The Fantastic Little Farmer
Chapter 105: Night Raider
Chapter 105: Chapter 105: Night Raider
Ultimately, Zhang Yun compromised. They would share the room; Ouyang Mingruo would take the bed, and he would sleep on the floor.
"See? Isn’t this great? I even saved you the air conditioning," Ouyang Mingruo said, leaning over the edge of the bed to chat with him.
Zhang Yun simply closed his eyes. "Miss Ouyang, don’t tempt me to commit a crime. I’m no saint. You’ll be the one crying when it happens!"
"Am I really that attractive? How do I compare to the young wives and older girls in your village?" Ouyang Mingruo asked with a smile.
"Pfft!"
"Turn off the light!" Zhang Yun teased back, feeling his body heat up.
Ouyang Mingruo turned off the bedside lamp and spoke softly, "Zhang Yun, no matter what... thank you for taking me in. Even if it’s just for one night, I can finally get a peaceful sleep."
Zhang Yun sighed inwardly. You could guard against thieves day and night, but it was hard to guard against the ones in your own family. Staying in the hospital had kept her constantly on edge. Aside from Ouyang Chunqiu’s assassination attempts, she was perhaps even more afraid of Ouyang Kunpeng showing favoritism toward his son!
If Ouyang Kunpeng gave his tacit approval, Ouyang Mingruo’s safety margin would be incredibly low.
"Go to sleep. You’re absolutely safe here with me. I’ll protect you."
"Good night." Ouyang Mingruo seemed very reassured by his words, and her breathing soon grew even.
She slept soundly, but Zhang Yun was tossing and turning!
His interactions with Sister-in-law Xiuqin over the past two days, along with Yang Xiaoyun’s immense allure, had constantly been stoking his inner fire. Now, sharing a room with such a massive beauty—barely a meter apart—she was practically within arm’s reach!
"Go for it! She’s been under so much pressure lately. Give her some warmth, a little negative-distance care."
"You beast! She told you all about her hidden family crisis. She didn’t have anyone reliable to turn to, which is why she sought refuge with you, a relative stranger. And you want to sleep with her?"
"That’s not right. She said she was willing. She said it was fine, so it’s only a natural progression."
"When she was willing, you didn’t dare to do it. Now that she’s asleep, you want to sneak an attack? How messed up!"
Zhang Yun felt like there were two little people fighting inside his head.
After agonizing over it for a while, he didn’t take any action. He figured he would just wait for Ouyang Mingruo to fall completely asleep, then go to the bathroom and beat his little brother until it foamed at the mouth...
Thinking about his upcoming beating session actually calmed Zhang Yun down. Reflecting on it, this was his first time sleeping in the same room with a young woman, let alone a gorgeous one. Even if they didn’t do anything, it was still an exciting and beautiful memory.
Then, the awkward happened. Zhang Yun had originally planned to wait until Ouyang Mingruo was sound asleep before heading to the bathroom, but he ended up falling fast asleep himself...
When he woke up again, it was to the sound of barking dogs.
Not every household in the village kept dogs, but for a place like Xiuqin’s House where there were only two women, how could they feel safe without one? They didn’t just have one dog; they had two!
However, her family’s dogs were very well-trained. They only barked when someone trespassed into the yard alone or when complete strangers passed by outside, never disturbing the neighbors otherwise.
Normally, Zhang Yun wouldn’t pay much attention to the barking. Dogs would bark when villagers living far away walked by.
But tonight was different; Ouyang Mingruo was here. On one hand, Ouyang Chunqiu might have sent people to track them down and assassinate her. On the other hand, some greedy individuals might have come to steal her car.
Although the village didn’t have local thugs like Li Bing, the allure of a Maybach might still make some people lose their minds. In reality, the more luxurious the car, the harder it was to fence, and the police would monitor it strictly if reported. However, there were always those who couldn’t stand seeing others do well and just wanted to smash the car out of pure malice.
Zhang Yun sat up immediately.
Ouyang Mingruo also woke up in an instant!
She hadn’t been lying; her nerves truly had been on high alert recently.
"Don’t be afraid. The dogs are barking, so I’m going to the balcony to see if someone is trying to smash your car," he said.
"Be careful," Ouyang Mingruo said, looking a bit worried.
Zhang Yun quickly opened the door. Without turning on the lights, he went straight to the second-floor living room balcony.
Either the person had already passed by, or they were being very careful. The dogs at Xiuqin’s House weren’t barking fiercely; it was just a WOOF here and there.
Zhang Yun focused his attention on the Maybach parked by the road outside the yard. He stared at it for a while but didn’t see anyone approaching, nor did he spot anyone throwing things at the car from a distance.
Just as he thought he might be overthinking it, he heard a faint noise!
"HISS!"
He quickly looked over and saw a person climbing onto the wall of his yard.
The yard walls in the village weren’t considered very high; their purpose was more for privacy and psychological comfort than actual security defense. However, being in the countryside, people would definitely embed a layer of broken glass on top of the walls. That was the crucial element for a security warning.
The guy who had just climbed the wall clearly hadn’t considered this layer. He had grabbed onto it directly, and the HISS was a quiet gasp of pain he couldn’t hold back when his hand was pierced.
Zhang Yun sneered inwardly. Would a petty thief be this precise?
Word that he had received one million in cash yesterday had spread to everyone, yet no thief had climbed his wall to steal it. Would the people arriving right now really be here to steal things?
If they were sent by Ouyang Kunpeng, they wouldn’t need to sneak in like this. They could only be Ouyang Chunqiu’s men!
"There’s glass on the wall..." After reaching the top, the man moved carefully to avoid getting cut again, then whispered to the outside.
The person outside was directly under the wall, so Zhang Yun couldn’t see them from his height on the second floor. He didn’t rush, waiting for them to come in.
Once the man on the wall crouched down steadily, he gripped the inner side of the wall with one hand and reached outside with the other.
The person outside probably jumped up and grabbed his hand, then pulled himself up along with him, both of them exerting force together. The second person kicked off the wall, stepped onto the top, and jumped into the yard.
The one on the wall glanced around and jumped down as well.
The two sneaked over to the entrance and immediately started cursing in low voices, "Damn it, a steel door..."
A steel door? Why did that sound so weird?
Zhang Yun couldn’t see them from the second-floor balcony, but he quickly realized what was happening. The double-layered stainless steel door was locked solidly; it would be very difficult to open without making a sound.
The two stepped back a bit, looked up, and felt extremely frustrated again. "There are security bars up there!"
They had originally thought it would be very easy to break into a rural house, assuming they could do it completely unnoticed without leaving any traces. They never expected that some simple, primitive defenses would leave them entirely helpless.
"Try pulling the security bars apart and squeezing through!"
Breaking the steel door or the glass windows would make a loud noise, but as long as one was strong enough, the aluminum alloy security bars could be pulled outward from both sides simultaneously. It wasn’t easy to pull them wide enough for a person to squeeze through, but it generally wouldn’t make much noise.
The one with the injured hand immediately crouched down. The other stepped on his shoulders, and as he stood up, the man grabbed the edge of the second floor and climbed up.
After coming up, the man stepped on the outer edge of the eaves, chose a spot, and grabbed the aluminum alloy railings with both hands, pulling hard. As long as the bars were bent wide enough for a head to pass through, the body could usually follow.
Right as he was exerting all his strength, Zhang Yun, who had crouched down ahead of time, suddenly stood up and stared at him closely from inside the security bars.
Hearing no footsteps and seeing no movement, having a human figure suddenly pop up right in front of his face scared the man so much that he fell straight backward!
