The Evil Bastard of Murim

Chapter 42 - 41: Arrival at Mount Hua (16)

Up until now, whenever Wolryung was in this kind of situation, he would always make up any shameless excuse he could just to get what he wanted. Uh... Well, the only thing he wants is money.

Anyway, the fact was that, to get money in the name of compensation, Wolryung would make up anything he wanted. And even if that reason was the most ridiculous one, it didn’t matter. If he said it then it was the most logical thing in the world even if it wasn’t. Yeah, that was how it was. Jin Ho had been there the whole time since Wolryung’s personality changed. And he saw all of it with his own eyes, didn’t he? So, from those experiences alone, he could just tell that even this time Wolryung would make some lame excuse and present it like the most logical thing in the world.

Indeed. That was how it was supposed to be. But... What was this?

“You bastards just wasted a day’s worth of our time! And you think you did nothing wrong to me?!”

What was this young master of his saying?

“We were already late as it was. And now because of some illiterate thug we are going to be even more late!”

Why was he saying something so true and logical?

No matter how Jin Ho thought about it, it couldn’t be right, right? How could that be? Wolryung, saying true and logical words? Not a chance. Jin Ho would believe it if someone said that lord Yama spared someone’s life. However, logical words coming out from Wolryung’s mouth was something truly impossible. Jin Ho could never believe that. But it was happening right in front of his eyes. And he was just staring with a blank face at the unexpected scenery unfolding before him.

Even the bandits looked like they were at a loss for words upon hearing those words. However, the atmosphere changed in an instant when a voice could be heard, coming from behind.

“But the night wasn’t that far off though. Even if we didn’t clash with them, they would have to stay in this mountain for a night. So, we are not really responsible for the delay in time, right?”

At those brutally honest words, every head turned toward that direction. Everyone blinked once, their faces stunned in bewilderment.

Did he really just say those words? Does he want to die or something? Why would he open his mouth with true words?

Don’t you know you’d be killed the moment you start spouting truth?

After a moment of silence a very familiar voice broke it.

“Who is this bastard now?”

“...”

Everyone looked at Wolryung. While Cho Heon answered uncomfortably.

“H-He just joined us recently. So...”

“Beat him up.”

“...?”

At that command, the bandit who just blurted out the truth, Hak San, looked flustered. On the other hand, Cho Heon tried to cover him up.

“U-Uh, please spare him, young warrior. He doesn’t know when to...”

“Are you gonna beat him or not?” Wolryung pointed at Jin Ho as he continued. “If you don’t then I’ll just command this young man here to beat all of you except for him.”

!!!

In the blink of an eye, the air around the shabby hut changed as all the bandits looked at Hak San with icy gazes as though they had years of grudge against him. Even Cho Heon gave him a gaze of resentment.

“...”

Unable to bear the cold aura around him, Hak San instinctively took two steps backward as he smiled awkwardly.

“Ah, guys... let’s talk first then...”

Thud!

Thud... Thud!

*

The world was truly cruel.

Not long ago, his comrades were so good to him. They cared about him and would even fight someone to the death if they threatened him. But now, just because of one bastard his comrades were beating him to a pulp as if he was their lifelong enemy. What did he do to deserve this kind of treatment? He only said something that was the truth. If anything, they should’ve praised him.

The world has really become unfair.

“...”

After taking the beating from everyone, Hak San sat quietly in a corner with torn clothes and bruises all over his body. His face was so swollen that one couldn’t say what expression he was giving right now.

How cruel. Weren’t they comrades? Why beat him up like that?

Well, it was understandable. Since yesterday they were all very frustrated because of Wolryung. It was to the extent that one could destroy the whole world just from the madness. However, since they were very weak they couldn’t do anything but endure. And now that they found a way to vent that anger, they let it all out, ignoring the fact that the one they were venting their anger on was their own comrade.

‘I’ll make you all pay, you traitorous bastards!’

Hak San glared at everyone with eyes filled with fire.

“So, how much money do you guys have?”

Wolryung, now sitting on the chair again, continued the previous matter.

“Uh, sorry, young warrior. But we don’t have any money.”

“...What?”

At the reply of Cho Heon, Wolryung’s eyes went wide.

“Don’t... have any... money...?”
