The Evil God Summoned by the Saintess

Chapter 513 - 511: Release the Prisoners, Make Big Headlines

  • Next Chapter

The Essence of the Dark Dream is a special potion made by the Polar Blood Alliance using Alina’s blood during the Mage League, designed to induce sleep in mages and ineffective on ordinary people.

Most of the camp’s inhabitants are mages, with only a few ordinary soldiers.

The ordinary soldiers are unaffected; putting the mages to sleep will achieve the goal.

The Essence of the Dark Dream was quietly released, quickly infiltrating the camp.

The mages here have much lower resistance than the participants of the Mage League, and soon a group of mages yawned uncontrollably and quickly raced to sleep, leaving the ordinary soldiers to stand guard.

This situation left all the ordinary guards bewildered.

They felt something was off but, not understanding the mages’ methods and lacking the authority to inquire about their condition,

had to take over the duty of night watch.

Fortunately, the night watch mostly consisted of ordinary people, with only a few mages assisting.

Where there are people, hierarchical differences and discrimination exist.

This small camp is no exception; high-tier mages command lower-tier mages, and lower-tier mages command ordinary soldiers.

Night watch is basically handled by ordinary people, who are accustomed to it.

After scanning with Spiritual Power, Hilia confirmed all mages, including those arrested, were asleep before she quietly entered.

The array did not provide any warning; trying to see her for ordinary people would be less likely than seeing a pig queue up and fall into water.

Smoothly she arrived at the temporary cell for the troublesome mages, Hilia unlocked the array’s restrictions and entered, to find a heap of mercenaries sprawled and snoring.

The troublemakers are mostly mercenaries; only the irritable ones would confront the border guards. The mages involved in production rarely do so and have no need to cross boundaries.

Hilia glanced around and took out the antidote.

Hilia had also retained both the Essence of the Dark Dream and the sleep-removal potion, thinking they might be useful, and carried them all with her after acquiring the Space Ring.

The Space Ring isn’t large, but piled with various items, it can still hold quite a lot.

Besides a few sets of spare clothes, Hilia had no other possessions, and the Space Ring was full of materials and scrolls, potions.

The antidote, wrapped by the Mage’s Hand, was delivered into the mouths of all the slumbering mages.

Moments later, Hilia clapped suddenly, waking them up.

The group got up bewilderedly, not knowing what had happened.

Hilia said, "I am here to rescue you; the cell is unlocked, you can leave now. The array is dismantled, outside only ordinary soldiers who can’t stop you. Go ahead, or stay if you prefer."

"And by the way, refrain from hurting ordinary people when you leave."

The group looked at each other.

Soon, the first person stepped out of the cell, successfully escaping.

The remaining ones exchanged glances and quickly departed.

The mercenaries who can clash with border guards are not afraid of such situations and won’t hesitate or be scared to leave.

The appearance of several strangers immediately caused the ordinary guards to shout in alarm.

However, it was to no avail.

They posed no threat to the mercenaries, and even if they had one-time magic attack means, they dared not use them, merely hurriedly trying to wake the sleeping mages.

But under the Essence of the Dark Dream, unless a high-tier mage intervenes, how could a group of ordinary people possibly awaken them?

Hilia used Healing Skill to treat the mercenary who stood up for her earlier.

Those people bounced back lively, thanked Hilia while inquiring, "Does Your Excellency have any relation to the girl from before?"

Hilia gave a light chuckle, "Just displeased with the guards’ actions, nothing more."

The mercenaries nodded and quickly left.

The ordinary soldiers watched the mercenaries leave, not daring to obstruct.

Those who dared to stop them were lying there, fate unknown.

Even without magic puppets, mages overpower ordinary men.

And those undisturbed mages among the guards sleeping inside the camp only further frightened them, urging to contact other camp locations.

Yet, by the time other squads arrived for support, the mercenaries had long since vanished without a trace.

The patrol team captain who came over listened to the soldiers’ report, saw their comrades unresponsive, frowned, finding the matter not simple.

"Report to Fanar City immediately, let them decide!"

...

The next day.

The investigation team from Fanar City arrived at the camp.

By then, the effects of the Essence of the Dark Dream had long faded, and everyone was awake.

No matter how the investigation team questioned, they were clueless, unaware of what occurred.

"No idea, I was just sleeping, woke up and saw you all."

"I was patrolling, suddenly felt sleepy, then went to sleep; upon waking, found out prisoners had escaped."

"Can anyone tell me what exactly happened?"

The investigation team members exchanged glances, with heavy expressions.

The incident was too bizarre, they had no leads.

They were unaware of the sleep incident during a past Mage League, and even if they knew, too much time had passed to make any connection.

People in a village falling asleep couldn’t possibly relate to Olympic athletes overseas who once fell asleep and sense something amiss.

Their level had not reached such extent.

So they could only return with completely clueless findings and report to the City Lord of Fanar City.

The City Lord, equally puzzled, thought over it and made a judgment—

"It must be the Tower of Descent behind this, keep an eye out; if this situation happens again, search nearby areas for their hideout."

...

"Step Three, rescue the mercenaries imprisoned elsewhere."

Hilia murmured, watching as the conflict below gradually ceased, the rebellious mage teams all captured. She quietly followed the opposition into the camp.

It was noon now; if everyone fell asleep, the nature of the incident would be different from nighttime slumber.

But this was the effect Hilia sought.

Thus, in broad daylight, numerous mages yawned, with some finding beds to sleep upon contact, others simply laying on roadside lawns to nap.

The events at another camp hadn’t yet arrived here; remaining ordinary soldiers felt something off but didn’t report it immediately.

But soon they had no choice but to report.

Because those imprisoned mercenaries suddenly burst out, rushed to the storage room, collected their belongings, and fled.

Whether their hands stayed clean or not, is unknown.

As in the previous camp, these soldiers were bewildered, dared not act, choosing to report quickly.

The same incident happened at the second camp; news swiftly reached Fanar City.

The City Lord of Fanar City slammed the desk.

"It absolutely is the Tower of Descent causing trouble! Other camps, strengthen your vigilance immediately! We are heading out for support!"
