Chapter 125: Chapter 125: These Middle-Aged Men
Ouyang Mingruo replied directly, "I’ll kill you!"
Since they couldn’t provide photos of her death, the other party would be suspicious. She might as well vent her anger to their face! By sending this message, the other party would know exactly who had the phone.
"Alright. Contact someone to handle the aftermath!" Zhang Yun said. "It’s only been a few days since the last incident, so you can reach out to the contacts your dad used before. There’s no need to wait here for a car. I’ll head back with you in a bit!"
Ouyang Mingruo nodded. Since she had decided to wage war, she needed to act immediately.
"I’m going to apply some medicine," Zhang Yun said.
Using that as an excuse to step out, Zhang Yun immediately entered the Peach Blossom Spring Space. He had recently acquired two guns and stored them inside. It wasn’t convenient to take them out now, but they could be used as Weapons when necessary.
He hastily dug up a ginseng root inside and called He Xiong, telling him to come pick it up when he had time. This matter concerned his future ginseng sales channels, and since the other party was in a hurry, he couldn’t afford to forget it again.
As it turned out, He Xiong was having tea at Zhang Youcai’s place. Upon answering the call, he said he would come over immediately!
Zhang Yun tidied up a bit and casually wrapped the ginseng in a plastic bag. Before long, He Xiong arrived, with Zhang Youcai brazenly tagging along.
"I prepared it for you a while ago, but there were too many people around earlier, so it wasn’t convenient. Take it back and appraise it yourself. I trust you won’t switch it out and frame me." Zhang Yun opened the plastic bag to show him.
He Xiong had grown up immersed in Liu’s Restaurant. Even if he wasn’t a professional appraiser, he could tell a thing or two by comparing it. Such a large root was obviously much better than the last one.
"Boss Zhang, how could I not trust you? I’m incredibly grateful to you!" He Xiong transferred the money to him on the spot. "Don’t worry! As long as I come out on top, I will definitely reward you handsomely!"
Zhang Youcai just kept them company the whole time. Seeing that it was ginseng and had nothing to do with antiques, he had nothing to say. However, he couldn’t help but feel envious. What kind of luck did this kid Zhang Yun have, to be able to dig up centennial ginseng at will? Did he grow ginseng in his vegetable garden?
Glancing at He Xiong’s one-million-yuan transfer made him turn green with envy. He worked tirelessly running his factory all year. When profits were good, he only made a few hundred thousand. When they were bad, he barely broke even or even suffered losses. Selling a few ginseng roots like Zhang Yun did was comparable to his entire factory. Collecting antiques was truly just a hobby for this kid!
"Alright! I’m a bit busy today, so I won’t entertain you any longer." Having received the bank transfer notification, Zhang Yun bluntly showed his guest the door.
"Okay! I’ll treat you to a meal when I get back!"
This was exactly what He Xiong had been waiting for all day. Now that he had it, he wanted to hurry back and have it appraised.
"I just heard there was an accident. You’re busy, so I’ll see Boss He out for you!" Zhang Youcai enthusiastically took Zhang Yun’s place and escorted He Xiong out.
"Uncle Cai!" Zhang Yun hurriedly stopped him. "Is it convenient for you to lend me your car?"
He Xiong, who was about to leave, immediately offered, "Where are you going? I can give you a ride!"
Zhang Youcai whispered, "I just heard that the Maybach knocked into the river belongs to Zhang Yun’s girlfriend." He then nodded at Zhang Yun. "It’s no problem! I’ll drive it over in a bit."
He Xiong was momentarily surprised. When they heard the news earlier, he thought it was just a rumor spread by the villagers. Zhang Youcai was considered relatively well-off around here, and even he couldn’t afford a Maybach. But for some reason, hearing that it belonged to Zhang Yun’s girlfriend, he no longer thought it was fake. Instead, he was astonished by the identity of this girlfriend. It was a pity he had only caught a brief glimpse earlier and hadn’t paid close attention, and she hadn’t come out just now.
Since Zhang Youcai had agreed to lend his car, it wasn’t appropriate for He Xiong to compete, so he took his leave first.
After handling all this, Zhang Yun sent a text to his dad, mentioning that he would be seeing Ouyang Mingruo off shortly and probably wouldn’t be back tonight.
The phrase "wouldn’t be back tonight" made Zhang Fu beam with joy. Then, a thought occurred to him: Ouyang Mingruo must be feeling restrained here, or she found the living conditions too poor. Tossing subtlety aside, he quickly texted back, "Bring your ID card! Go to the most expensive hotel! And don’t forget to buy a box of condoms in advance!"
This left Zhang Yun utterly speechless. He wondered what his dad was thinking and if they were even that kind of people. Had they even reached that stage? If they really had, they could have just done it at home.
"What’s wrong?"
Hearing that the guests had left, Ouyang Mingruo came downstairs. Seeing Zhang Yun looking at a message with a bizarre expression, she immediately leaned in closer.
"My dad thinks we’re going out to get a hotel room..."
Ouyang Mingruo had been in a bad mood, but reading this made her laugh. "A father knows his son best! Your dad definitely knows you well. You’re such a pervert, yet you still try to play innocent with me!"
"..." Zhang Yun changed the subject. "What’s your plan? If you ask your dad to send a car to pick you up, he might tamper with it again. I borrowed a car from someone, so should we drive back ourselves?"
"Yeah. It’s quite a long drive back. Do you know how to drive? If you don’t, I’ll have to stop and rest since I’d be driving alone. In that case, we really would have to get a room tonight... Was this all part of your plan?"
Ouyang Mingruo was discussing things seriously, but then suddenly steered the conversation back to that topic, leaving Zhang Yun speechless.
"With you saying that, is it better if I know how to drive or not?"
"So do you or don’t you?"
"I have a license and I can drive on the highway. I don’t own a car, so I haven’t driven much," Zhang Yun answered truthfully. "But I should still be the one to drive. I’ll just take it a bit slower. I’m only a bodyguard. You’re the commander-in-chief about to fight a war, so you need to focus on deploying your troops!"
Speaking of this, Ouyang Mingruo’s mood grew a bit heavy. "Alright. Oh, by the way, let me know if there are any updates on Die’s condition. I’ll cover her medical expenses for the most comprehensive checkups and the best treatments."
Zhang Youcai soon brought the car over. It was a BMW—not quite on par with a Maybach, but it wasn’t too shabby either.
When handing the keys to Zhang Yun, Zhang Youcai leaned in and whispered, "There are condoms in the armrest box. If you guys get busy in the car, remember to get it washed for me."
"We have serious business to attend to!" Zhang Yun didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at the antics of these middle-aged men.
When Zhang Yun got into the car, Ouyang Mingruo sat in the passenger seat.
"Why don’t you sit in the back and get some rest?"
"It’s fine." Ouyang Mingruo shook her head. "You don’t drive often, and this isn’t a car you’re familiar with. I’ll feel more at ease sitting next to you. Plus, I can help keep an eye out when the road conditions are bad."
Since Zhang Yun didn’t know the area well and Ouyang Mingruo wasn’t familiar with the local roads, they decided to just use the GPS.
Upon leaving the village and passing the river, they saw a crane salvaging Ouyang Mingruo’s Maybach. A large crowd of onlookers had gathered. After turning a corner, they spotted another vehicle that had been burned down to its frame on the road, with traffic police handling the scene.
"Maybe I just have bad luck with Maybachs. I should switch to a different car..." Ouyang Mingruo smiled bitterly.
"It’ll be fine once everything is resolved," Zhang Yun comforted her. "Then you can drive whatever car you want."
"Is the vehicle registration in here?" she asked.
"I’m not sure. Let’s see if it’s in here..."
"Focus on driving. I’ll look!"
Ouyang Mingruo opened the armrest box next to her. Many people were in the habit of keeping their driver’s license and vehicle registration inside, though they could also be electronic nowadays. What she found instead was a pile of foil packets marked "003". It was obvious at a glance what they were.
"You purposely let me open this, didn’t you? What are you trying to hint at?"
