Chapter 670: Chapter 356: The Aftermath of Ting Fengyin’s Power

"Help out?"

Inside the great hall, Jiang Man looked up at the old man in front of him, rather curious.

Jiang Man had already stopped his Cultivation. He had been absorbing energy perfectly fine when the old man suddenly walked in with a young woman.

The old man stated that everything had been arranged. There were only two things left to address: first, signing some approvals, and second, helping with the missing persons on the island.

Regarding the approvals, Jiang Man casually signed the documents. He used Peak Master Bai’s name. If anything went wrong, they could just go looking for that Peak Master; it would have absolutely nothing to do with him. He figured Peak Master Bai could withstand any retaliation from these people.

As for helping out, Jiang Man was curious but not entirely surprised. After all, the other party had to make some sort of move, which undoubtedly involved ulterior motives. However, he didn’t refuse, because they promised to reward him handsomely.

Jiang Man set down his brush and looked at the old man with a troubled expression. "We came here for a mission, which is a grand plan of the Immortal Court. In principle, we cannot afford any unnecessary complications. However, since fate has brought us together, it would be unreasonable not to help. It’s just... quite a difficult position for us."

At first, the old man thought Jiang Man was going to refuse. Since this grand plan could not fail, he was just about to up the ante. But the latter half of Jiang Man’s sentence made everything clear to him.

He immediately took out ten thousand Spirit Stones from his sleeve and spoke respectfully. "This is just a small token of my appreciation. If the matter is resolved, there will certainly be a heavy reward."

Jiang Man looked at the ten thousand Spirit Stones. He wondered if such a paltry amount was supposed to make him jump into a trap.

His troubled expression deepened. "Ten thousand Spirit Stones is indeed a lot, and in principle, I could help a fellow Daoist out. However, our time is extremely precious. We must spend every minute and every second on our Cultivation. Not cultivating means no progress, and no progress means falling behind. That is a truly terrifying thing."

He pushed the Spirit Stones back. "We can only lend a helping hand when we finally have some free time."

The old man froze, astonished. The other party actually looked down on this amount of Spirit Stones.

He increased the stakes.

Twenty thousand.

Jiang Man claimed they had to focus entirely on their mission, so their Cultivation could not be halted.

Forty thousand.

Jiang Man argued that even if they could rest during the mission, their time was still severely limited.

One hundred thousand.

Jiang Man countered that even if they rested and had enough time, they still needed to prepare for unexpected variables.

Elder Chu was shocked, never expecting Jiang Man’s appetite to be so massive. He thought bumping the offer up to one hundred thousand would be more than enough, but the man barely relented.

"Five hundred thousand. I have no more than that," Elder Chu said helplessly. If this didn’t work, he truly had nothing left to give, and their plan would likely have to take a different approach.

Even the young woman standing behind him looked stunned. This man was far greedier than she had anticipated, but such people were the easiest to exploit.

"It’s hard to decline such great hospitality." Looking at him, Jiang Man’s expression finally softened a fraction as he sighed. "In that case, it wouldn’t be right for me to stand by and do nothing." After speaking, he just stared at the old man.

Elder Chu felt quite uncomfortable being stared at so intently. Finally, he gave in. "I will have someone prepare it immediately. I will certainly gather the full amount before the Immortals set out."

That evening.

Five hundred thousand Spirit Stones were delivered.

Jiang Man fell silent as he looked at the mountain-like pile of Spirit Stones. Spiritual Sources could be stacked together, but Spirit Stones could not. Five hundred thousand was simply too much; his own Storage Treasure couldn’t fit them all.

Jiang Man turned to look at Shen Yao and the others.

Shen Yao blinked and pointed at herself. "We get a share too?"

Jiang Man didn’t answer her. Instead, he asked, "Is your Storage Treasure big?"

Shen Yao was speechless.

In the end, the vast majority of the stones were stuffed into Shen Yao’s Storage Treasure.

To be safe, Jiang Man demanded two hundred thousand Spiritual Sources and a Spirit Sword worth one hundred thousand from her. For the other two, he demanded fifty thousand Spiritual Sources and a Spirit Sword each.

They could only accept the Spirit Stones with tears in their eyes. However, these Spirit Stones could also be refined into quite a lot of Spiritual Sources, which would definitely exceed five hundred thousand in value. Even with this trade, they weren’t taking a loss.

After handling the Spirit Stones, Jiang Man finally turned around. He looked at the old man with a serious expression and cupped his hands. "We accept this task and will definitely help see it through."

The old man remained silent for a long time, his mouth twitching, before he finally spoke. "Shall I explain what the matter is, then?"

Jiang Man nodded. "I’m all ears."

Shen Yao and the others found this a bit absurd. When helping someone, shouldn’t you first hear what the specific task was before deciding whether to help or not?

Only then did they learn what this so-called "help" entailed.

A short time ago, a little girl had accidentally wandered into the Forbidden Land. Due to various reasons, the number of people who could enter to search for her was extremely limited, and they couldn’t stay inside for too long either. This ultimately led to incomplete searches, making it impossible to confirm the little girl’s safety. Now, she was completely unaccounted for.

They hoped Jiang Man and his group could help find her—they needed to see her alive, or see her corpse if she was dead.

Jiang Man nodded, his expression serious. "If this is true, I will definitely give it my all."

Taking people’s money meant solving their problems. Naturally, he couldn’t disappoint his Gold Master.

Elder Chu raised his hand and beckoned behind him. "This is Qiaoyue."

The young woman behind him stepped forward. She wore plain clothes, and her long hair was tied up in a simple bun. Her skin wasn’t as fair as other people’s, but her facial features were delicate.

She looked at Jiang Man, her eyes slightly red, and spoke with deep gratitude. "I am Qiao Yu’s older sister. I will go in with you. If you can find Qiao Yu, I am willing to serve you faithfully for the rest of my life to repay you."

Jiang Man immediately held up a hand in a stopping gesture. "There’s no need for lifelong servitude. I’ve already accepted the Spirit Stones, so whether you repay me or not, I will get the job done."

Elder Chu chimed in from the side. "Qiaoyue is able to enter the Forbidden Land, so she can guide the way for you and warn you of any dangers. She should be of some help to you Immortals."

As he spoke, Elder Chu bowed respectfully. "We are relying entirely on the Immortals."
