The Exiled Alpha's Human Male Mate.[BL]
Chapter 114: Will You Be My Boyfriend?
"So you’re willing for the three of us to be together?" Bryce asked instead of answering or giving Vincent the permission he was asking for.
The request had come so suddenly that Bryce felt the need to comprehend what Vincent was actually requesting before responding to it.
There was no doubt in his mind that, after everything that had happened, he wanted to restore their bond.
The difference was that Vincent’s sudden request seemed to have been driven by fright, and it was sudden.
Vincent didn’t hesitate this time.
"Yes," he answered, his voice low but certain.
Relief washed over Bryce so quickly that he almost felt his body loosen with it.
For all the uncertainty that had surrounded them, for all the conversations that had left him wondering whether Vincent would ever accept what he wanted, that single word was enough to settle something inside him.
But before he could even breathe properly, Vincent added, "So, will you be my boyfriend?"
Bryce’s eyes widened.
The question caught Bryce completely off guard.
He could not understand why it had never occurred to him that they needed to ask each other that- to make their relationship official.
Perhaps they had already gone so far with each other that, somewhere along the way, he had unconsciously assumed they were already together.
Vincent, on the other hand, seemed to mistake Bryce’s hesitation for uncertainty over how he had phrased the question and immediately corrected himself, somehow leaving Bryce even more stunned.
"I mean, will you be our boyfriend? I have no doubt that Dave would have asked the same thing if he were here, or perhaps you two were still together since he said there was no real breakup between the two of you. Or should we call him on the phone for him to speak for himself? Or do you want me to send Jim to pick him up? Or should we go home?"
The questions came one after another, leaving Bryce staring at him.
At this point, Vincent sounded almost... Bryce could not even find the right word for it.
Panicked, perhaps, but not exactly.
Vincent was eager, almost restless, as though now that he had finally agreed to the relationship, he wanted to settle everything at once before anything could change his mind.
Maybe Vincent was still struggling to accept it. Maybe, because of Bryce, he wanted to involve Dave as much as possible, ensuring Bryce had no reason to doubt that he genuinely wanted Dave around.
Bryce could not tell what was truly behind Vincent’s behavior.
"You said you need time to adjust, so just relax and take your time. You don’t have to force yourself to push things further just because..."
"I’m not forcing anything," Vincent interrupted. "I just want us to make it official already. It’s almost like I’ve been waiting my whole life to finally have the right to call you mine."
He moved closer as he spoke, his eagerness unmistakable in the way he looked at Bryce.
’Works well for me,’ Bryce thought.
"Should we ask him to come, then?" Vincent asked, almost as though he had heard Bryce’s thoughts.
"I mentioned going back home now by mistake," Vincent continued before Bryce could answer. "I realized that I have a lot to do, well, for the sake of our baby, and you. I shouldn’t be playing around with work. You must have a good life. So I’ll stick around at work a little more. Also, I was hoping that since you’re here, you could check out the problem that Adam is having with his group, but if you’re tired or just not feeling like it now, it’s okay. You can..."
"I will," Bryce cut him off.
Vincent was going far too soft on him for Bryce’s liking.
"Great," Vincent murmured. Then, almost immediately, he returned to the matter that seemed to have taken over his mind. "Should we now ask Dave to come instead?"
"Okay," Bryce answered. "Although, I heard people here talking about the three of us, wondering if it was just the two of us or the three of us. It’s clear that they’re already piecing things together. Will you be okay with that?"
"Will you?" Vincent replied, turning the question back on him.
"Honestly, for me, I don’t care. I literally don’t know those people, and their opinions don’t matter to me. Even if I knew them, I still wouldn’t care. I only want to focus on what makes me happy rather than what people think should be right and what should be wrong."
For the first time, Bryce meant every word.
He had spent so much time worrying about how things would look, about what Vincent would think, about what Dave would think, and about whether the relationship he wanted could actually exist without becoming something complicated.
Now, Vincent and Dave had accepted it. That was what mattered to him. It was what he had been hoping for.
"Exactly," Vincent answered. "We don’t have anyone governing our lives, so they can talk and do whatever they want."
Vincent’s answer only made Bryce feel more confident in his own resolve. There was something reassuring about hearing him say it so plainly.
"Then call him," Bryce said.
Vincent took out his phone without hesitation and dialed Dave’s number.
By now, Bryce could already tell that Vincent had no idea that Dave felt something toward him.
And, for the moment, Bryce thought it was better that way. Telling Vincent now would only overwhelm him further.
He was already overwhelmed by everything that had happened, by finally accepting the relationship, by the realization that Bryce could choose another mate, and by his sudden determination to make the three of them official.
If Vincent learned that Dave might also be developing feelings for him, it could make everything far harder to process.
Perhaps once he had relaxed and eased himself into everything that was happening, they could talk about it.
Bryce knew that Vincent was just as good at denial as he was.
He was admitting that he cared about Dave, that he felt sorry for him, that he wanted to be there for him and become someone Dave could rely on. He had even compared Dave to his younger brother because of how vulnerable he had seemed.
That had to mean something.
Or perhaps it didn’t.
Something seemed to have clicked between them during that night they had spent in the same house, helping each other, and Bryce only hoped that whatever that was- it would actually develop into something great.
