Chapter 393: Lord and Calamity
Chapter 393: Lord and Calamity
"It all feels like a dream. We might actually be trapped inside some kind of illusion."
Elin stopped a passing female resident and cautiously asked,
"Are you a real person? If you’re being coerced, blink twice."
"Idiot."
The woman rolled her eyes and walked away.
"You’re pretty, but unfortunately you’re an airhead."
"Why did she insult us?"
Hwaily pouted indignantly.
"Still suspicious."
Elin rubbed her smooth chin thoughtfully.
"Maybe the answer lies in the other city. There has to be some monster hidden there. Nobles aren’t supposed to be good people."
"You mean Starnight City? I heard there aren’t many people living there right now. They’re tearing down buildings and constructing new ones everywhere."
"How do you know that?"
Elin looked up at her suspiciously.
"From the recruitment board! It’s over by City Hall. They need workers in Starnight City to lay bricks, farm, clean, and cook. You can earn as much as thirty or forty copper coins a day!"
Hwaily excitedly grabbed Elin’s arm and shook it back and forth.
"I was just about to tell you. Let’s go earn some money. Uh... I mean, let’s go investigate."
"Very well. That’s our only option."
After a moment of thought, Elin nodded.
"Just like the underground masquerade in Maple Leaf City, this place must have a filthy side hidden somewhere."
The two headed toward City Hall.
Quite a few villagers had gathered outside. Some were accepting work assignments, while others chatted enthusiastically.
"Does anyone have a child who’s almost an adult? Send them to apprentice as a blacksmith. The vertical furnace designed by our lord is being built."
"Did you hear? Those heavy plows and draft horses finished what twenty people would normally do in a single morning."
"Yeah, I heard our lord wants horses to plow the fields. But if the horses are doing the farming, what are we supposed to do?"
"It’s probably because our territory has too many horses. Keeping them idle is a waste. I heard public horse-drawn carriages will start operating today between here and Starnight City."
"That’s not all. They’re planning to keep expanding the roads until they connect every part of Nightfall Domain. For just one copper coin, you’ll be able to ride all the way to Turnip Village."
The crowd continued discussing excitedly.
"Public carriages?"
Hwaily stared in disbelief.
"They’re saying those sturdy stone roads will reach every corner of Nightfall Domain."
"That can’t be possible..."
Elin still found it hard to believe.
"Let’s visit Starnight City first."
The two set off on their "bricklaying investigation."
Meanwhile, Firomina lay quietly beside Phield’s desk like an oversized cat. Every now and then, she would lean closer, asking to be patted on the head.
"You’re so clingy."
Phield smiled fondly and gently stroked her head before taking out his notebook, hoping to teach her how to read.
"Mmm... Master... I like it."
After only a brief glance, Firomina became drowsy. Curling up in Phield’s arms, she promptly fell asleep.
Her Sunlight Pattern could not be maintained for very long. While in that state, her intelligence returned to a normal level, but she became cold and detached, refusing to speak with anyone. She showed no signs of rebellion, yet she rejected all communication.
Her Moonlight form, on the other hand, was the complete opposite. She behaved like an adorably clueless beauty who understood almost nothing.
"Don’t sleep all day, Little Moon. I have something I need your help with."
Phield lifted her up and gently shook her.
"Ah..."
Firomina gave him a mischievous look before opening her mouth wide and rolling her eyes upward.
"Not that kind of weird thing."
Phield immediately felt his body heat rise, but he quickly suppressed the distracting thoughts.
She might seem absentminded now, but if he crossed the line and deliberately took advantage of her, she would instantly revert to her Sunlight Pattern. Her other consciousness was fully aware of everything that happened.
That lesson had already been learned the hard way.
Phield shook his right hand.
Two days ago, he had accidentally touched her backside, and she had nearly broken his hand.
If he ever wanted Firomina to enter a defeated state, her other consciousness would first have to fall completely asleep.
"Wake up."
Phield pinched Firomina’s cheek and directly used his soul power to awaken her Sunlight Pattern.
Brilliant golden light burst forth.
Firomina’s expression instantly turned icy as she stood up indifferently.
"Why did you wake me?"
"And don’t touch me again. Otherwise, next time you won’t get away with just a minor injury."
"What kind of split personality is this? You’re the one who kept coming over to me."
Phield sighed helplessly.
"It was an accident. I’m not some kind of pervert."
"Hmph. The more times I awaken, the more the Moonlight form will recover normal reasoning, until it ultimately merges with my true will. When that day comes, she won’t tolerate your disrespect, nor will she try to please you."
Firomina folded her arms beneath her chest, perfectly accentuating her graceful figure. Her slender waist and fair stomach formed elegant curves.
"Besides, I don’t intend to waste my time here. Destroying the world is far more interesting."
"No thanks. Little Moon is much cuter. I don’t want her turning into someone so cold."
Phield frowned.
Every time Firomina activated her Sunlight Pattern, her Moonlight self learned more vocabulary.
If this continued, the Moonlight personality would eventually be erased by the other consciousness, leaving behind nothing but a completely emotionless calamity.
"That helpless state is nothing but weakness."
Firomina waved her hand impatiently, and the air erupted with a tearing screech.
"In my previous life, I never suffered this kind of backlash. I could kill as many people as I pleased."
"I certainly wouldn’t throw myself onto insignificant insects just to act cute. It’s disgusting."
"Don’t touch me."
"That’s a bit harsh."
Phield shrugged, clearly displeased.
"Don’t worry. I won’t touch you on purpose. I have no desire to get beaten up again."
"Stop acting as though you’re the victim. When I attack you, I suffer an even greater injury."
Firomina revealed the hand she had been hiding behind her back.
A small golden rune was engraved across her right hand, radiating a brilliant glow.
"A Divine Chosen cannot harm their lord. I have no idea who came up with such a rule. My right hand effectively received the full-force strike of a First Tier Divine Chosen."
"Then why did you attack me?"
"To make my position clear."
Firomina tossed back her waterfall-like hair.
"If you ever cross the line, I won’t hesitate to fight you to the end."
Once again, she wore that aloof expression, as though she stood above the mortal world.
Phield found it thoroughly irritating.
"Fine. I still prefer my Little Moon."
Pushing those thoughts aside, Phield became serious.
"In that case, let’s stop arguing. Go help dig a pond."
"Leave that sort of work to the other insects."
Firomina waved dismissively.
"If it’s slaughter or battle, then you may pray for my assistance."
"Move it."
Phield stood up and said firmly,
"Stop acting like you’re some kind of king. You’re not the only Calamity in this territory. Everyone else is fighting and helping build it. Even your Moonlight form at least knows how to be affectionate and provide some emotional support."
"The Moonlight form is also me," Firomina retorted.
"Wrong. Little Moon feels like my daughter."
He pointed at Firomina.
"As for you, my friend... I only want to have sex with you."
