Chapter 95: Chapter 95: Brother Yun from Tianxin Village

Six people arrived, riding three old motorcycles. They came in aggressively, but seeing the scene before them, they were taken aback, wondering how these kids could have crashed so badly. Following Yellow Hair’s pointing finger, they spotted Zhang Yun, who had just stood up by the roadside. Without a word, the man Yellow Hair had called "brother" stepped forward and delivered a vicious SLAP right across Yellow Hair’s face!

Yellow Hair was beaten silly, and his lackeys on the ground were equally terrified. "Why is he attacking his own people first? Is this some weird intimidation tactic?" they wondered. "We’re doomed! If this guy is willing to beat his own blood brother, won’t we just be used as cannon fodder to set an example?"

As they trembled uncontrollably, Yellow Hair cried out, "Brother! It’s me! Am I so disfigured from my injuries that you can’t even recognize me? You can at least recognize my voice, right?"

The lackeys kept shaking, though they silently agreed that his face was indeed severely deformed. He looked like a one-horned zombie, and his voice sounded like a eunuch’s. Still, how could his own brother not recognize him?

SLAP! Yellow Hair’s brother struck him again, then began lecturing him with a face full of righteous indignation. "You’re exactly the bastard I’m trying to hit! I told you not to cause trouble, but you never learn! You run around starting fights everywhere. Slapping you a few times is letting you off easy. Believe it or not, I’ll break your legs!"

Yellow Hair was dumbfounded. "Is this really my brother? When did my brother become so righteous? Haven’t I just been copying everything you do?" he wondered. "Did... did you take the wrong medicine?" he asked out loud.

The other guys who had arrived with his brother immediately shouted, "Yellow Hair! You punk, you’re always up to no good, and so are these little brats! Did you offend this boss? Get over here and apologize!" Then, under the bewildered gazes of Yellow Hair and his crew, the six newly arrived men—including his brother—all began bowing and scraping before Zhang Yun.

"Brother Yun! These stupid kids don’t know any better. You were absolutely right to teach them a lesson!"

"Brother, you don’t need to save my face. They deserve a beating!"

"Did they bump into your fingernail? I’ll deal with them for you!"

Yellow Hair looked at his lackeys, whose eyes were filled with absolute terror. They wondered, "What’s wrong with the world? Why are our big bosses acting like lapdogs? Bumped into his fingernail? So we deserve to die?" Yellow Hair’s mind latched onto a single thought. "Could they have been high on something just now? Is that why they’re acting so bizarrely?" he thought.

Zhang Yun smiled faintly. "This brother of yours is quite capable. He brought a group of people here saying they were going to hack me to pieces, but once they arrived, they inexplicably crashed into a pile all on their own. Hey! Tell the truth now, I didn’t lay a hand on you, did I?"

"No, no!"

"We just crashed!"

"It’s true! We all fell off our motorcycles!"

The lackeys nodded frantically as they explained. But could these six men really believe them? Just an hour or two ago, they had also claimed their motorcycles piled up because they were street racing.

"Right! You didn’t hit them! They crashed on their own. However, my idiotic brother still needs a beating!" Yellow Hair had called them over, immediately declaring that he wanted to hack Zhang Yun to death. There was no washing away that fact! To prevent Zhang Yun from resorting to more ruthless methods, his brother turned around and delivered a vicious kick right at Yellow Hair.

Yellow Hair had just turned his head to look at his lackeys when he took the kick from behind, sending him face-planting into the dirt again. The massive swelling on his forehead actually saved the day! It hit the ground first, and though it hurt like hell, it at least prevented his broken nose from getting injured a second time.

"Brother..." he sobbed, not knowing what he had done wrong. The pain and despair made him bawl out loud. Seeing him crash in front of them, the lackeys nearly wet themselves again. They thought they were finished. Yellow Hair’s brother had gone mad with bloodlust!

"Listen up, you punks! This is Boss Zhang Yun of Tianxin Village! From now on, wipe your dog eyes clean. When you see Brother Yun from a distance, you better bow and greet him, or I’ll break your legs!

"Did you hear me! Brother Yun is a magnanimous man. He won’t stoop to the level of you little brats. Hurry up and thank Brother Yun!" Yellow Hair’s brother roared.

These men were six of the original eighteen whose motorcycles had been destroyed, forcing them to ride these beat-up old bikes. Right now, aside from Yellow Hair’s own brother who still wanted to protect him, the rest were terrified of being dragged down by Yellow Hair’s mess. Thus, they all transformed into righteous big brothers, lecturing these delinquent youths to clear themselves of any responsibility first.

"Thank you, Brother Yun!" the lackeys hurriedly expressed their gratitude. Even the face-planted Yellow Hair finally snapped to his senses. The big bosses hadn’t fried their brains; they had simply encountered a much bigger boss! While they didn’t know the background of this Boss Zhang Yun from Tianxin Village, anyone who could turn their bosses into lapdogs was definitely someone they couldn’t afford to provoke!

Yellow Hair cried even harder. "Why the hell didn’t you just state your name! If you had said you knew my brother, would I have tried to extort you yesterday? I would have politely returned your motorcycle, and none of this crap would have happened!" he thought. "This is too damn unfair!"

Zhang Yun swept his gaze over them. They didn’t dare to speak, with An Jing waiting for him to speak.

"I really didn’t hit them. They crashed on their own. Coming down this slope, they took quite a bad tumble. Hurry up and get them to the hospital. I’ll be leaving now." Zhang Yun told the truth, though he figured none of them believed him anymore. Shaking his head, he walked away.

As he left, Zhang Yun reflected on yesterday. Despite his minor punishment and warning, Yellow Hair and his gang had only thought of revenge instead of listening. This was because he had no reputation! Today, he had carved out a name for himself among that group of biker thugs. It was the thugs’ deferential attitude toward him that finally struck fear into Yellow Hair and the others. He realized that in the future, when it was time to be high-profile, he needed to be a bit more high-profile. Having strength but not showing it was like wearing beautiful clothes in the dark of night!

Zhang Yun wandered over to the market, bought a few small softshell turtles, and placed them into the Peach Blossom Spring Space.

The town wasn’t large. There were only a few streets to walk back and forth on, so being on foot wasn’t much of an issue. However, Tianxin Village was a dozen miles away from town, making it highly inconvenient without a motorcycle. Having already tested his physical strength, speed, and even his ability to learn and mimic, Zhang Yun decided it was time to test his cardiovascular function and endurance! He would run home!

Zhang Yun had run in the past. He could finish a ten-kilometer run, but his pace (the time it took to run one kilometer) was over six minutes. According to others, this was considered average. Over five minutes was relatively fast, over four minutes was very fast, and anyone who could break into the three-minute range was considered a god. He searched for running apps—Keep, Joyrun, Codoon—installed a random one, and started running. The app displayed the distance run, elapsed time, pace, speed, and so on. Zhang Yun ran with his phone in hand, glancing at the data from time to time.

He discovered that a six-minute pace felt as effortless as a brisk walk. When he accelerated to a five-minute pace, he didn’t feel much of a change. Pushing it to a four-minute pace still felt like a light aerobic jog! It was only when he pushed harder, dropping his pace into the three-minute range, that he finally felt his breathing grow heavy and his heart rate spike. This thrilled Zhang Yun. He was just testing the waters. If he underwent systematic marathon training, wouldn’t he be able to go toe-to-toe with the African pros?

The undisputed kings of the marathon hailed from the East African plateaus of Kenya and Ethiopia, followed by their neighbors across the sea in Japan. China still had a significant gap to close. With so many domestic marathon events, they often became gold mines for second- and third-tier African runners.

Zhang Yun ran along the road toward home, fantasizing about becoming China’s top marathoner. He imagined crushing the African runners to claim the championship at major events in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Just as he was mentally drafting his acceptance speech, he was suddenly sandwiched between two trucks, one in front and one behind!
