The Fantastic Little Farmer
Chapter 29: Don’t Call Me Little Live-in Son-in-Law
Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Don’t Call Me Little Live-in Son-in-Law
"Elder Zhang..." Zhang Yun was a little embarrassed.
Although Zhang Lifeng definitely wouldn’t shell out a million for the ginseng, Zhang Yun had indeed promised him first. Furthermore, He Xiong was only doing this out of respect for Elder Zhang today. It was precisely because of this awkwardness that Zhang Yun had asked He Xiong to extend the invitation on his behalf.
While Zhang Yun was trying to figure out how to explain himself, Zhang Lifeng continued to scold him. "How do you want me to put this? I’ve seen right through it!"
"Seen through it?" Zhang Yun was taken aback.
"Ouyang Kunpeng definitely just gave you a sum of money and considered it a repaid debt, but Miss Ouyang genuinely wants to help you get ahead! She took the initiative to add you as a friend, and you weren’t even willing!"
Zhang Yun was speechless. Was this what he was angry about?
"The chances of Ouyang Kunpeng giving me a leg up are slim, and the same goes for you. But as long as you cling to Ouyang Mingruo’s coattails, even if you don’t go to the big city, you can at least have her look out for us here!
"It’s great that you do good deeds without accepting rewards. But wouldn’t it be nice to secure an investment, an award, or something of that sort for our hometown?"
"Wait!" Zhang Yun interrupted Old Zhang’s earnest preaching. "I’m sorry, I just forgot about it. I’ll accept her friend request right now and send you a screenshot, okay?"
"What do you mean, you forgot? You did it on purpose!" Zhang Lifeng still gave a cold snort.
"Right, come to Six Records in town at twelve noon on Ming Tian. He Xiong wants to buy the ginseng from me, but I have to show it to you first. You probably won’t buy it, but you can at least take a look." Zhang Yun brought this up in passing to avoid being in the wrong.
Hearing this, Zhang Lifeng was displeased. "You brat! You’ve got some nerve. Are you trying to bypass me? What makes you think I won’t buy it? I’m going to buy it! Cancel on He Xiong yourself!"
Zhang Yun laughed. "Don’t be like that. Given our relationship, I always give you good prices. He Xiong is offering a million!"
"Mother of God!" Zhang Lifeng was shocked. "Is he crazy? How did you bewitch him?"
"Watch your phrasing!" Zhang Yun told him the truth. "I promised to get him a century-old ginseng."
"A century-old ginseng?" Zhang Lifeng laughed. "Heh! This has nothing to do with me! I can’t afford a century-old ginseng, so don’t say anything more to me. I know nothing, lest anyone thinks we’re colluding. I’ll just go and watch the show on Ming Tian!"
With that, the old man hung up the phone.
Having notified him, Zhang Yun felt at ease. He then tapped on "New Friends" and accepted the friend request from the account with the note: "Live-in son-in-law! Accept this."
Ouyang Mingruo had probably just urged Zhang Lifeng about it. The moment he accepted, a message immediately popped up.
"You’ve got some nerve, little live-in son-in-law. Ignoring my request?"
Zhang Yun had only done this to give Zhang Lifeng face. Looking at her words, he didn’t even want to reply. Calling him a "live-in son-in-law" was already irritating enough, but adding "little"? In what way was he little? He was incredibly mighty!
Besides, since he had already completed his task, Zhang Yun decided to pretend to be offline. He thought, "I’m a farmer who needs to work in the fields. Where would I find the time to play on my phone constantly? This makes perfect sense!"
"Don’t play dead! Or else I’ll spam you with video calls!"
"..." Having his thoughts exposed made Zhang Yun slightly embarrassed. He had no choice but to reply, "Hello, Miss Ouyang."
"What’s so good about it? I had to force you just to get my friend request accepted. Is that good?"
Zhang Yun unceremoniously replied, "Sorry about that. I’ve added over a hundred girls on WeChat, and I’m exhausted trying to keep up with them. I just didn’t have time to see your message!"
"You’re full of carp!"
Zhang Yun directly sent a voice message. "You’re the one full of crap! Why did you add me? Although you have money and power, as well as looks and a great figure, I’m not a man you can have. Also, you are not allowed to call me ’little live-in son-in-law’ anymore!"
"Tsk, tsk. Should I call you ’big live-in son-in-law’ then?"
"Old live-in son-in-law?"
Ouyang Mingruo sent over a very unladylike sticker of a fat woman bursting into laughter.
"Big live-in son-in-law" was one thing—at least it had "big" in it... but "old live-in son-in-law"! Zhang Yun almost coughed up a mouthful of blood. He shot back sarcastically, "Aren’t you unable to move? Yet you can still play on your phone and type? Aren’t you just amazing!"
"None of your business! I can use Siri voice commands or have my secretary type for me. There are plenty of ways."
Seeing the delivery man with the fish fry arriving, Zhang Yun couldn’t be bothered to bicker with the pampered young lady anymore. He led the man to release the fish fry into the fish pond.
After the delivery man left, Zhang Yun stared at the fish pond and began to ponder.
The return on investment for fish farming wasn’t particularly high, but he had been raising them for a long time. Since Li Bing had stolen a lot of them, there wasn’t much of a harvest left. Having poured his blood, sweat, and tears into it, he still had a bit of an obsession with seeing it through.
Under normal circumstances, it would take a very long time to raise them. Without buying fish feed and relying solely on grass, they wouldn’t grow fast enough. However, what if he used the giant grains, melons, and fruits from the space to feed them?
Those things couldn’t be brought out to be sold or eaten publicly, and Zhang Yun couldn’t finish them all by himself. Keeping them as decorations was a waste of food and took up space on the land inside.
He would do just that!
Zhang Yun went inside the wooden cabin, entered the Peach Blossom Spring Space, and brought a few fish fry with him, planning to raise them in there for a bit.
Zhang Yun hadn’t fully figured out the situation inside this space yet, but he could be sure that the pool of water was extremely potent. Perhaps this space was filled with Spiritual Qi, and the soil was also magical, but the main factor causing the plants and animals to mutate and grow wildly was likely this water!
Before releasing the small fish, Zhang Yun hesitated. This water was so potent; it was fine to use it for watering plants or taking a sip, but the fish would be living entirely submerged in it. Would they explode?
After a moment of hesitation, he released them into the water anyway.
Looking at the rice seedlings again, they were truly like large trees, and the ears of rice and grains had grown even bigger. The vegetables, melons, and fruits were also much larger. If this continued, they would be squeezed to the point of spreading outward into the surroundings.
Zhang Yun hadn’t planted much for the time being, and there was still empty land, so he didn’t uproot them. Instead, he plucked a cucumber that had already grown much larger than a winter melon.
He hacked it open with a knife, and the fragrance of cucumber quickly filled the small wooden cabin. Zhang Yun also slurped up quite a bit of the juice, which tasted like thick, freshly squeezed cucumber juice, and the flesh hadn’t become tough or aged.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t eat that much by himself, and carrying such a massive cucumber back would scare his old man. It was better to chop it into pieces and throw it in to feed the fish.
After feeding the fish, Zhang Yun checked on the growth of the ginseng. The stems, branches, and leaves above ground were clearly different now. As for the exact quality of the roots below, he couldn’t tell and could only estimate!
The root he had dug up and sold yesterday morning had been transplanted into the Peach Blossom Spring Space for about twenty hours and was appraised at twenty to thirty years of age. If he dug these up at noon Ming Tian, it would be over seventy hours, which should put them at least at the level of sixty to seventy years, up to a century-old.
Zhang Yun didn’t know if this estimation was accurate or not. For now, he simply watered them a bit more, making a last-minute effort to boost their growth.
Having finished these tasks, Zhang Yun looked at the last two remaining flower petals, pondering whether he should just eat them together. He had nothing else to do anyway, and he could soak in the fish pond for the afternoon.
But... what if it never bloomed again? He had to save these two petals for emergencies!
Coming out of the Peach Blossom Spring Space, Zhang Yun felt it was time to test his strength. On the first day when he fought Li Bing, he had felt a massive change. Later, when he competed in a handshake with that Xu Jin, he had also firmly suppressed him. Aside from those instances, however, there hadn’t been any other occasions where he had used great strength.
Standing out on the hillside, Zhang Yun looked around. Should he try lifting a large boulder or uprooting a tree?
As the saying went: Xue Baochai punched the Tyrant of West Shaanxi, and Lin Daiyu uprooted the weeping willow!
"Zhang Yun! I finally found you!"
Hearing a sudden shout, Zhang Yun looked over. It was actually Xu Jin, the Sanda expert Li Dajiang had hired yesterday, and he had brought two other men with him. Were they here to settle the score?
Zhang Yun smiled. They were the perfect targets for him to practice on!
