The Fantastic Little Farmer
Chapter 201: Gifting 100 Million Shares?
Chapter 201: Chapter 201: Gifting 100 Million Shares?
After letting his imagination run wild about Zhang Yun’s identity as a big shot, He Xiong’s attitude and line of thinking completely shifted. When he saw someone approaching and Zhang Yun told him to leave first, he immediately got the wrong idea.
Zhang Yun had booked two rooms and brought three girls along. He must have had such an incredibly wild night that his legs were weak. The girls were probably still fast asleep, and he had simply come downstairs to eat breakfast and regain his strength.
But why would he need to bring a gun just for that?
It meant he knew someone was coming to cause trouble!
Did that mean a fight was going to break out right here in the restaurant?
He Xiong was practically vibrating with excitement. A cinematic gunfight was about to happen live right in front of him! How could he possibly bear to leave? He immediately rushed to grab a little more food as a disguise, then chose a table right behind Zhang Yun to sit down.
He had no idea if the newcomer was packing heat, but he knew for a fact that Zhang Yun was. Naturally, he couldn’t sit directly opposite him—if a firefight broke out, stray bullets wouldn’t discriminate.
"You’re here," Zhang Yun said calmly, still eating his food at a leisurely pace.
The newcomer was Ouyang Chunqiu. He gave Zhang Yun a slight bow, showing the utmost respect, before taking a seat.
"Zhang Yun, sorry for interrupting your meal," he said.
"It’s fine. Just spit it out," Zhang Yun replied. "But frankly, does your sister know you treat me like her husband? I’m getting a free pass on her reputation here."
Ouyang Chunqiu smiled slightly. "I referred to you as my brother-in-law last time, and she didn’t correct me."
Just like how Ouyang Mingruo was able to find his hotel room, Zhang Yun wasn’t at all surprised that Ouyang Chunqiu could accurately track him down to the restaurant.
"Get to the point," Zhang Yun said, wiping his hands and waiting for Ouyang Chunqiu to speak. The guy had gone out of his way to find him; it definitely wasn’t just to make small talk.
"My father sent me. He wants you to sign this." Ouyang Chunqiu immediately pulled a stack of documents from the bag he was carrying.
Sitting behind Zhang Yun, He Xiong couldn’t hear what they were saying, but he didn’t want to miss this rare opportunity. Under the guise of casually holding his phone, he zoomed in and recorded the newcomer, fully prepared to capture the impending gunfight on video.
Ouyang Chunqiu looked perfectly polite and refined, but after only a few words, Zhang Yun stopped wiping his hands. He Xiong’s heart instantly leaped into his throat. He was about to draw his gun!
When he saw the newcomer also reaching into his bag to pull something out, he grew even more nervous. He panicked, "Oh crap, the other guy has a gun too! If they start shooting, I’m going to get caught in the crossfire!"
He Xiong hurried to put his phone away, ready to dive under the table the moment weapons were drawn. But then he paused. He thought, "Huh? Why does that look like a stack of documents? Was it a false alarm? Or is he planning to wait for Zhang Yun to look at the papers before pulling a gun for a sneak attack? Should I warn him? No, Zhang Yun is a big shot. He should have enough situational awareness for this."
While He Xiong continued to let his imagination run completely wild, Ouyang Chunqiu had already pushed the documents in front of Zhang Yun.
Zhang Yun teased, "What’s this? A live-in son-in-law contract from Boss Ouyang?"
He took it and looked it over, only to find that it was a share transfer agreement. Ouyang Kunpeng was gifting him shares. He didn’t bother looking closely at the exact number to see if it was millions or tens of millions of shares.
"What’s the meaning of this?" Zhang Yun frowned after skimming the first page.
"The night before last, and all throughout yesterday, you did us a tremendous favor. It’s a great kindness that simply cannot be measured in money," Ouyang Chunqiu said, reciting his prepared lines with a sincere attitude. "Having my sister marry you directly doesn’t seem quite right either; it’s best to let your relationship develop naturally. Therefore, my father immediately had someone draft this contract to gift you company shares worth around a hundred million as a token of our gratitude."
Gifting me shares worth a hundred million?
Zhang Yun’s frown deepened. Ouyang Kunpeng had a massive family empire, so this amount probably meant nothing to him. The problem was... what did he even need stocks for?
Seeing his displeased expression, Ouyang Chunqiu assumed he thought it was too little. He carefully explained, "The main issue is that the timeframe was too short. Once everything stabilizes, my father will add more... If the number of shares transferred is too large right now, it will attract unwanted attention from all sides and trigger stock price volatility."
"Heh, you misunderstand," Zhang Yun replied. "I’m not complaining that it’s too little. I just don’t see why I’m being given shares when I’m not even part of the Ouyang Clan. Chunqiu, I bet even your personal shares don’t amount to this much, right? It’s not fair."
At first, Ouyang Chunqiu was a little confused, but when he heard Zhang Yun actually speaking up about the unfairness toward him, his nose stung and he was overwhelmed with emotion.
This man was practically family!
He had displayed his talents at a young age, entering the company and working his fingers to the bone, yet he had only managed to reach an executive position. The shares he actually held were truly pitiful! His father kept his distance to avoid suspicion, his sister sought to suppress him, and on top of that, he had to endure his uncle’s oppression. He practically lived with his tail between his legs, constantly enduring mockery. He never even dared to dream of being gifted a massive block of shares.
Yet this outsider, whom he had only met once, was actually angry on his behalf!
"Zhang Yun! You truly are like a real brother to me!"
Zhang Yun was a bit taken aback, not understanding why Ouyang Chunqiu was suddenly getting so worked up.
"You don’t need to feel it’s unfair for me," Ouyang Chunqiu said. "My situation is rather unique. It’s not convenient for me to hold too many shares right now; that would only invite more jealousy and hatred. Besides, your contributions are far greater than mine! After all... Ouyang Qilin’s shares are going to be repossessed."
When he said that last sentence, Ouyang Chunqiu’s eyes gleamed with excitement.
He was different from Mingruo. Even if Mingruo was used as a pawn, Ouyang Qilin’s years of support, help, and care meant she still had some affection for him. Ouyang Chunqiu, on the other hand, had only endured his oppression. Naturally, he felt no complicated emotions about Ouyang Qilin’s downfall—he was just purely thrilled!
Even if Ouyang Qilin couldn’t compare to Ouyang Kunpeng, he was still one of the major shareholders. With Ouyang Kunpeng seizing all the assets he had built up over the years, his father’s authority within the family would reach its absolute peak! Ouyang Chunqiu was the only son. Even if it wasn’t convenient to give him too much right now, a share of the family business would eventually be his. Whether thirty became fifty, or fifty became eighty, he would ultimately receive much more.
Zhang Yun felt a wave of helplessness. Why couldn’t this guy understand? He was rejecting the shares themselves! He didn’t understand the stock market, nor did he have the patience to keep an eye on it. Now that the Ouyang Clan was in chaos, the stock price could plummet by tens of percent at any moment. Did he really have to spell it out and ask for cold, hard cash?
"Zhang Yun, please sign it. Our entire family is grateful to you; we would never use this to screw you over. If you’re truly worried, you can always have a lawyer look it over."
Ouyang Chunqiu offered him a pen. He had been assigned to complete this task, and if he failed, he would lose points in his father’s eyes. All he could do was gaze earnestly at Zhang Yun.
Zhang Yun actually believed this. After seeing the bloody aftermath at Liu Yandao’s place yesterday, there was no way Ouyang Kunpeng would dare try to scam him. Their lives were too precious; they couldn’t afford a fight to the bitter end.
"Fine. I’ll do you a favor and sign it!"
Zhang Yun took the pen and, under Ouyang Chunqiu’s guidance, filled out his ID number, name, and the other required details.
Because Zhang Yun had spoken up on his behalf and explicitly stated he was doing him a favor, Ouyang Chunqiu’s impression of him skyrocketed. However, he was a very busy man, so he left shortly after the signing was complete.
In the back, He Xiong had been waiting the entire time for Ouyang Chunqiu to draw a gun. In the end, the guy just had a contract signed and left. The lack of the anticipated showdown left him thoroughly disappointed. Still, he couldn’t shake the feeling that the man had an extraordinary aura and definitely wasn’t some ordinary guy. What could he possibly have needed Zhang Yun to sign?
Unable to contain his curiosity, He Xiong sent the photo he had snapped of Ouyang Chunqiu to his older cousin in the family, wanting to see if he recognized him.
"You usually mess around in small towns, so it’s fine that you don’t know him, but whatever you do, don’t offend him! That’s Ouyang Kunpeng’s son, Ouyang Chunqiu. And don’t go acting like an idiot trying to cozy up to him either. He’s an illegitimate son, so it’s publicly a taboo to bring up his identity!"
Seeing the stern warning from his cousin—who managed their local affairs—He Xiong was stunned. Ouyang Kunpeng was a massive heavyweight. Yet his son was actually treating Zhang Yun with such deep respect?
He immediately made another connection. Didn’t Zhang Yun’s gorgeous, impossibly elegant girlfriend who drove the Maybach look a bit like Ouyang Chunqiu?
Case closed! Zhang Yun’s girlfriend was Ouyang Kunpeng’s daughter!
Good lord! He really was a low-key big shot!
He Xiong was just about to run over and suck up to him some more, only to find that Zhang Yun had already left.
