The Extra Who Inherited Ragnarok

Chapter 168: The Shadow Of Unspoken

  • Next Chapter

The eyes opened beneath Noah’s shadow.

Two crimson circles stared upward from the darkness, blinking independently of him.

Noah stumbled backward.

His shadow did not move with him.

It remained on the fractured floor, stretched unnaturally wide, its edges trembling as though something beneath it was trying to crawl free.

Dead Zone stood nearby, Shadowfang lowered.

"That’s not me."

Noah swallowed. "I know."

The shadow’s surface rippled.

A hand emerged.

It was Noah’s hand, yet thinner, its fingers unnaturally long and its skin covered in faint golden cracks. It pressed against the floor, followed by another hand.

The ancient prisoner pulled violently against its chains.

"Do not let it fully emerge!"

The golden-black entity turned toward the abyss. "You sound afraid now."

"I remember what it leaves behind."

The shadow rose.

Not a body.

A silhouette.

It stood behind Noah, its head tilted at an impossible angle. Its outline resembled him, but its proportions were subtly wrong. The shoulders were too broad. The arms hung too low. Its face was featureless except for a single vertical golden slit.

Noah felt its presence inside his mind.

It was standing behind him.

And sitting beneath his thoughts.

You have been so difficult to reach, it whispered.

Noah forced himself to face it. "Who are you?"

The silhouette leaned closer.

You have asked the wrong question for a very long time.

Dead Zone raised Shadowfang and stepped between them.

The silhouette’s golden slit shifted toward him.

And you have worn his fear as armor.

Crimson energy burst from Dead Zone’s body.

He attacked.

Shadowfang passed through the silhouette without resistance, striking the floor and sending a wave of black energy through the realm.

The shadow remained untouched.

Dead Zone spun and struck again.

Nothing.

The silhouette lifted one finger.

Dead Zone’s body froze.

Noah felt the force clamp down on their shared connection. Dead Zone’s crimson aura flickered, and his knees buckled beneath an invisible weight.

"Let him go!" Noah shouted.

The silhouette turned toward him.

You still believe you can command what belongs to you.

Golden light surged through Noah’s body.

He pushed forward, forcing his consciousness against the pressure. Every step felt like walking through deep water, but he continued until he stood beside Dead Zone.

The silhouette watched him approach.

There. That is the part I remember.

Noah’s stomach tightened.

"What do you remember?"

The shadow’s head slowly rotated.

The first time you were afraid of becoming yourself.

A flash of memory struck him.

A dark room.

A younger Noah standing before a mirror.

His reflection smiling when he did not.

The image vanished before he could understand it.

Noah staggered, gripping his head.

Dead Zone broke free from the pressure and seized his shoulder.

"Don’t listen."

The silhouette laughed softly.

He says that because he remembers too.

Dead Zone’s crimson eye flared.

"Say one more word."

The shadow extended its hand toward Noah’s chest.

The golden light reacted immediately, forming a barrier between them.

The silhouette stopped.

For the first time, its posture changed.

Curiosity became hunger.

So that is where they buried it.

The ancient prisoner roared.

"NOAH! DO NOT LET IT TOUCH THE GOLDEN SEAL!"

The Watcher descended from the fractured sky once more, its body compressed into a towering crimson blade. Its three eyes locked onto the shadow.

NEW TARGET IDENTIFIED.

EXTRACTION PRIORITY: MAXIMUM.

The shadow turned toward the Watcher.

Its golden slit narrowed.

You should not have come here.

The Watcher struck.

The silhouette opened its mouth.

No sound emerged.

Yet every crimson eye across the realm shattered at once.

The Watcher’s body convulsed, its form collapsing into scattered fragments.

And beneath Noah’s feet, the golden seal began to crack.

The crack beneath Noah’s feet widened.

Golden light poured through it, illuminating the crimson realm from below. For a moment, he saw something moving beneath the fractured floor.

Not a creature.

A structure.

An enormous circular seal buried beneath layers of darkness, its surface covered in ancient symbols and chains. At its center rested a small, black mark shaped like a broken crown.

The same symbol from his vision.

Noah’s breath caught.

"That’s inside me..."

The golden-black entity looked down through the opening.

"No. That is what remains of you."

Noah turned toward it. "What does that mean?"

The entity did not answer.

The shadow behind Noah stretched toward the seal, its long fingers hovering above the crack.

They buried the door beneath your identity, it whispered. They made you believe the lock was your soul.

Dead Zone stepped forward, crimson energy swirling around his body.

"Enough riddles."

He swung Shadowfang at the shadow.

This time, the blade connected.

A black cut appeared across the silhouette’s chest.

The shadow staggered.

Noah felt its pain pass through his mind, sharp and cold. It was not physical pain. It was something older, an injury inflicted on its existence.

The golden slit in its face turned toward Dead Zone.

You still remember how to hurt me.

Dead Zone’s expression hardened.

"I remember wanting to."

The shadow’s wound began closing.

Before it could recover, Dead Zone attacked again, driving Shadowfang through its abdomen. Crimson energy flooded into the wound, forcing the silhouette backward.

Noah watched, stunned.

Dead Zone was not merely fighting the shadow.

He recognized it.

And whatever history existed between them, it was buried beneath layers of rage.

The Watcher’s remains began gathering above the battlefield.

Crimson fragments flew toward one another, forming a gigantic skeletal frame. Its three eyes had been destroyed, but dozens of smaller eyes opened across its body.

PRIMARY OBSERVATION SYSTEM DESTROYED.

EMERGENCY RECONSTRUCTION ACTIVE.

NEW METHOD: INDIRECT EXTRACTION.

The Watcher extended its arms.

Crimson threads shot downward, bypassing Noah and Dead Zone entirely. They wrapped around the golden seal beneath the floor.

The seal began turning.

The entire realm shook.

The ancient prisoner pulled against its chains, golden blood spilling from its wrists.

"Stop it!"

The Watcher ignored him.

The seal rotated faster.

A low sound emerged from beneath the ground, like a door being dragged across stone.

Noah felt something inside his chest respond.

His golden light dimmed.

The shadow behind him smiled.

There it is.

"No," Noah whispered.

The black mark at the center of the seal began opening.

A thin line of darkness split across it.

Dead Zone turned toward Noah. "What’s happening?"

"I don’t know."

The shadow leaned close to his ear.

You do.

Noah’s hands began trembling.

A memory surfaced.

A voice speaking to him as a child.

Not a parent.

Not a teacher.

Someone standing behind a locked door.

If you ever hear your name spoken from beneath the floor, do not answer.

The memory vanished.

Noah’s golden eye widened.

The darkness beneath the seal began forming a mouth.

The Watcher’s reconstructed body raised its arms, forcing the seal wider.

EXTRACTION GATE: 18%.

The ancient prisoner suddenly tore one arm free from its chains.

The resulting shockwave swept across the realm, knocking Dead Zone backward and scattering the Watcher’s crimson threads.

The prisoner stared directly at Noah.

"Listen to me carefully."

Its voice trembled.

"Whatever speaks through that gate..."

The mouth beneath the seal opened.

A whisper rose from the darkness.

It spoke Noah’s name.

The prisoner’s face twisted with terror.

"Do not answer."
