Chapter 263: Chapter 263: It’s Time to Send You Out
Zhang Yun hung up the video call with Ouyang Mingruo and immediately dialed Qi Luo’s voice call.
"What’s the matter?" Qi Luo answered quickly, sounding slightly excited.
Given Zhang Yun’s somewhat disdainful attitude toward her, he definitely wouldn’t reach out on his own unless it was an emergency. Aside from promising to be his subordinate, she was also hoping to receive the Great Nourishing Divine Pill.
"Do you know of an assassin named Mou Shan?"
Qi Luo was slightly startled. "Did he come looking for you?"
As soon as the words left her mouth, she realized her attitude was inappropriate. Zhang Yun was the one asking questions, not answering them. She quickly gave him a brief rundown.
"Mou Shan is a veteran assassin, and you could even call him a minor legend. He doesn’t use modern thermal Weapons. He’s incredible with a saber and excels at disguises. After killing someone, he stages the scene to look like a suicide or an accident. Unless they are professional forensic examiners, it’s very difficult for ordinary people to tell the difference.
"His price is higher than mine, and his strength surpasses both mine and Asura’s. He possessed Seventh Grade strength at least ten years ago, though I’m not sure about his current level. Moreover, his Seventh Grade is not the same as your Seventh Grade..."
"What’s the difference?" Zhang Yun couldn’t help but ask. He didn’t know much about this field; everything he knew had come from Qi Luo.
Qi Luo cleared her throat. "Now, I’m not belittling you. Nor am I trying to boost the enemy’s morale while crushing our own. We are on the same side, and I can’t mislead you. Otherwise, the consequences of underestimating the enemy would be severe..."
"Cut the crap and get to the point!" Zhang Yun interrupted her preamble. He wondered if he was really that kind of person.
"Your Seventh Grade means your personal physical strength has reached that level, but you don’t have any other enhancements. In fact, your other aspects are rather weak. Comprehensively speaking, you might not even reach the Seventh Grade. But Mou Shan is different. He has Seventh Grade strength, plus his Saber Technique, Experience, and so on. Someone like you, even at the Eighth Grade, could likely be killed by him!"
Zhang Yun pondered over their previous battle. Mou Shan’s saber strikes and reactions had been incredibly fast; perhaps he was no longer just at the Seventh Grade. Could his comprehensive combat power rival the Ninth Grade?
Seeing that he remained silent, Qi Luo hurriedly added, "You were the one who told me to speak!"
Zhang Yun smiled faintly. "Really? I don’t believe it!"
"You’ll suffer if you don’t believe it! Mou Shan is truly a dangerous veteran assassin. I have no reason to use an outsider to scare you." Seeing that he wasn’t taking it seriously, Qi Luo grew a bit anxious.
"But... I just slashed both of his legs."
"Wh-what?" Qi Luo suspected she had misheard. Zhang Yun had actually wounded Mou Shan? "Are you sure? Both legs?"
"Is there even a need to be sure? I didn’t chop off his third leg."
"..." Qi Luo was speechless. "How... did you do that?"
"I just grabbed a knife and stabbed and hacked away! However, I didn’t kill him. I let him go."
Qi Luo was shocked once again!
He hadn’t killed him, and he had let him go!
Merely injuring him could have been the result of a chaotic melee, and perhaps Zhang Yun had also paid the price of getting injured himself. But that last sentence indicated that Mou Shan had been captured alive!
"Master, I’m not doubting you... but was the person you met really Mou Shan?" Qi Luo felt that her entire worldview had been overturned.
Zhang Yun chuckled. "Otherwise, how would I know that name? Or... do people in your assassin circle like to impersonate others?"
Qi Luo smiled bitterly. Normally, they wouldn’t. Everyone hid their appearance, address, and other personal information. A name was just a moniker, and everyone wanted their moniker to be as resounding as possible so that their worth would rise accordingly.
Moreover, impersonating another famous assassin would invite retaliation. Disrupting the market would also lead to being boycotted and blacklisted.
"What exactly is the situation?" Qi Luo felt that the problem was much more serious than she had imagined.
"Mou Shan took a contract from the Liu Family’s Liu Wanqi to kill me!" Zhang Yun explained the situation.
Qi Luo remained silent for a moment. "What do you want me to do?"
The last time she ambushed Zhang Yun, she had been hired by Liu Yandao. Qi Luo understood the situation of the Liu Family much better than Zhang Yun did; they were a major power she couldn’t afford to offend! But since Zhang Yun was calling her, he naturally intended to assign her a task.
Whether it was because of her promise or the fact that he had spared her life, she could not refuse.
"Ouyang Kunpeng told me to calm down. He is stepping forward to negotiate with Liu Wanqi, but I estimate it won’t be effective. It is time to send you out. Go and give Liu Wanqi a warning for me."
Zhang Yun’s words made Qi Luo heave a sigh of relief. It was just a warning? She had thought he was going to make her lead the vanguard and go to war with the Liu Family!
"Are there any specific requirements? Or is it up to me to decide?" Qi Luo immediately pressed.
"You can decide. But it must be enough to shock Liu Wanqi!"
"Understood! If the deterrence isn’t enough, we will only face a counterattack from the Liu Family. I will act right away."
Zhang Yun was very satisfied with her attitude. "Good! Do it well, and I will reward you with another Divine Pill!"
If you wanted the horse to run, you had to feed it more grass.
When Qi Luo first answered the call, she had been very excited, hoping for a chance to perform a meritorious deed. Now that she had received the promise of a reward, she couldn’t bring herself to feel excited. The pressure this time was immense.
Although it was merely a warning, it would not be easy to shock the Patriarch of the Liu Family, Liu Wanqi.
Zhang Yun pondered over Qi Luo’s words. Since Mou Shan was a veteran assassin, and even a somewhat famous legend, would he really succumb so easily?
Using a saber was just his specialty. But when the saber failed to solve the problem, would he really be so stubbornly inflexible?
Zhang Yun decided to follow him and take a look. At the very least, he needed to watch Mou Shan drive away. If the man tried to pull a turnaround strike, then he wouldn’t show any mercy!
The lights in the wooden cabin had already been turned off. Zhang Yun quickly stepped outside and lay down in the tall grass behind the cabin. This was hiding in the enemy’s blind spot. If Mou Shan came back to strike again, Zhang Yun wouldn’t be caught off guard and could counterattack immediately!
Since he had decided to track him, he naturally had to follow through. Zhang Yun immediately entered the Peach Blossom Spring Space and grabbed the Crow to put it to work!
After the Crow was brought out, it almost cried!
It had been caught near this very spot last time. After that, it had lived a life of endless darkness... uh, rather, endless daylight. It had only been let out for some fresh air twice.
Now, it finally had the chance to see the dark night, and in a familiar place to boot... If it were a sentimental person, it would probably be streaming with tears.
Zhang Yun hadn’t let it out to play. He focused his mind, took over and replaced its soul consciousness, and controlled the Crow’s body as it took flight from behind the wooden cabin.
Zhang Yun wasn’t sure how good a normal Crow’s vision was, but this Overlord Crow possessed a massive mutation. Its eyesight was even better than a falcon’s; even in the dim light, it could see the situation below clearly.
It flapped its wings, following the direction Mou Shan had left in. It patrolled all the way from the mountain hollow down to the foot of the mountain, only to discover that Mou Shan had already reached the open fields outside.
TSK TSK. It was truly worthy of someone with Seventh Grade strength. In just the time it took to make three phone calls, Mou Shan, despite severe blood loss and dragging heavily injured legs, had managed to walk so fast.
Zhang Yun circled in the air, monitoring his retreat.
However, Mou Shan sat down on a ridge between the fields!
Could he not hold on any longer?
He wouldn’t die here, would he?
Then the point of letting him go would be entirely lost. Ming Tian would also cause a massive sensation among everyone, and they would have to investigate his identity then.
Thinking of all these troublesome matters, Zhang Yun felt that he might as well collect the corpse for him—destroying the body and erasing all traces would be much simpler.
He controlled the Crow to circle briefly before landing on a field ridge behind Mou Shan.
Mou Shan was still highly vigilant. Hearing the movement, he quickly turned his head. When he realized it was just a nocturnal bird, he paid it no further mind.
"Stupid bird! Are you hoping to eat my corpse after I die?" Mou Shan muttered. Then, his phone vibrated. He picked it up, turned on the flashlight, and began waving it toward the front.
Zhang Yun was a bit surprised and moved a little closer along the ridge. Did he have accomplices waiting to receive him?
