The Evolution of the Weakest Ghoul
Chapter 112: The Quiet City
Chapter 112: Chapter 112: The Quiet City
Looking over the five vampires, Ronan’s mind worked as everything seemed to come into place. If he wanted to preserve their adventurer aliases, he could only stage a play but first, he had to time it to when Mayor and the rest returned.
Ronan narrowed his eyes, and the struggling vampires paused. Then, their eyes went blank as they stood up and followed Ronan as he arrived at the city.
Hesa and Yen were still on their knees, the same as everyone else. There was this silence that hung in the air, and Ronan....
He just wanted this silence as he sat and looked at the ghost town.
It was eerie, yet it seemed peaceful. His thoughts flowed better, his mind clearer, and then he realized more and more that this alias was needed to survive in the Human Realm.
And now, with him being a Vampire Ancestor, he seemed to have grown so strong.
Yes, he was at Five-Star Sovereign Realm, but his true strength was still unknown.
Ronan sat like this until it was the next day, as he finally looked at Yen and Hesa, and the control broke off.
The instant it did, the two collapsed onto the ground. They could feel a stabbing pain in their heads as it throbbed for a while before slowly dying down, as the two stood up to see Ronan calmly looking at them.
"What... happened?" Hesa muttered while Yen still felt dizzy.
The two women looked at Ronan. He seemed familiar, yes, but at the same time, very different.
There was something else about him, something that showed he was not just the same old Ronan but had become more.
Yen happened to look behind her, and what she saw caused her to have goosebumps.
"It is like this..." Ronan started as he explained to the two women, as the scenes of last night filled their minds—the hunger, the way they killed humans, the huge amount of blood.
They really did clear out a whole city...
No wonder it had this eerie silence that seemed to bite directly into one’s soul.
"So, will you help? We do need to protect our identity," Ronan spoke as Hesa narrowed her eyes.
"Do you regret it?" Hesa asked, catching both Ronan and Yen off guard.
"Regret... what?" Ronan couldn’t help but ask.
"Killing them, this entire city... kids and the elderly... tens of thousands of them," Hesa asked as Ronan replied.
"No... I don’t," Ronan spoke as Hesa closed her eyes.
"This is mass slaughtering, and you are telling me you didn’t even feel remorseful? Regret for killing tens of thousands of lives. Are they worth nothing to you?" Hesa asked as Ronan frowned.
This was starting to get annoying, so he stood up, his eyes cold.
He didn’t care at this moment if he was trying to get closer to Hesa or they were a trio.
"Yes, I don’t care. Compared to my goal, tens of thousands of lives are worth nothing. This is just a glimpse of how far I would go to get what I want. You seem to have a picture of a justice-filled world, but no, only those with power get to decide what is good or bad. This, to you, is bad. It is killing tens of thousands of lives and destroying a city."
"To me, this is a necessary stepping stone to get what I want. Look at me, I am at the fifth star of the Sovereign Realm because of the mass killing, so yeah, I would do this over again if I had the chance. I am an undead. Do you expect me not to kill humans? To be some hero?"
"And you, when will you wake up? When will both of you wake up?"
Ronan paused as he looked at Yen, whose head was lowered.
"Your former lives are gone, and you are undead right now. Unless you want to die eventually, you better start thinking like an undead. Hesa... stop with your bullshit, please. You are my Blood Servant, same as Yen. You obey me, not the other way around."
"If you want to leave right here, right now, want some sort of freedom and do things your own way, then fine. I give it to you. You can leave, and from today, we won’t know each other. Then you can do what you want, and if you like, spare the lives of humans who would try to kill you in a heartbeat once they know what you are "
"You turned me into this... You took away my normal life," Hesa retorted.
"Oh, so you prefer dying to being an undead?" Ronan asked.
"Yes, I do... I wished I had died in that cave, but you ruined everything. I was going to become someone in that city," Hesa spoke as her emotions welled up, tears threatening to fall.
"I was nobody... a cast-aside orphan before Jani brought me into the military. I could see how far she climbed... I wanted, at the very least, to make her proud, and then find my bastard parents and family that left me alone. But now... now you turned my life into this..." Hesa sobbed.
Ronan stood up as he walked to the front of Hesa, whose body trembled as she wept.
"You were somebody. You always were... but... you are naive and think the world is all good and kind. You never know who or what Jani is..."
Ronan clenched his fist as he brought it to Hesa’s chest, where her heart was.
"If you feel the strength you were granted, that this trait that gave you a higher ceiling than what you would have had normally is a curse and something you can’t live with, then just say the word."
"Right here... right now... I will end your misery and set you free," Ronan spoke, his voice cold, as Hesa felt a chill run down her spine. Her sobs stopped abruptly as she looked at Ronan, who looked at her.
Yen was stunned at the side, but she couldn’t say anything. This was between Hesa and Ronan.
"I..."
"He is here. Get ready," Ronan spoke as he turned around and passed the necklace to the two as he wore his disguise and was back as Basha.
Meanwhile, Hesa looked at the necklace, her heart feeling suffocated as her eyes widened in horror. She almost said she wanted to die.
Was she stupid? If not for the arrival of the Mayor, would she have made such a stupid mistake? And... she looked up to see the back of Ronan.
Would he have killed me?
Sigh...
"You are stupid, Hesa..." Ronan muttered.
Hesa was really about to say he should kill her? If he hadn’t done that, then he wouldn’t be able to go back on his words, and she would be dead.
How annoying, but thankfully, the Mayor was really coming. He could already feel his aura and the aura of the remaining experts as a large army returned home after years of war.
Only... would there be a "home" to return to?
