Chapter 244: Chapter 244: Enforcing Justice on Behalf of Heaven
Returning to Ancient Tree Back wouldn’t take long, but Song Tie had cheerfully gone off to prepare dog meat. He would definitely try to make Zhang Yun stay for dinner before leaving.
It wasn’t an issue of whether or not he was averse to eating dog meat; he just wasn’t well-acquainted with Song Tie. Furthermore, Song Tie’s family and friends would probably join them later.
After some thought, Zhang Yun made up his mind. It was just a bit of a run—no big deal!
Making sure there was no one around, he grabbed his motorcycle and brought it into the Peach Blossom Spring Space. After storing the bike safely, he exited the space.
Instead of running up the main road, he leapt onto the adjacent hillside. Using the terrain to his advantage, he sprang up to grab branches and swing forward, or bounded onto branches before leaping ahead.
Although this route was much more challenging, it allowed him to travel in a relatively straight line, meaning it wouldn’t delay him much. More importantly, he hadn’t had his fill of fun coming down the mountain earlier; now was his chance to continue practicing.
When descending, he could casually leap forward with the downhill momentum. Going uphill, however, was far more difficult. Zhang Yun couldn’t traverse exclusively by stepping on branches; he had to use both his hands and feet.
This journey of practice made even him find it amusing. Was this practicing Lightweight Skill? That Female Ghost had moved with ethereal, fairy-like grace, whereas he looked more like a gibbon...
Leaping and climbing up the hillside until he reached the giant banyan tree would put him at the summit. From there, the rest of the way was mostly downhill and would be much easier.
Approaching the mountaintop, Zhang Yun heard voices coming from above.
He could probably hitch a ride if he went straight up, but anyone loitering under this giant banyan tree was either heading back to Ancient Tree Back or down to Under the Ancient Tree at the foot of the mountain. A free ride wouldn’t save him much effort anyway.
Zhang Yun decided to just run down himself. To avoid being seen, he had to detour along the edge of the summit.
"Should be soon, right? Stone said he didn’t go back to look for Tie. He’s probably just moving slow pushing that motorcycle up here."
"Should we go take a look?"
"That would be too obvious. This is the only way back for him, so we just need to wait."
Skirting the edge of the mountaintop, Zhang Yun could clearly hear the group talking under the giant banyan tree above. Initially, he hadn’t paid them any mind, but as their words drifted to his ears, why did it sound like they were talking about him?
After a brief hesitation, Zhang Yun moved up a little closer, reaching the edge of the banyan tree platform. Peering over, he took in the scene above.
Three young men were smoking, with two motorcycles parked nearby.
"Did you siphon out all the gas? You gotta leave enough for him to ride up here. If he goes back to Tie and gets more gas, this whole thing will be pointless."
"Who do you think I am? You think this is a movie? Even with my own bike, I couldn’t get it that precise."
"You guys insisted on siphoning the gas. Like I said, we should’ve just tampered with his brakes. He’d be fine coming up the mountain, but the second he hits the brakes on the way down, he’d definitely crash. Then we swoop in and become his saviors."
"Bullshit! That’s even harder to control! If he flips into the ravine, he’s dead on the spot. If the bike blows up, he’ll be charred to a crisp!"
"Exactly! We just want to make some cash, not kill anyone!"
"Alright, enough talking! Get ready, he should be up here any minute."
As they spoke, they stood up and peered down the path leading up the slope.
"Wait... is this really okay? Shouldn’t we wear masks or hats or something?"
"Wear my ass! You think this is a kidnapping? When he’s pushing his motorcycle down the mountain, Jun will ride by, pretend to accidentally clip him, and then act like he didn’t notice a thing. A few minutes later, the rest of us will pretend to just be passing by."
"This guy is loaded. Tie probably sold him some pig or bull whips or something and still managed to score tens of thousands. If we save his life, wouldn’t he easily toss us a few grand in gratitude? Would he even call the cops? Are there even surveillance cameras out here?"
The trio scanned the path but saw no sign of anyone. Jun then volunteered to ride down and check.
This time, the other two didn’t object. They told him that once he saw what was happening, he shouldn’t come right back; he should call them instead. They would coordinate before he returned, just in case riding back and forth raised suspicion.
When Zhang Yun first realized their conversation was about him, he couldn’t figure out why they had siphoned his gas. Was it to sell the gas and extort him for repairs? After listening closely, he realized they had drained his tank simply to stage an accident so they could play the heroes!
Song Tie had probably gotten the 88,000 yuan and, unable to contain his excitement, bragged about it without revealing the details. This had enticed these three men, who now saw Zhang Yun as a fat sheep ripe for the slaughter!
Doing things this way was more convoluted than tampering with the brakes, but it showed they still had a shred of decency. Otherwise, riding down the mountain without brakes would have genuinely cost him his life.
Even so, the fact that they were willing to injure an innocent stranger and put him in danger—just to make a quick buck by playing the savior—left Zhang Yun deeply annoyed.
It was only because they had targeted him today; even if he were normally pushing his motorcycle down the mountain, he wouldn’t let them knock him over. But if it had been anyone else, they absolutely wouldn’t have been able to dodge the hit!
Even if it wouldn’t result in severe injuries or death like a brake failure, it wouldn’t be surprising to break a leg sliding down the slope, or to end up with a cracked skull and a bloody face from hitting a rock.
And all this just so they could score some cash!
Zhang Yun held himself back. If he jumped out right now, the incident hadn’t happened yet. They could easily brush it off as a joke, and there wasn’t even any hard proof that they had siphoned his gas.
These were young men in their twenties; a simple scolding wasn’t going to set them straight. They had to taste the bitter consequences of their own actions!
The most effective consequence would be karmic retribution delivered in the name of the heavens!
Zhang Yun suddenly pondered the ancient concept of karma—that good and evil both received their due. Perhaps it was just superstition, or a fabricated fable meant to caution the masses. But could it also be the work of skilled experts performing anonymous good deeds?
He immediately looked down and picked up a few stones, preparing to exact heavenly justice and ensure these men got the karma they deserved.
Jun hopped onto a motorcycle and rode down the slope from the giant banyan tree toward Ancient Tree Back Village, with the other two walking along behind him. From here, they could gaze at the village in the distance, but they couldn’t clearly see everything on the mountain path.
Zhang Yun had already made his way over from the side of the hill. He aimed a stone in his hand at the tire of the downhill-bound motorcycle and chucked it!
He had dealt with Yellow Hair using a similar method a few days ago, but his strength had increased vastly since then. Having absorbed so much today, he had firmly reached the Ninth Grade. His control over both his force and accuracy was now far more masterful.
This would mimic a brake failure, but since Jun had just set off, his speed wasn’t very fast yet. It wouldn’t cause excessively severe consequences.
Of course, Zhang Yun was watching closely from the hillside. If Jun genuinely flipped over and suffered a severe crash, he would immediately rush over to save him.
SCREECH!
The stone struck the tire, causing it to scrape harshly against the ground. Jun was thrown off the bike and slammed onto the road. The motorcycle skidded off the path and ground to a halt, narrowly avoiding a plunge into the ravine.
The other two cried out in shock and hastily sprinted over.
Zhang Yun had already prepared more small pebbles. With pinpoint accuracy, he flicked them out, striking the soles of their raised shoes.
They were already sprinting down a steep slope. Suddenly, it felt as though someone had forcefully shoved the bottoms of their feet. Both men instantly wiped out, sliding all the way to Jun’s feet. Large bloody scrapes covered their arms, palms, and knees.
"Fuck! What the hell! It felt like someone just shoved the bottom of my foot super hard! God, that hurts..."
"I feel like I got tripped, too..." However, the road surface was perfectly flat, with no bumps or debris whatsoever.
The three of them groaned and wailed, panic creeping into their hearts. Had they seen a ghost, or was this karma for doing bad deeds?
