Chapter 56: Chapter 56: It’s Haunted!

The mysterious flower!

In the afternoon, Zhang Yun had eaten the last petal. He hadn’t known if it would bloom again, but he just saw a new bud appear!

Although it hadn’t blossomed yet, he was certain it was the exact same plant.

Overwhelmed with excitement, Zhang Yun hurried over to water it, hoping it would grow quickly. The effects of this thing were simply too powerful.

After watering it, Zhang Yun carefully inspected the bud and unexpectedly discovered something else! The flower he had stripped of petals hadn’t withered at the stamen; it seemed to be bearing fruit!

If just the petals had such miraculous effects, what would happen after eating the fruit?

This was practically a double surprise! Zhang Yun was filled with anticipation for this fruit, though he didn’t know how long it would take to fully form.

After watering the other plants and the ginseng, Zhang Yun exited the Peach Blossom Spring Space. He had originally felt sleepy in the middle of the night, but lying on the bed in the wooden cabin, he found himself unable to fall asleep.

The ginseng he planted for Xiuxun and Auntie Pang was already thriving. He could dig it up at dawn or sometime in the morning. But would they still come Ming Tian?

Xiuxun had been coming for several days in a row. What if she didn’t come Ming Tian? If the plants grew too long, it wouldn’t be convenient to give them to her; delivering them specifically to her door would be inconvenient in a different way...

Zhang Yun pondered whether he should send her a WeChat message... But it was the middle of the night. Some people didn’t mute or set their phones to vibrate at night, and waking someone up wouldn’t be good.

Just as Zhang Yun was too excited to sleep, he heard voices outside!

"Damn it! Sneaking to the mountain fish pond in the middle of the night—aren’t they just here to steal fish?"

Zhang Yun had stood guard here for dozens of nights without encountering a single thief. That bastard Li Bing always came to steal in broad daylight. Now, he had finally run into some actual fish thieves. Instead of feeling nervous or angry, he grew even more thrilled!

He immediately got out of bed, walked softly to the door, and peeked outside through the gaps in the door and walls.

He could vaguely make out two silhouettes on the slope outside, pulling out a bunch of things and fiddling with them. A certain smell wafted over. Zhang Yun’s nose was quite sharp now, and he recognized the scent of fish bait.

"These guys must be veterans, right?"

Stealing fish at night wasn’t easy. By scattering strong-smelling, highly attractive bait, they could draw all the fish into one spot. Once they cast their net, they could catch the entire lot in one fell swoop!

Thinking about this tactic, Zhang Yun couldn’t help but curse inwardly. Li Bing had come in broad daylight and couldn’t afford to linger too long. He must have used this exact method to quickly fill a whole truck and leave!

Zhang Yun suppressed his excitement and didn’t rush out immediately. Right now, they hadn’t actually done anything. They could easily claim they were just here to fish, which would only result in him stating the pond was contracted and driving them away.

"I’ll wait! I’ll wait until they cast their net and catch them red-handed!"

RUSTLE, RUSTLE. After preparing the bait, the two men began using a flashlight to illuminate the area, picking a spot to cast their net.

"Go down to the water’s edge over there!"

One carrying the bait and the other holding a large net, they headed down the slope toward the water.

Zhang Yun wanted to catch them in the act and couldn’t let them escape, so he quickly and gently opened the door to slip out. However, this small wooden cabin was quite shabby, and the door was crude. With a single push, it let out a CREAK, CREAK sound.

In the middle of the night in the mountain hollow, aside from the chirping of insects and the howling wind, the noise of the wooden door was glaringly obvious. The two men who had reached the bottom of the slope heard it too.

"Did you hear a noise?"

"I heard it. Maybe it was just the wind blowing through the trees?"

"You’re sure there’s no one in the shed, right?"

"Bullshit! Didn’t we just go in and check? There was no one there."

"I’ll cast the net first! Shine the light for me so I can see the spot clearly."

Working together, the two men hurled the net with all their might. Waiting for it to sink, they began scattering the bait.

Soon, several fish swam over swiftly, making SPLISH SPLASH sounds as they scrambled to eat the bait.

"Looks like there’s quite a few, and they’re pretty big, too!"

"Heh heh, we’re gonna score big tonight."

They swept their flashlight across the water and grew excited upon seeing so many fish gathering.

"We can haul in the net now, right?"

"Wait a little longer. Keep throwing the bait!"

Zhang Yun had already circled around behind them. With one kick each, he sent them flying straight into the water!

Both men knew how to swim, but suddenly falling into the water in the dead of night, deprived of light, with fish darting all around them, sent them into a frantic panic.

After struggling for a while and swallowing several mouthfuls of water, the two men finally managed to swim and crawl back to the shore.

"Fuck! What just happened? How did we both fall in...?"

"I felt like someone pushed me really hard..."

"Fuck! Me too!"

Both men looked up nervously, but there wasn’t a single silhouette in sight.

"Could that Zhang Yun be in the wooden cabin?"

"But there was no one there."

"Maybe he heard a noise and ran outside the shed to hide first?"

Hiding behind a tree further up, Zhang Yun had figured it out. It must have been that after he entered the Peach Blossom Spring Space, these two had come to check the cabin.

"Then why isn’t he coming out?"

"Are you stupid? There’s two of us. How would he dare to come out?"

"That doesn’t make sense. Li Bing and his son brought a whole group of people to his house, and I heard they all got beaten up. Would he be afraid of just the two of us?"

"You actually believe him? He probably hired a couple of guys, and you think people taking a paycheck are going to risk their lives for him? He got beat up, so to save face, he just made Zhang Yun sound like a badass!"

"Then let’s go up and screw him over!"

While talking, the two men had rested enough on the bank to catch their breath. They immediately stormed ashore and began searching the slope.

"Come out! Otherwise, we’ll burn your shed down!"

They yelled a few times at the cabin door. Hearing no response, they went inside to take another look.

"No one?"

"Could we have just slipped?"

Both men were somewhat doubtful. Paranoia creeping in, they quickly spun around but saw no signs of anyone.

"Let’s hurry up and get this done!"

"Fuck, we wasted the bait!"

The two men returned to the water’s edge. Just as they lowered their heads to look for the fishing net and bait, Zhang Yun reappeared and delivered another kick to each of them!

With the previous Experience, Zhang Yun applied even more force this time, launching them several meters away and kicking up massive SPLASHES of water!

"Who is it!"

"Come out!"

The two of them flailed about while shouting. By the time they wiped the water from their faces and looked at the shore, there wasn’t a single soul in sight.

"Don’t panic! It must be Zhang Yun hiding nearby. It’s just too dark to see clearly!"

"Right! He doesn’t dare show himself because he’s afraid of us! Forget the fish; let’s go up and get him first!"

The two men calmed down a bit and began swimming toward the shore.

At that moment, they felt something wrap around their legs, dragging them backward into the deeper water!

"S-Something’s wrapped around my leg!"

"I’ve been grabbed too! It can’t be a fish... and it’s not weeds..."

"There’s a Water Ghost!"

Just moments ago, when they guessed they were being ambushed by a person, they could still pump themselves up. But now, feeling like they were entangled by a Water Ghost, they instantly panicked!

The two men struggled with all their might, but the only result was being dragged beneath the surface, both of them gulping down water!

Just as the two men were on the verge of losing consciousness, it felt as though something beneath them pushed them up, allowing them to float to the surface.

Ignoring their coughing from inhaling water, they gasped for air. Not daring to linger for even a second, they frantically swam toward the shore.

Just when they were barely a meter away from the bank, both men felt their legs being grabbed once again, followed by being rapidly dragged backward. They instantly let out manic screams!

"Help!"

"There’s a ghost!"
