The End of the Immortal Path

Chapter 659: Chapter 352: You Two Really Haven’t Held Hands Yet?
Three days later.
It took the Old Yellow Ox that long to return to normal.
"Old Huang, you were silent before Ting Fengyin arrived. Why did you stay silent for another few days after he left?" Jiang Man asked.
Lately, Jiang Man had been digesting everything Ting Fengyin had taught him. Furthermore, he was gathering the Power of the Evil God. This was his greatest reliance in the upcoming fight against the Bai Family Ancestor. Everything else was just icing on the cake; having enough Power of the Evil God was the most crucial factor. Otherwise, no matter how much his cultivation improved, it would be impossible to kill the Bai Family Ancestor while only in the Primordial Spirit Realm.
"You don’t understand him," the Old Yellow Ox said, munching on some grass.
Jiang Man’s curiosity was piqued. "What was Ting Fengyin like in the past?"
From Ting Fengyin himself, Jiang Man had only gathered one conclusion: he was invincible. No one was his match, and summoning him came with side effects. Beyond that, Jiang Man knew absolutely nothing about him—except that he was terrible at fishing.
The Old Yellow Ox looked at Jiang Man. "Evil Gods consider it a massive taboo to even mention him. Sometimes, you don’t even need to use his name; just bringing up certain deeds can draw his attention."
Jiang Man was astonished. He was that formidable?
"Is Ting Fengyin from the Immortal Court?" Jiang Man asked.
The Old Yellow Ox shook his head, though he didn’t say a word. Jiang Man wasn’t sure how to interpret that. Did it mean ’no’, or did it mean ’I don’t know’?
He didn’t press the matter and instead brought up the items he had obtained this time.
"The Celestial Secret Leaf is indeed useful to you," the Old Yellow Ox said, looking at the leaf. "When you need to use it, just eat it directly. It will essentially prevent your actions from being divined through heavenly secrets. As for the altar’s origins, it’s hard to say."
Jiang Man nodded and then took out the Immeasurable Calamity Stone. "Old Huang, do you want to sense it and see if you can figure out a Skill to use it?"
The Old Yellow Ox stared at Jiang Man and remained silent for a long time.
"My strength isn’t high enough. I’m afraid an accident might happen if I try to sense it," Jiang Man explained.
The Old Yellow Ox fell silent again before lowering his head to eat grass.
Jiang Man put the stone away. He wasn’t in a hurry to probe it right now; he would try again after he finished dealing with his recent busy schedule.
Next was the accumulation of the Power of the Evil God. A portion of the gathered power came from the Ling Hua Immortal Spirit, and another portion came from Mu Kong. Late at night, he would consume a Celestial Secret Leaf and head to the Sect’s lake to leave a mark, waiting for the day it would be triggered.
When that time came, it would be the moment to kill the Bai Family Ancestor.
Late July.
Ren Qian tracked down Jiang Man to brief him on the mission. So far, they had scouted three locations and found clues in all of them. The most likely places to hold the Supreme Heart Hall were the Sea Area and the mountain range. Because they were running out of time, they couldn’t narrow it down any further. Of course, the discarded stone forest could also have been the correct choice.
Now that the people from the Immortal Sect were short on time, the Zhenyue Bureau had officially issued the mission. They were about to distribute assignments, so Ren Qian asked Jiang Man which location he wanted to go to.
Without the slightest hesitation, Jiang Man chose the Sea Area. He was already certain that the item was located there.
Afterward, Ren Qian informed him that they needed to depart before mid-August and travel through the Overseas Islands. Spiritual Qi was completely sealed off in that region, and there were many subordinates of the Evil God stationed there, making the journey highly dangerous. Furthermore, he warned Jiang Man that the Upper Courtyard assessment was also in August, meaning the two events would likely clash.
This realization made Jiang Man freeze. If he could only choose one, it would be a disaster. He needed the promotion, but he also needed to visit the Supreme Heart Hall. If he missed this chance, who knew when the next promotion opportunity would arise? That would give those with a peerless Fate Chart the chance to catch up to him.
"Junior Brother, it’s best you go ask about the specific details and see if there’s a way to get the best of both worlds," Ren Qian said thoughtfully. "On our end, we have no choice but to follow the Immortal Sect’s schedule, unless you plan to go alone."
Jiang Man nodded in understanding. "Can I go alone?"
Ren Qian nodded. "You can, and you’d still be able to accept the mission, but the level of danger would be incredibly high."
Jiang Man understood perfectly. That place was the Wuyou Evil God’s territory; going there alone would be like a lamb walking into a lion’s den. Without someone to stall the Wuyou Evil God, it would be nearly impossible for him to get inside.
After hesitating for a long time, Jiang Man finally sought out Mr. Yan.
Mr. Yan still bore some lingering injuries. Upon seeing Jiang Man, she sighed with some emotion, "You definitely didn’t come to visit me just to see how I’m doing."
Jiang Man paused. "Why would you say that, Mr. Yan?"
"Then don’t mention any other business," Mr. Yan said, staring intently at him.
Jiang Man fell silent for a moment.
"You went quiet," Mr. Yan said with a helpless sigh. "Spit it out. What’s the matter?"
Jiang Man took out some Elixirs and Spirit Medicines. "I brought these for you, Mr. Yan."
Offering a carrot before the stick. Mr. Yan felt that she was drifting further and further away from her ideal peaceful life.
Finally, Jiang Man spoke up, "Mr. Yan, I’d like to apply to take the Upper Courtyard assessment early. Do you think that’s feasible?"
*Again?* Mr. Yan was startled inwardly. However, she quickly shook her head. "No, the Upper Courtyard assessment involves the qualification for Returning Void. It cannot be advanced arbitrarily." She paused and asked curiously, "Are you in a rush?"
"Yes, I have to go out on a mission in the middle of the month," Jiang Man said.
Mr. Yan was silent for a moment before replying, "There is actually another way."
Jiang Man looked surprised. "What way?"
"You can apply to complete the assessment in the form of a mission. However, because it involves quotas, you’d need the people from the Upper Courtyard to agree to temporarily withhold a Returning Void quota." Mr. Yan looked at him and added, "I can’t help you with this, but don’t you have a sponsor? You can go to her."
Jiang Man inquired about a few more details. Basically, someone needed to step forward to finalize this matter for him, and they had to get the Upper Courtyard to formally agree to it.
Afterward, Jiang Man went to find Yu Wanyi.
"Senior Sister, why are you still in prison?" Jiang Man asked upon seeing a haggard Yu Wanyi in her cell.
"You don’t understand. They need a common enemy. Without an enemy, they need someone who is a shared nuisance. I am fulfilling my grand plan," Yu Wanyi replied.
Jiang Man didn’t ask any further and instead brought up the purpose of his visit.
