coming for Jiang Man, so if he lost to Ji Meng, there would be no problem later on. It wouldn’t cause any damage to his Heart Spirit, either. Yielding to his future fiancée was no big deal. It was much better than being completely crushed by someone at Primordial Spirit Perfection.
"Pardon my offense," Bai Ming said as he stood in the center of the arena, a smile on his lips and his white clothes billowing in the wind. "Right now, I am invincible in this courtyard. Even if all of you teamed up, you might not be my match. What chance do you have alone?"
There was one thing he didn’t say out loud—that he could even defeat Mr. Yan with a flick of his wrist. But that would be too audacious and disrespectful to say. If he dared utter those words, Mr. Ji and Mr. Tantai would definitely teach him a lesson on how to behave.
They were more enthusiastic about teaching Mr. Yan than anyone else. Was it really just because Mr. Yan was a teaching assistant? It was obvious they were intentionally cultivating him. Besides, why would a Golden Core underachiever be teaching a group of Golden Core geniuses, Primordial Spirit prodigies, and even peerless talents with Great Success in the Nine-star Series? He wouldn’t believe it if there wasn’t a powerful figure backing Mr. Yan.
After Mr. Yan announced the start of the match, Ji Linglong didn’t hesitate in the slightest. She took a step forward, and her aura erupted violently. Her long hair was whipped up by the shockwave, and dark clouds gathered from all directions, blocking out the winter sun.
