The Fantastic Little Farmer
Chapter 138: Why Don’t You Get Married
Chapter 138: Chapter 138: Why Don’t You Get Married
Zhang Yun had clearly explained the consequences to her, but he wouldn’t let her do it herself. Her hands had never been stained with blood. He had already blown away several people and didn’t care about adding one more to the count.
How smart was Ouyang Mingruo? She naturally understood that Zhang Yun was trying to protect her. However, she could also foresee even more consequences!
No matter what had happened or what he had done, Ouyang Qilin was still a key member of the Ouyang Family. If he died at Zhang Yun’s hands, would the Ouyang Clan just let the matter drop? Unlike Uncle Zhong and Lei Bing, this was her uncle. Her father would be forced to step forward. If Zhang Yun really did this for her, it would only ruin him!
If this had to be done, she had to do it herself!
Ouyang Mingruo forcefully pulled the gun away from him and walked step by step until she stood in front of Ouyang Qilin.
Cold sweat began to bead on Ouyang Qilin’s forehead. "Mingruo! I’m your Uncle Qilin! Even if I harbored bad intentions, my care and support for you have always been real!
"Are you really going to kill me? I watched you grow up from a little girl. Can you truly bring yourself to do it? You’ll live in the shadow of this for the rest of your life!
"It’s not that I’m afraid of death—I deserve to die! A single shot to the head would be a quick end without suffering. But I’d rather bleed out and wait for death right here than let you live with the regret and trauma!"
His performance was incredibly convincing, acting like a dying man speaking his genuine final words. He made it seem as though he was thinking entirely of Mingruo’s well-being. However, his rapid, non-stop delivery made it obvious that he was simply trying to stall for time.
Outside, the roar of vehicles had already surged into the resort!
"Be good. Your father is already here. Hand me over to him and let him deal with me according to family law! If you act now, it will only taint your morals and make others think your father failed to raise you properly. Combined with the dirt that was leaked tonight, it will ruin him completely.
"You’ve already won; there’s no need for mutual destruction. I’ve lost, and I accept my fate, alright? Just treat me like a stray dog and let me go, okay?"
Ouyang Qilin pleaded bitterly. Glancing at Zhang Yun nearby, he knew that this man was the only one who could sway Ouyang Mingruo’s decision at this moment.
"Zhang Yun! I was wrong. I’m begging you to spare my life! You just said you wouldn’t kill me. You’re an honorable man; a true gentleman never goes back on his word..."
"Save it! I’m just a scheming troublemaker who only cares about his own safety. What’s a broken promise to me?" Zhang Yun sneered.
Seeing Mingruo’s trembling arms, he desperately wanted to step forward and snap Ouyang Qilin’s neck with a single kick. But this was a hurdle Mingruo had to overcome herself. If she couldn’t get past it, his intervention would only leave a lingering thorn in her heart.
"SCREECH—" The sharp sound of tires skidding from a sudden brake echoed outside.
"Mingruo, stop!" Ouyang Kunpeng shouted before he had even stepped out of the car.
Zhang Yun sighed inwardly. It seemed Ouyang Qilin wasn’t destined to die today. If Mingruo insisted on shooting him now, her justifiable actions would become unjustifiable.
Hearing the voice, Ouyang Mingruo’s slender frame shuddered, and she immediately prepared to pull the trigger!
Zhang Yun reached over and snatched the gun from her hands. "Let it go..."
It was too late. Even if she had made up her mind, pulling the trigger required immense courage. The same was true for Zhang Yun; his previous clean kills were driven by sheer urgency, leaving him no time for second thoughts.
Ouyang Mingruo threw her arms around Zhang Yun. Her shoulders twitched, but this time she didn’t cry; she merely took a moment to steady her emotions.
Outside, car doors opened, and footsteps rushed inside.
"Mingruo!"
Ouyang Kunpeng had brought a large group of men with him. They split up to secure the injured thugs outside, while only one young man followed him into the building.
Ouyang Mingruo let go of Zhang Yun and remained silent.
Knowing it was difficult for his daughter to face him right now, Ouyang Kunpeng gave a brief nod without saying a word. His gaze shifted to Ouyang Qilin on the floor.
"Kunpeng, if you had arrived a minute later, you wouldn’t have seen me again." Ouyang Qilin’s heart finally settled. He then glanced at Zhang Yun nearby. "Is this your man? If you wanted to get rid of me, you didn’t have to complicate things by using an outsider. Just say the word—would I even dare to resist?"
Ouyang Kunpeng furrowed his brows. "Get some people over here and take him to the hospital."
Hearing this, Zhang Yun understood perfectly. Just as he had suspected, Ouyang Kunpeng knew a lot of things, but it was either inconvenient for him to state them outright, or Mingruo wouldn’t have believed him if he did. And just like her, he couldn’t bring himself to kill his own brother!
It seemed he would have to keep an extra eye out from now on and guard against Ouyang Qilin’s retaliation. Or... if the opportunity arose...
The young man was Ouyang Chunqiu. Before he could head back outside, Ouyang Mingruo bowed to the two of them.
"I listened to slander and allowed myself to be deceived, almost making a grave mistake. I will resign from all my positions within the Ouyang Clan!"
"Child, what are you saying..."
Without waiting for a response, Ouyang Mingruo grabbed Zhang Yun’s hand and pulled him outside. Once they were out, just as she was about to get into her car, Zhang Yun held her back.
"Your misunderstandings stem from a lack of trust and communication. If you leave like this, you’re essentially handing the narrative over to Ouyang Qilin. It might only lead to new misunderstandings."
Ouyang Mingruo glanced at him in silence.
"I know you feel too ashamed to face them right now. But look at it from another angle: you’ve been through enough tonight. Whether it’s breaking down or losing face, could it possibly get any worse? Why not resolve everything all at once? Otherwise, what kind of situation will it take for you to finally put your pride aside next time?" Zhang Yun said softly. "No matter the outcome, I’m right here with you."
Ouyang Kunpeng had already followed them out. "Mingruo, let’s not bring our problems back home. Shall we talk right here?"
Ouyang Chunqiu was already directing the men to handle the aftermath. Aside from Ouyang Qilin being shot, Uncle Zhong and two others had been killed, multiple people were injured, and several cars had exploded. The severity and complexity of the situation far exceeded their expectations.
"Zhang Yun is coming with me," Ouyang Mingruo relented, but laid down a condition. Without Zhang Yun by her side, she didn’t feel she had the courage to face them.
After all, this wasn’t an issue of a day or two; it was the accumulation of years. There was a deep rift and a lingering thorn between her and her father. As for Ouyang Chunqiu, it went without saying—they had always been hostile and at each other’s throats. She used to think the animosity was mutual, but now she realized she had been the instigator. The others had merely been reacting defensively, or perhaps it had always been her one-sided provocation.
Ouyang Kunpeng shot Zhang Yun a complicated look.
Zhang Yun smiled. "I’ll stay with Mingruo. Although I’m an outsider, I’ve already been dragged into this over the past two days, so I have a general grasp of the situation."
Ouyang Kunpeng nodded. "Alright. I’m troubling you! And also..." He hesitated for a moment but ultimately apologized. "I believe you heard what I said on the phone earlier. I suspected you... I’m sorry!"
Hearing her father agree and apologize to Zhang Yun, Ouyang Mingruo’s mood improved significantly, though she felt a twinge of shame. At the time, her father must have suspected that Zhang Yun had been bought off by Ouyang Qilin, and that everything they had encountered was just a staged act.
Ten minutes later, the scene had been cleared. The four of them sat in the hall in silence.
"How about... you two get married?" Ouyang Kunpeng’s attempt to break the silence left the other three completely stunned.
"What are you talking about?" Ouyang Mingruo muttered with a frown.
Zhang Yun chuckled. "Haha, Boss Ouyang, you must be speaking sarcastically, right? Your stance at the hospital, and later sending people to my house—the subtext was always to tell me to stay far away from Mingruo. We all understand that."
