The Fantastic Little Farmer
Chapter 247: Revelation from Walking the Bird
With Wang Changshun tagging along, it was inconvenient for Zhang Yun to enter his Personal Space to check on those Divine Master Cards.
After a night’s sleep, perhaps because Wang Changshun was particularly attractive to mosquitoes, his legs were covered in large bites. That, combined with sleeping on hard wooden boards all night, left him completely enervated. He wanted to go home right then and there.
Zhang Yun mentioned that he needed to continue cutting grass to feed the fish and suggested his cousin head back first to help his father cook. Wang Changshun immediately seized the opportunity to agree and returned to the village alone.
Zhang Yun was feeling lazy now. Left alone, he went straight into the Peach Blossom Spring Space to pick some melons and fruits. He ate some himself and chopped up the rest to feed the fish.
It had to be said that the Blood Demon Blade was incredibly sharp. Slicing melons with it felt as effortless and satisfying as cutting through butter.
Since it was morning, people could enter the mountains at any time. It wouldn’t be good if someone like Li Cuicui came over. Zhang Yun skipped bathing in the fish pond and simply went home after feeding the fish.
“What did you say to him?” Seeing him return, Zhang Fu immediately pulled him into the house and asked in a low voice.
“What do you mean?” Zhang Yun was baffled.
“Changshun! Wasn’t he supposed to dig for ginseng with you? Why did he guard the fish for a night and then make up an excuse to go back early in the morning?” Zhang Fu simply couldn’t figure it out. Since Wang Changshun had already asked, he was definitely after the secret to striking it rich. Why did he just leave?
Zhang Yun smiled. “I told him the truth.”
“The truth?” Zhang Fu was a bit confused, then his eyes widened in a glare. “You little brat, you didn’t tell me the truth?”
“Don’t insult yourself! Don’t you already know? Actually, everyone knows. It’s just that they are all dreaming of getting rich overnight.”
“What do you mean?”
“When I do business with Boss He, others shouldn’t know the exact price. What they do know is the time Mingruo’s family brought over a suitcase of cash, and they just guess based on that. I directly told my cousin that it was Mingruo’s dad throwing money at me. He understood then that this had nothing to do with ginseng.”
Zhang Fu nodded. He felt he needed to keep his mouth shut tight. If others asked, whether it was about Boss He, Zhang Youcai, or Dean Zhang, he would claim ignorance.
“Then what about Mingruo…”
“Don’t worry so much. With how I am now, are you really afraid I won’t be able to get a wife? I’m going to wash my face.”
Watching his son’s retreating back, Zhang Fu sighed inwardly. She was the daughter of a wealthy family after all; even if there was love, it couldn’t overcome the hurdle of her family. However, there was nothing he could do. Even if he could go back to his youth, it was impossible for him to provide the foundation for his son to be a rich heir. He knew that when wealthy people insulted others, they threw millions in cash, and the cars that girl casually drove were worth millions. His son couldn’t possibly dig up ginseng all the time and had no core competitiveness at all. Was he really going to become a live-in son-in-law?
Zhang Fu’s heart ached for his son. He figured that with their current conditions, they could live very well in the village. There was no need to curry favor with others. Although Mingruo was great, she was ultimately unsuitable. Comparing them like this, it seemed that Xiuxun was actually quite a good match. She was pretty, had good character, was a capable worker, and was filial… She was suitable in every aspect. It was just that people would gossip!
Zhang Fu decided to let nature take its course and stop bringing it up to his son.
Zhang Yun still needed to sell ginseng. Even if he could push the bulk of the blame onto Ouyang Kunpeng, he still had to put on a show. He couldn’t let anyone discover that he could dig it up at any time.
After eating lunch, he made a big show of carrying a bamboo basket on his back and heading into the mountains to dig for ginseng.
Following his previous act, he would go up the mountain to find a deserted place to sleep. But now, he had a new mission: practicing the Lightweight Skill!
Ever since witnessing the Female Ghost’s Body Technique, Zhang Yun had truly been brooding over it. He had tried practicing yesterday, but he only managed to move like an ape, leaving him dissatisfied with the results.
Once he entered the mountains, things became very convenient. The entire mountain was his training ground; he could practice going uphill and downhill. The bamboo basket wouldn’t be a nuisance either, as he simply tossed it into his Personal Space to carry along.
After several hours of sweating profusely during practice, Zhang Yun was now able to exert force with ease and had a very clear judgment of distance and height. Compared to his clumsiness yesterday, he had made obvious progress, though he still wasn’t as effortless as that Female Ghost.
This made Zhang Yun a bit frustrated. It wasn’t that he lacked strength. With the power coursing through his entire body, he felt he had reached the Ninth Grade or even the Innate Realm. It was just that he didn’t understand the techniques of applying it. In fact, combat was the same. If he mastered techniques, defense, and the like, it would allow him to unleash even greater strength.
However, there was no helping it; he had to take things slowly. Someone like Huang Bi from the Donghuang Sect had trained to an old age and undoubtedly possessed a wealth of Experience.
Sitting on a tree branch at the top of a mountain to rest and looking into the distance, Zhang Yun recalled borrowing the Crow’s perspective last time. He thought, “I should take it out for a walk, right? I can let it get some fresh air, and I can have some fun too.”
Entering the Peach Blossom Spring Space, he felt that this guy had grown a bit bigger and looked even more like a falcon. He pulled it out. The Crow looked at the outside world with a sense of longing and nostalgia, but it was very tame this time and didn’t dare to escape.
“Go on, fly…”
Just as he was about to give the command, Zhang Yun suddenly remembered that last time, he had taken control of the Crow’s consciousness while it was already in mid-air. He hadn’t tried “taking off” himself yet.
The Crow vaguely sensed his command and was just about to take flight on its own when it was immediately taken over by Zhang Yun. Since he already had prior Experience, even though it was his first time taking off, he still grasped it very easily.
Piloting the Crow’s body as it soared through the air and gazing at the scenery of the Bijia Mountain District, he couldn’t help but sigh. He thought, “If I had wings, couldn’t I fly however I wanted? Would I be any worse than a Female Ghost?”
After enjoying himself for a while, he even pulled off a few high-difficulty maneuvers in the air. It wasn’t until he made himself a bit dizzy that he finally flew back.
When he saw his own body on the mountaintop through the Crow’s eyes, he felt a bit dazed. He thought, “Is this the feeling of Zhuangzi dreaming of the butterfly?”
Zhang Yun quickly reeled in his thoughts and let the Crow fly on its own. Returning to his own body, although he lacked the weightlessness of flight and seemed to have become clumsy, he felt a different kind of groundedness.
He thought, “If only I really could… Wait a minute! Even though I don’t have wings, can I learn the way the Crow exerts force to fly?”
Zhang Yun felt as if the doors to a whole new world had suddenly opened for him, and he began trying it out right then and there. Failure! Failure! Failure! He failed multiple times in a row. It was impossible to use human arms as wings.
But after trying time and time again, he began to grasp how to utilize a human body to exert force. This was indescribable; it was an experience. When he used the Crow’s body, apart from his initial panic, he quickly and naturally mastered it. It was like a person who had never run before but, by watching others and mimicking them, could quickly get the hang of it.
Now, he was applying that sensation of controlling the Crow to himself, properly executing and exerting his own strength.
After an hour of practice, Zhang Yun had become proficient. Compared to that Female Ghost, he could now move quite passably; he wouldn’t be left in the dust by her anymore, right?
The Crow, having flown free for an hour, had also played enough. It returned to Zhang Yun’s side, watching him practice with curiosity.
“Get back in here!”
Zhang Yun wasn’t sure if there were distance or time limits to his soul connection and control over the Crow. He didn’t dare release it back into the wild, lest it run away for good.
It was already noon. With the sunlight at its fiercest, it was time to move!
Zhang Yun had been practicing all the way towards the Old Tomb Ridge. Now that the Yang Qi was at its peak, he prepared to explore the ancient tomb once more!
