The Entire Mountain Is My Hunting Ground
Chapter 607: Youcai Saves a Dog, Black Tiger Ran Away
Dog lovers can’t stand to see a dog die or get hurt, even if it isn’t one of their own hounds.
Hearing the Yellow Dog’s intermittent wails, Zhao Youcai hurried over to it. Seeing someone approach, the Yellow Dog struggled, finding it difficult to even lift its head.
It could only force its eyelids open and roll its eyes upward, blinking as it looked at Zhao Youcai.
Seeing the newcomer, the Yellow Dog seemed to forget its pain. It stopped wailing and simply opened its mouth wide, panting heavily.
Arriving before the Yellow Dog, Zhao Youcai crouched down for a look and couldn’t help but sigh again. ‘The dog’s spine is broken. There’s no fixing this. It can’t be saved.’
Even if he took it back and cared for it meticulously, it would live for five days at most.
And every minute, every second of those five days would be nothing but pain and agony for the dog.
“Sigh…” Zhao Youcai shook his head repeatedly. Just then, Wang Qiang came over, wanting to say something, but seeing the Yellow Dog’s condition, he first asked Zhao Youcai, “Brother-in-law, what do we do?”
A sorrowful look on his face, Zhao Youcai reached out and stroked the Yellow Dog’s chest. The dog closed its eyes, and pained groans escaped its mouth and nose.
Zhao Youcai took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly. He drew the Invasion Blade from his back, holding it in a reverse grip like a dagger.
“Brother-in-law,” Wang Qiang called out from the side, but he didn’t know what to say next.
Hearing Wang Qiang call his name, Zhao Youcai remained crouched before the Yellow Dog like a statue, not responding.
Then, Zhao Youcai slowly closed his eyes. He gently held the dog’s head down with his left hand, and with a flick of his right wrist, plunged the Invasion Blade deep into the Yellow Dog’s neck.
PFFT!
A spray of fresh blood erupted. The Yellow Dog’s hind legs kicked out once, and the pained sounds from its mouth ceased.
Zhao Youcai pulled the blade free and drew back his hand. He glanced at the Yellow Dog before him, then used the knife—still in a reverse grip—to prop himself up as he slowly stood, his left hand on his knee for support.
Zhao Youcai sheathed his Invasion Blade and called out to Wang Qiang in a low voice, “Qiangzi.”
“Yeah, Brother-in-law.”
Zhao Youcai said, “Let’s see about burying these dogs.”
“Brother-in-law, don’t bury them yet,” Wang Qiang said. “Come take a look. This one’s still alive.”
“Huh? Where?” Zhao Youcai’s spirits lifted at the news. He followed Wang Qiang over to a black dog whose intestines had been gored out by a wild boar.
The black dog’s intestines were dangling out, trailing on the ground. Zhao Youcai examined them closely and was relieved to see they weren’t severed. “This one can be saved!” he exclaimed.
“Yeah!” Wang Qiang nodded with a smile. Although he didn’t hunt with hounds, he didn’t like to see them die either.
But the next second, Zhao Youcai said, “Quick, Qiangzi, grab the canteen.”
“Huh?” Wang Qiang was taken aback, but Zhao Youcai explained, “To wash the dog’s intestines. You have to wash them before you can stuff them back in. Don’t you know that?”
“There’s no water left.” Wang Qiang shook the military-style canteen hanging on his chest. “I had something salty for breakfast and drank it all.”
Zhao Youcai shot Wang Qiang a look. “You drank all the water, so… you got any piss?”
“Piss?” Hearing this, Wang Qiang quickly asked, “Brother-in-law, can you really wash it with piss?”
“Why not?” Zhao Youcai said irritably. “In the winter, when you’re up in the mountains without water and a dog gets its guts gored out, what else do you use? You wash them clean, stuff them back in, and deal with it properly when you get back.”
At this point, Zhao Youcai pressed him, “Enough with the useless chatter. Can you piss or not?”
“Brother-in-law, I already pissed up there earlier, didn’t I?”
Hearing this, Zhao Youcai snorted, pursed his lips, and shot Wang Qiang a sharp glare. Then he said, “Fine. You hold the dog’s intestines. I’ll piss, you wash.”
“Brother-in-law!” Wang Qiang was aghast. “But won’t you just spray it all over me?”
“Get out of here.” Zhao Youcai irritably pushed Wang Qiang away. “I don’t need you. I’ll wash them myself.”
“Huh?” Wang Qiang froze for a second, then watched as Zhao Youcai unbuckled his pants and chuckled. “Brother-in-law, you’re gonna piss and wash at the same time? Are your arms that long?”
Zhao Youcai gave Wang Qiang a sidelong glance, pushed his pants down, and squatted in front of the black dog.
Seeing this, Wang Qiang couldn’t help but laugh out loud, but then he heard Zhao Youcai say, “If you dare tell anyone about what happened today, I’ll drag you into the mountains and feed you to a Black Bear.”
“Ahem…” Wang Qiang cleared his throat. “I won’t, Brother-in-law. I won’t tell a soul.”
You had to hand it to him, Zhao Youcai really did care about the dogs. He squatted in front of the black dog, pissing and washing at the same time, cleaning its intestines before stuffing them back in, section by section.
When he was done, Zhao Youcai stood up, holding his hands halfway up in the air.
Wang Qiang came forward and helped Zhao Youcai pull up and fasten his pants. No matter how much they bickered or joked around, he truly admired his brother-in-law.
Especially what he had just done for the dog—not many people could do that.
Once his pants were fastened, Zhao Youcai hitched up his right hip and said to Wang Qiang, “There’s a bandage in this pocket. Get it out for me.”
“You got it!” Wang Qiang replied, pulling a roll of bandages from Zhao Youcai’s pocket.
This wasn’t something provided by the Forest Farm’s security department. Zhao Youcai had swiped it from Zhao Jun’s room this morning, just in case. He never thought it would actually come in handy here.
When Wang Qiang offered him the bandage, Zhao Youcai didn’t take it. First, he grabbed a couple handfuls of dirt and scrubbed his hands. Then he tore up two handfuls of green grass, crushed them fiercely in his palms until his hands were covered in green juice, and then scrubbed them with dirt again.
Only after washing his hands in this crude fashion did Zhao Youcai take the bandage and begin to wrap the black dog’s wound. At the same time, he told Wang Qiang to drag all five dogs over to the base of a Pine Tree.
He was in a hurry to save the black dog now, so he definitely didn’t have time to bury the other four.
