Chapter 133: Chapter 133: Sowing Discord

In the dead of night, sound travels easily. Uncle Zhong had been keeping his voice down while reprimanding the women just now to avoid alerting anyone inside the house.

Now, the gunshot echoed like a thunderclap, shattering the surrounding peace. The seven thugs, previously forced back by Zhang Yun, were terrified into scattering and hiding behind several cars.

They considered themselves experienced men, but someone opening fire without a second word was a first for them. A gun’s greatest use was deterrence; once fired, all hell would break loose! If he dared to kill one person, wouldn’t he dare to kill them too?

"Go to hell!" Seeing Zhang Yun’s muzzle turning toward him, Uncle Zhong grit his teeth and pulled the trigger. The kid was too dangerous to be ignored.

"BANG!"

Another gunshot rang out, making the hiding thugs too afraid to even peek out. They weren’t authorized to carry guns, leaving them unable to join the fight. Poking their heads out would only turn them into targets.

After firing, however, Uncle Zhong froze in shock. Zhang Yun had been standing right in front of him, mere meters away. He had been absolutely certain this shot would hit its mark. Where did he go? Did he just vanish into thin air?

Uncle Zhong remembered the report he received last night claiming that Zhang Yun was capable of Instant Teleportation. Anyone who heard it thought it was just a fabricated excuse to shirk responsibility. But now, Zhang Yun had literally disappeared right before his eyes. If it wasn’t Instant Teleportation, could it be Invisibility? No! Even with Invisibility, he still would have been hit. He could only have moved somewhere else.

"Where is he? Do you see where he went?" Uncle Zhong panicked, spinning around rapidly.

The thugs, who had ducked at the gunshot, cautiously peeked out and were completely bewildered. Wasn’t that him? Wasn’t Zhang Yun standing right there? He was even pointing his gun at Uncle Zhong! Why was Uncle Zhong spinning around like a headless chicken? Could he be experiencing hallucinations induced by Hypnosis?

While they were baffled, Uncle Zhong finally spotted Zhang Yun reappearing. But before he could aim his shifting muzzle, Zhang Yun fired!

"ARGH!"

Uncle Zhong’s agonizing scream was no less piercing than the wail of the woman who had been kneed in the crotch. Zhang Yun hadn’t blown his head off; instead, he shot a hole straight through the shoulder holding the gun. As Uncle Zhong’s arm dropped, Zhang Yun casually stepped forward and snatched the weapon.

"Fun, isn’t it? Whose head do you want to blow off?"

Uncle Zhong was drenched in cold sweat, unable to believe his eyes. He didn’t believe in any Instant Teleportation; he too suspected he had been misled by a hallucination. "If you’re going to kill me, just get it over with..."

Zhang Yun smashed the grip of the gun directly into his jaw. "You’re still trying to play the tough guy with me? Does a backstabbing traitor like you even deserve to?"

Holding a gun in each hand, Zhang Yun pointed them toward the cars. "You seven, get over here and beat this bastard up! Otherwise, when I come over there, I’ll blow your heads off!"

Uncle Zhong clutched his shattered shoulder, teeth clenched tightly. Hearing that his own subordinates were going to be used to humiliate him, he seized the moment while he wasn’t being aimed at and fiercely rammed into Zhang Yun!

Zhang Yun sneered. Without a gun, did this old geezer really think he was worthy of a fight? He simply lashed out with a kick.

Uncle Zhong had intended to use all his strength to tackle Zhang Yun to the ground, nullifying the advantage of the firearms. As long as he pinned him down desperately and called over his seven thugs, he could successfully turn the tables. However, Zhang Yun’s kick sent him tumbling head over heels, crashing heavily onto the ground.

"Stop!" Ouyang Mingruo’s voice rang out. But she called out a step too late; as her voice faded, Uncle Zhong’s body also hit the dirt.

The sleeping pills they administered didn’t have much of an effect on Zhang Yun, as he was far tougher than a normal person. Ouyang Mingruo had only taken half a pill, but her constitution was naturally much weaker. Still, when the first gunshot rang out and the woman holding her got shot in the head, she tumbled to the ground. That jolt stimulated her senses, and the second gunshot completely woke her up.

Before she could get a clear grasp of the situation, she only saw Zhang Yun and Uncle Zhong fighting, and she hurriedly called for them to stop. Seeing Uncle Zhong kicked into a somersault and slammed onto the ground, Ouyang Mingruo scrambled to her feet.

"Zhang Yun! Why are you attacking Uncle Zhong?"

Seeing this scene, the seven thugs hiding behind the cars immediately realized that Ouyang Mingruo had been unconscious and missed the preceding events.

"Miss Mingruo! Careful, he’s with the enemy!"

"Come here quickly, he’s going to attack you!"

"He’s shooting at us! Uncle Zhong has been shot!"

Ouyang Mingruo was still a bit groggy, but showing no fear, she walked toward Zhang Yun. "Is what they’re saying true?" She glanced around, noting the group hiding behind the cars, and the three people—including Uncle Zhong—lying on the ground.

Mingruo couldn’t believe it at all. Could Zhang Yun actually be Ouyang Chunqiu’s man? If it were true, then a lot of unbelievable coincidences could be perfectly explained.

He hadn’t coincidentally appeared at the foot of the mountain; he had been waiting there in advance to save her. Everything he did for her was a deliberate act of playing hard to get. Easily knocking down two men last night, the subsequent attacks and warnings—all of it was fake. Today, he had purposely sent Die and the others out in the car to put on a show. The only thing burned was an empty vehicle. That was why no matter where she went, the enemy could accurately track her down—because Zhang Yun was a human tracker! Everything at the rest area could have been a staged performance too, which was how he had rescued her so effortlessly while she was knocked out, unable to witness a thing.

This realization was an absolute shock to Ouyang Mingruo, almost driving her to a mental breakdown once again! Just tonight, she had felt that Zhang Yun was the person she trusted most in the world. Was that trust about to shatter?

"Miss, come over here quickly!"

"Don’t believe him!"

"He’s definitely going to say we’re the ones trying to hurt you!"

Fallen on the ground, Uncle Zhong had been in too much pain to even scream. But hearing everyone’s verbal assists, he immediately played along to garner sympathy. "Miss, run! Don’t believe him! Don’t believe him! Don’t believe... URGH!"

The last part wasn’t an act; he actually spat out a mouthful of blood!

Zhang Yun was originally going to beat the living daylights out of them, but seeing their successful performance of shifting the blame, he calmed down instead. "They are people you know well, while I’m a relative stranger. Do you believe them, or do you believe me?"

Zhang Yun smiled breezily. This was somewhat of a test. If a trust so deep it moved her to tears could be completely dismantled by a misunderstanding in just an hour or two, then it wasn’t worth much. It wouldn’t be worth him sacrificing too much for her.

Ouyang Mingruo looked at the men cowering behind the cars, listening to their words. Add to that witnessing Uncle Zhong kicked flying by Zhang Yun, and now Uncle Zhong offering a loyal warning while spitting blood... All of this had a massive impact on her. Seeing is believing, while hearsay is false—could everything really be fake?

But... even though she hadn’t known Zhang Yun for long, all her impressions of him were incredibly profound! That included the time he was severely injured and unconscious, as well as everything that happened in the village over the past two days. Zhang Yun was absolutely not that kind of person!

"Seeing is believing" applied to him too! She had witnessed with her own eyes how Zhang Yun shielded her from boiling water and blocked a knife for her! The large burn on his neck, the bleeding stab wounds on his back and arm—she had seen and touched them all.

"Miss Mingruo, be careful!"

"Just tell him you believe him, otherwise he’ll kill you!"

One of the more clever thugs among the seven continued to fan the flames.
