Chapter 1345: Chapter 1345: Reward That Kid with a Meal

"Teacher Liu, how... how do we rescue him?" Xu Yino asked softly.

"How did this concrete dry so quickly? It’s only been a short time, and it’s already solidified into a lump."

Liu Banxia touched the concrete, his brow furrowing into a big knot.

When illuminated with a flashlight, it wasn’t obvious and seemed just like a lump of concrete. Only after touching it did he realize that the concrete had already dried.

He wasn’t very knowledgeable in this area, but he felt it was odd for concrete to solidify so quickly.

"This is a bit troublesome. Quickly find a pickup or a truck; we’ll need to take him away with the whole lump. Glucose, does anyone have glucose with them? Quickly let him drink some." Liu Banxia shouted.

"I have some here."

At that moment, a doctor shouted and ran to the car with glucose, leaning in to provide the patient with some glucose.

"Contact the command. With our strength, it’s hard to move the vehicle, and we need to get him out from here. Fortunately, the concrete hasn’t blocked his mouth or nose; otherwise, there’d be no chance to save him," Qiu Wei said.

"Send to your hospital?" Liu Banxia asked.

"Not likely, we’ve received quite a few patients today," Qiu Wei said.

"Alright, then send him to our emergency center, leave the scene to me," Liu Banxia nodded.

This was to clarify for a seamless treatment from start to finish, avoiding complications during handover.

The emergency command center was startled upon hearing about such a special patient. Such a heavy mixer truck wasn’t easy to move, and they could only quickly dispatch a crane.

"How are you feeling? How did you get stuck here?"

Seeing the patient had regained some spirit after the glucose, Liu Banxia quickly asked.

"I fell down from the slope, and my leg got caught in this pit. I didn’t want to get stuck here, and then the concrete kept accumulating. My body started to hurt, and then I passed out," the patient weakly said.

"Don’t worry, we’ve found you, and we’ll figure out how to get you out. Drink some more glucose, you need to replenish your fluids," Liu Banxia said.

The patient nodded with difficulty, his breathing becoming more labored, as the contraction of the concrete squeezed his lungs.

"Don’t panic, control your breathing rate, take small breaths. Someone’s already gone for the oxygen, and will hook you up shortly," Liu Banxia reassured.

"It’s hard to breathe, can’t catch my breath," the patient struggled to say.

"Don’t speak for now, just wait for us to rescue you. Rest assured, with so many people here, we’ll soon move the vehicle and get you to the hospital," Liu Banxia could only comfort him again.

This patient was relatively lucky because the concrete hadn’t buried him up to the neck. If it had, there’s no saying whether he could be saved.

But his current condition wasn’t good; he was barely breathing and very tense, with his breathing rate gradually increasing.

"Teacher Liu, the oxygen is here, and the crane is arriving soon," Liu Yiqing’s voice came through.

"Alright, provide the oxygen first. Xu Yino, inform President Qi about this special patient. Have him prepare some vinegar to alleviate the chemical burns from the concrete on his skin when he gets to the hospital," Liu Banxia said.

Qiu Wei nodded silently, acknowledging Liu Banxia’s effective on-scene management. Every command was crucial and executed in an orderly manner.

Providing the patient with oxygen helped alleviate his respiratory distress and slightly eased his tension. The concrete surely caused significant chemical burns on his skin, being alkaline in nature; vinegar could help neutralize it.

Liu Banxia glanced over and called Qiaoqiao. With this patient, there was no hope of going home tonight.

They had done all they could for now, leaving the rest to the firefighters.

With the crane’s assistance, the mixer truck was easily moved aside. Using tools to dig around the concrete block, once they saw the patient’s actual condition, Liu Banxia frowned.

The patient’s hand was also exposed, or rather the edge of it was. It was this hand supporting him that prevented his whole body from sinking into the concrete.

However, the hand didn’t look good, showing a bluish-purple color, hinting he might already have some rhabdomyolysis.

Rhabdomyolysis doesn’t just occur in the lower limbs; it’s very possible in the upper limbs too. But for this patient, the only option was to transfer him to the hospital as soon as possible.

With ropes, firefighters secured the concrete block and signaled the crane operator.

As the winch pulled, the entire concrete block was lifted and then steadily placed on a dispatched pickup truck.

"Please lead the way with a police car; the patient’s rescue window is already significantly reduced," Liu Banxia went to the on-site commander and said.

"Okay, sending to the Second Hospital’s emergency center, right?" the on-site commander asked.

"Yes, I’ll go find my car. Li Hao, Huang Bo, you two follow in the truck compartment."

Liu Banxia threw down a sentence and ran back.

"Teacher Liu, the road has been cleared, we can take a car over." Xu Yino hurriedly shouted.

Liu Banxia quickly stopped in his tracks.

That’s true, now that the road is passable, running is not faster than driving.

"Teacher Liu, do you think the patient can be rescued? Is it possible to just smash open directly?" Xu Yino asked.

"Not too fast, it has to be done gradually." Liu Banxia frowned and said.

"If we smash it open all at once, it could not only damage his body, but the internal systems’ circulation would accelerate, causing a large amount of toxins and possibly exacerbating his rhabdomyolysis."

"What should we do then? Only smash it open gradually? But can the patient hold on for that long?" Liu Yiqing asked worriedly.

"He has to hold on. We’ll find a way once we reach the emergency center. Step on it, my car is just ahead." Liu Banxia said.

The driver quickly parked, and Liu Banxia ran back to his car, following the convoy to the emergency center.

He was really anxious inside.

The TV often shows someone buried in dirt with just their head exposed, and that person still shouting energetically—it’s all nonsense.

The patient has been trapped in concrete for three or four hours, and just rescuing him took over forty minutes. From here to the second hospital takes almost an hour.

When added together, it’s almost five or six hours of being trapped.

This duration poses significant harm to the patient. Especially the pressure on the patient’s chest and abdomen as the concrete shrinks, which causes more damage.

We don’t know if the patient has any other injuries. The patient had expressed feeling pain, which might indicate fractures.

Thinking of this, he promptly reported the situation he understood to Qi Wentai. Now it’s truly a matter of saving every second, as the rescue window for the patient isn’t large.

Arriving at the emergency center, they encountered a new challenge.

Transporting such a large block of concrete inside wasn’t easy. The firefighters accompanying them had to use a saw to cut away "scrap material" first.

Even during the cutting, utmost caution was required; no one knew what posture the patient had under the concrete.

"All the leaders are here, just in time. The situation of this patient requires everyone’s collective effort." Seeing Chen Zhenxing leading the hospital’s department directors was a relief for Liu Banxia.

"What’s your idea?" Chen Zhenxing asked.

"My idea? Start by tapping externally slowly. Aim to free the limbs first, to relieve the patient’s internal circulation. If the patient has rhabdomyolysis, we can administer appropriate treatment."

"Meanwhile, we need to supplement electrolytes and adjust the body’s acidosis. Attention must be paid when opening the chest and abdominal concrete—it requires immediate emergency measures."

Chen Zhenxing nodded, "Follow Liu Banxia’s method for treatment. Now let’s pour vinegar into the space. That’s what we’ve agreed on. Chief Director Li, you’ll handle the cardiopulmonary issues later."

Li Mingwu nodded, "Alright, I was worried they might smash it open on-site; that would truly leave the patient beyond rescue."

The firefighters were trying to reduce the concrete’s volume while gently tapping the concrete on the patient with iron rods.

The emergency center staff were busy too, stuffing cotton balls into the patient’s nasal passage, and pouring bottle after bottle of vinegar into the gap by the shoulder.

"Very good, the on-site handling is excellent." Chen Xuehai approached Liu Banxia.

Liu Banxia grinned, "Keep an eye here for a while; it’ll take at least half an hour more to cut outside. I’m going to grab a bite."

"Go ahead, the leaders have been discussing for quite some time, and they all align with your approach." Chen Xuehai said.

"The most critical moment hasn’t come yet. Separating him from the concrete is the most dangerous. That patient from on-site surgery is fine and sent to ICU."

Liu Banxia nodded and quickly ran to the canteen. But just after he ran inside, he came out again.

"Leaders, be careful with the fluid supplementation; don’t give too much. We don’t know if he can urinate smoothly now, and if not, it might damage the bladder."

After saying that, Liu Banxia turned and ran back inside.

Chen Zhenxing paused, then shook his head, "Despite being a group, we haven’t considered things as thoroughly as he did. Did anyone think about the patient’s bladder issues?"

"Chief Director, looks like we owe the kid a hearty meal; otherwise, it might have led to a significant mistake. We considered electrolyte balance, acidosis, and other issues, but not the bladder." Li Mingwu said.

"This kid... Xu Yino, help me inform the canteen to let the kid order whatever he wants." Chen Zhenxing shouted.

Xu Yino smiled and nodded, definitely putting that in order.
