The Extra's Rise: Reincarnated As A Slave
Chapter 103: Send Off
Chapter 103: Chapter 103: Send Off
"Ever has it been that love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation." — Kahlil Gibran
The path behind the Titan’s fallen lair wound deep through a narrow fissure of ancient, glassy basalt, carved out eons ago by elemental force. The air grew strangely warm, stripped of the sulfurous sting that had defined the lower floor, humming instead with the thick, rhythmic thrum of active spatial magic.
Riven, Elora, and Nyx emerged into a high, circular vault of white marble and dark brass. At the far end of the sanctuary stood an ancient archway, the portal the floor boss had kept suppressed beneath its dark mana for centuries.
With the Titan atomized, the archway had roared back to life.
Its inner threshold swirled with a luminous storm of silver and violet light, throwing shifting reflections across the polished marble floor.
Elora stepped closer to the runic pedestal flanking the archway, her fingers lightly trailing over the ancient glyphs carved into the brass casing.
Her eyes narrowed.
Her confident expression slowly disappeared.
"Elora?"
Riven stepped up beside her, one hand resting against Nyx’s dark, scaled neck.
"Is the gate unstable?"
Elora didn’t answer immediately.
She bit her lower lip, staring at the swirling violet core of the portal as a heavy silence settled over the marble chamber.
When she finally turned toward him, her eyes were bright with unshed tears.
"It’s an emergency teleportation gate," she said softly.
Riven’s expression tightened.
"When the floor master dies, the ley lines begin purging the subterranean floor to prevent a complete spatial collapse."
She swallowed.
"But..."
"But what?"
"It doesn’t have a fixed exit coordinate."
Riven’s chest tightened.
Elora looked back toward the portal.
"The array uses localized displacement to scatter survivors across different dungeons. It can send survivors anywhere within the connected dungeon network."
Her voice began to tremble.
"Riven... it won’t send us together."
Silence.
The words struck harder than any monster ever had.
Riven stared at her.
"What?"
"The spatial currents will separate our signatures the moment we enter."
"No."
Riven immediately stepped toward the runic pedestal.
"There has to be a way to go together."
He began examining the array, his eyes rapidly following the ancient patterns.
"We can’t."
Elora’s voice was quiet.
Riven stopped.
She looked at him through tear filled eyes.
"If we force two separate mana signatures into the same unstable channel, the gate will collapse."
Riven’s jaw tightened.
"Then I’ll take the risk."
"No."
"Elora."
"You know the array mechanics."
She stepped closer.
"You know I’m right."
Riven stared at her.
He wanted to argue.
He wanted to find another answer.
He wanted to destroy the entire gate before accepting that the abyss had one final cruelty left for them.
But the runes were ancient, and the mathematics behind them were absolute.
He knew exactly what would happen if they tried.
They would both die.
His hands slowly clenched at his sides.
Nyx gave a low, mournful whine.
Her luminous violet eyes moved between them.
Then she stepped forward and pressed her dark scaled snout against Elora’s waist.
Elora looked down at the wyvern.
A broken laugh escaped her lips.
"Even she understands."
Riven lowered his gaze.
For six months, Elora had been his world.
She had pulled him from the brink of death.
She had nursed him through fever.
She had patiently guided him back from feral madness.
She had repaired his armor, corrected his swordsmanship, and sat beside him through countless nights when the abyss felt endless.
She had become the person who made the darkness bearable.
And now the gate was going to tear them apart.
Elora’s first tear slipped down her cheek.
Riven reached for her hand.
Her fingers immediately intertwined with his.
"I don’t want to lose you," he whispered.
His voice cracked.
"Elora... you saved me."
Elora stepped forward and wrapped both arms around him.
Riven froze for half a second before pulling her tightly against his chest.
Her face buried itself against his shoulder.
"You saved me too," she whispered.
Her voice trembled.
"I was dying in this dark for three years before you fell through that rift."
Riven closed his eyes.
"You gave me a reason to fight again."
"You gave me the chance to go home."
His arms tightened around her.
They stood together in the center of the ancient vault, holding each other as the spatial gate continued roaring behind them.
Neither wanted to let go.
Eventually, Elora slowly pulled back.
She looked up at him.
Her cheeks were wet with tears.
"Listen to me, Riven."
He looked into her eyes.
"We will see each other again."
Riven swallowed.
"The world above is enormous. We might be scattered across kingdoms."
She reached up and gently touched his cheek.
"But we’re both going back to the surface."
Her thumb brushed away one of his tears.
"We’ll find each other."
Riven nodded slowly.
"I promise."
His voice steadied.
"I swear it on my blade. I will find you."
Elora smiled.
"And I will find you."
She hesitated.
For one brief moment, neither of them spoke.
Riven expected her to step away.
Instead, Elora moved closer.
She rose slightly onto her toes.
Riven’s eyes widened.
"Elora..."
She gently placed one hand against his cheek.
Then she kissed him.
It was brief.
Warm.
Soft.
Nothing like the violence and desperation that had defined their months in the abyss.
Riven completely froze.
His mind went blank.
His eyes widened in genuine shock, his entire body momentarily forgetting how to move.
Elora pulled away just as quickly.
Her face had turned bright red.
For perhaps the first time since Riven had met her, she looked completely uncertain.
"I..."
She glanced away.
Riven stared at her.
He touched his lips with two fingers.
"Elora..."
She gave him a small, embarrassed smile.
"Don’t make that face."
"What face?"
"That one."
Despite the tears still clinging to her cheeks, she laughed softly.
Riven couldn’t help smiling.
Then Elora stepped backward.
The portal behind her flared brighter.
Her smile faded.
"It’s time."
Riven’s chest tightened again.
He reached for her hand one last time.
Their fingers intertwined.
Then she slowly released him.
"Find me."
"I will."
Elora stepped toward the portal.
Nyx gave a sharp, distressed chirp.
Elora looked down at the wyvern.
"Take care of him."
Nyx pressed her head against Elora’s hand.
Then Elora looked back at Riven.
One final smile crossed her face.
"Don’t let the dark claim you again."
"I won’t."
She stepped backward into the swirling silver light.
The portal immediately swallowed her.
"Elora!"
The spatial current erupted.
Silver light flashed across the chamber.
Her figure disappeared completely.
Then the portal went silent.
Riven stood motionless.
For several seconds, he simply stared at the empty space where she had been.
His fingers slowly touched his lips again.
Nyx pressed herself against his leg.
Riven looked down at her.
The wyvern stared back with her luminous violet eyes.
He took a slow breath.
Then another.
His expression gradually hardened into determination.
"Come on, Nyx."
"We’re going home."
Riven turned toward the portal.
Then he stepped forward.
Nyx followed at his side.
The moment they entered the threshold, space twisted violently around them.
The ancient vault dissolved.
The abyssal floor vanished.
Purple and silver streaks swallowed his vision as the spatial current tore him through the depths of the dungeon network.
Then everything stopped.
Riven crashed onto hard, moss covered stone.
He rolled several times before coming to a stop against a damp cavern wall.
For several seconds, he simply lay there.
Then he slowly pushed himself upright.
Cold air rushed into his lungs.
He looked around.
The walls were covered in green moss.
Small streams of water trickled between the rocks.
Somewhere in the distance, he could hear the faint cry of a surface monster.
Riven stared upward.
There was no black abyss above him.
No endless darkness.
No suffocating pressure.
He was back.
The year in the abyss was over.
Riven slowly stood.
Nyx emerged from the portal behind him, landing heavily on the moss covered floor.
The portal flickered once.
Twice.
Then collapsed into a shower of fading silver particles.
Silence returned.
Riven stared at the place where it had disappeared.
He was alive.
He was stronger.
He had survived the abyss.
But as he looked into the quiet shadows of the unfamiliar dungeon, one truth settled heavily in his chest.
For the first time in months, Elora wasn’t beside him.
Riven closed his eyes.
He could still feel the warmth of her hand against his cheek.
He could still remember the brief touch of her lips.
Nyx gave a quiet chirp beside him.
Riven opened his eyes.
The calm, mature determination returned to his face.
He placed one hand on his sword.
Then he began walking toward the distant sound of the surface.
The abyss was behind him.
The sky was somewhere ahead.
And somewhere beneath that same sky, Elora was waiting.
