The Fantastic Little Farmer
Chapter 220: Pestering at the Door
Chapter 220: Chapter 220: Pestering at the Door
Zhang Yun’s home had been bustling with visitors lately, which left him feeling a bit helpless. It couldn’t be Ouyang Mingruo. Chen Hui wasn’t at home, and Yang Xiaoyun couldn’t possibly come looking for him—she didn’t even know where he lived.
Fu Yudie called him Master and was always with Xu Jin and the other two. Even that Gu Ming’er had visited before.
Zhang Yun thought it over and decided there was only one possibility: Qi Luo. She craved his Elixir. Perhaps she had figured things out, was willing to offer herself, and simply came over claiming to be his girlfriend. That would explain why everyone was teasingly asking if a wife had fallen from the sky.
"Zhang Yun is back! Hehe, hehe..."
"Hurry up, a girl is looking for you."
From the front gate to the courtyard, the local women were gathered to watch the spectacle. They winked and made faces at him, leaving Zhang Yun not knowing whether to laugh or cry.
However, he had developed a thicker skin lately and didn’t feel embarrassed at all.
Seeing so many people, Zhang Yun felt somewhat glad he hadn’t carried that snake back. Otherwise, it would have sparked another heated discussion.
He strode confidently into the living room and immediately sensed that something was wrong. Very wrong! Where was Qi Luo?
Even if Qi Luo had come with an ulterior motive, at least she was beautiful, had a great figure, and possessed formidable combat skills. But the person sitting in the room right now... was actually that Li Cuicui from this morning!
"What’s going on?" Zhang Yun immediately pulled a long face. "Who are you people?"
Li Cuicui was lying on a recliner, seemingly asleep. Zhang Fu was helplessly keeping two men company over tea—a middle-aged man around fifty and a young man in his twenties.
"Um... this is Mr. Li Jin from neighboring Wa Village, his son Xiaowu, and that’s Cuicui," Zhang Fu quickly introduced them.
From the moment Zhang Yun walked in, Li Jin and Li Xiaowu had been staring at him. Now, Li Jin immediately plastered a smile on his face.
"What? Zhang Yun is back?" Li Cuicui woke up with a start, opening her eyes and casually wiping the corner of her mouth.
"Zhang Yun really is a striking young man. Capable, educated, and skilled. If you get together with Cuicui, you’ll definitely give us a chubby baby boy within a year!" Li Jin was extremely enthusiastic, stepping forward to grab Zhang Yun’s hands.
The onlookers outside the door grew even more excited. This Li Jin was quite something—nothing was set in stone yet, but he was already dreaming of a chubby baby boy.
Li Cuicui smiled coyly at Zhang Yun. "Zhang Yun, you’re finally back. I’ve been waiting for you for so long."
"Who are you? What are you doing in my house?" Zhang Yun didn’t give them a friendly look. He then pointedly complained to his father, "Dad, you’re just too kind, letting anyone in. What if something goes missing..."
Zhang Yun’s attitude made the onlookers outside even more thrilled. Forgetting to crack their sunflower seeds, they squeezed right up to the door to watch.
Li Xiaowu suddenly stood up, interrupting him. "Zhang Yun, what do you mean by that?! You took advantage of my sister, and you still think you’re in the right?"
Took advantage of? The expressions of the village women outside instantly lit up with intrigue.
Initially, it sounded like they were here to propose a marriage. Although it was rare not to use a matchmaker, it could be explained by their close proximity. But as it turned out, Zhang Yun had taken advantage of Li Cuicui, and now her family had come demanding he take responsibility?
"What kind of bullshit are you spouting?" Zhang Yun glared at him.
"What! You wanna hit me, don’t you? Do it! I know how tough you are! Beat me up just like you did to Li Bing! Come on! I’m a coward if I flinch!"
Li Xiaowu flushed red and charged right up to Zhang Yun’s face.
Li Jin quickly held him back, and Li Cuicui stood up as well, blocking his path.
"Xiaowu, don’t be reckless!" She gestured at Zhang Yun with two items in her hands. "Zhang Yun, this morning after you finished the deed, you took a shower and ran off. I brought your clothes back for you..."
"WHOA!" The women outside erupted in excitement, clicking their tongues in amazement. Li Cuicui was a young woman; how could she casually talk about "finishing the deed"? This had to be true!
"Get out! Your whole family is absolutely shameless." Zhang Yun truly hadn’t expected this Li Cuicui to go to such lengths!
Staking him out this morning to create a chance encounter could be brushed off as her taking the initiative. Stealing his clothes while he was in the fish pond was already despicable enough, but to use them as evidence to cause a scene here was simply beyond the pale.
"How can you be so cruel, so heartless, and so unreasonable?" Li Cuicui teared up, looking exactly like a victim abandoned by a heartless scoundrel.
"Miss Cuicui! You have to take responsibility for what you say. This involves Zhang Yun’s reputation, as well as your own. You can’t just spout nonsense!" Earlier, Zhang Fu hadn’t understood the situation or whether his son had actually done anything. But seeing his son’s attitude now, he firmly believed no such thing had happened.
"What kind of talk is that? If Zhang Yun hadn’t done it, would my daughter bring it up? Isn’t a girl’s innocence important? You better teach your son properly!" Li Jin’s neck also turned red with anger.
However, Li Jin still maintained a death grip on Li Xiaowu. Everyone knew what happened to Li Bing, and he didn’t want his son getting beaten up.
Zhang Yun really wanted to scold Xu Jin and the others. Why did they let these people in? Thinking about it, he realized they must have left early this morning to report to Ouyang Mingruo.
"Don’t accuse me of hitting people again. I’m giving you one minute to get out of here, or else I’m calling the police. You can figure out for yourselves how long it takes for the town’s officers to get here."
Zhang Yun took out his phone as he spoke. "If I call the cops, this won’t end peacefully. I’ll get a lawyer immediately and sue you until you end up behind bars!"
Police, lawyers, and going to jail? Li Xiaowu exploded with rage and cursed, "Fuck you! Son of a bitch! You think you can scare—"
SMACK! Zhang Yun stepped forward and slapped him across the face, drawing a mouthful of blood. He had held back, too; otherwise, he would have knocked the man’s teeth flying.
Li Cuicui and Li Jin hurriedly rushed forward and grabbed one of Zhang Yun’s arms.
"Why are you hitting people? You’re going too far!"
"Zhang Yun! If you have a problem, take it out on me, but don’t hit my brother!"
Zhang Fu also hurried forward to intervene but was immediately pulled back by a woman from the village.
"Brother Fu, just stay out of it. Zhang Yun has never lost a fight, so how could he possibly get the short end of the stick?"
"Exactly! You’re getting up there in years. If you get pushed and take a fall, do you think Zhang Yun would be able to hold back? He’d beat them half to death!"
"Here, have some sunflower seeds!"
Being pulled aside by them, Zhang Fu could only force a bitter smile. He was stepping in because he was afraid his son would hit too hard; he wanted to hold Zhang Yun back, not the other two! Sunflower seeds? As if he was in the mood to snack!
"Son! Be careful not to hit them too hard, or they’ll extort you for it!"
Zhang Yun was just about to shake them off, but he quickly restrained himself. That’s right! These people had thrown all shame out the window; they would seize any opportunity to play the victim and extort him!
If they just threw themselves onto the floor and refused to leave, even if he tossed them out, they would crawl right back. He couldn’t just keep beating them endlessly, could he?
"Look! Look at the true colors of your village’s Zhang Yun! Does he think he can bully a young woman just because he’s got brute strength and money? We swallowed our pride to come over and negotiate, and he wants to hit us? Where in the world is there such an unreasonable person?!"
Li Jin’s accusations turned into a mess of snot and tears, as if he had suffered the greatest injustice in the world.
Li Cuicui immediately started crying as well. "I’m so ill-fated! Zhang Yun, I like you. Is it a crime to like you..."
Li Xiaowu pounded the table behind them. He probably wanted to attack but knew he was no match for Zhang Yun.
Seeing this family acting furious, sorrowful, and utterly victimized made the watching women feel a twinge of sympathy.
"She’s lying!" At that moment, a crisp, sweet voice drifted in from the door.
