Chapter 2596: Chapter 2596: Nagging (3)
"Xinxin, sometimes I really envy you." Jiang Fangfei looked at Yang Ruxin with a bitter smile, "You always say you’re just a village girl, but you’re brave and happy. Sometimes I think, if I were a village girl too, maybe I could be so free of doubt. After I leave you today, I will still be the Princess of Pingning County, noble beyond compare, graceful and sensible, but, God knows, I don’t really care about these things at all."
Jiang Fangfei rambled on intermittently.
Yang Ruxin just held her hand and listened, because she knew that at this moment, Jiang Fangfei didn’t need any advice, she was just feeling stifled and wanted to talk.
"I’m okay now." Finally, Jiang Fangfei took a deep breath, "Thank you for listening to me ramble for so long."
"Alright." Yang Ruxin released her hand and personally went to pour some water, "Wash your face."
After freshening up, Jiang Fangfei returned to her usual demeanor, "Xinxin, let me give you a heartfelt piece of advice, in the future, don’t let the three beans get entangled with the Imperial Family."
"They’re still young, besides, sometimes fate is something you really can’t control." Yang Ruxin was also helpless, "And anyhow, children have their own fortunes."
Jiang Fangfei knew she was worrying too early, so she nodded, "I’m leaving."
"I’ll have someone see you off." Yang Ruxin stood up with her.
"Okay." Jiang Fangfei didn’t refuse. She had brought servants out this time, but she’d sent them back when they reached the hotpot restaurant, leaving only Doukou; she wouldn’t joke about her own safety.
However, just as they reached the front door, they saw someone standing outside.
"Commander Wu? Why are you here?" Yang Ruxin looked at him in surprise, seeing that he had come alone with a carriage.
"Greetings to Madam Ruyi." Wu Zhaoyao was very grateful to Yang Ruxin; last time he was injured, and without her, he might not have recovered so well. He bowed, "I’m here to escort the princess back to the palace."
Yang Ruxin’s eyes flickered slightly.
"Was it the Emperor who sent you?" Jiang Fangfei, who had followed out, had her eyes light up, but then they dimmed again.
Wu Zhaoyao did not answer.
"Xinxin, with Commander Wu here, I’ll be fine." Jiang Fangfei glanced at Yang Ruxin, "Go back, the palace will probably hold a banquet in the next day or two. We’ll talk again when you enter the palace."
Yang Ruxin nodded and watched Jiang Fangfei board the carriage driven by Wu Zhaoyao and leave.
"Big sis, the princess is really pitiful." Erni had come over without Yang Ruxin noticing.
"Everyone has their own path to walk, there’s no real pity to it." Yang Ruxin smiled and then took Erni’s hand as they walked back, "Tonight, let’s have noodles with soybean paste. I suddenly feel like having it."
"Sure, I love whatever big sis makes, it’s just a shame big brother-in-law won’t get to eat it." Erni quickly moved on from Jiang Fangfei’s concerns and chatted with Yang Ruxin as they walked, "But we can save some for him, he can have it as a late-night snack when he comes back..."
Meanwhile, Jiang Fangfei, sitting in the carriage, appeared calm on the surface, but her heart was deeply conflicted.
Though Doukou knew her master’s thoughts, all she could do now was sigh silently.
The carriage had a faint fragrance, and unknowingly, the two of them fell asleep.
The carriage stopped at a very secluded place.
