The Fire Of Divinity

Chapter 44: Sitting Arrangement.

  • Next Chapter

The Small Bosses were sitting at the very edge of the formation. They sat in a circle, leaving the nine tables in the middle unoccupied.

The green-skinned Big Boss sat at one of the middle tables, leaving eight empty. As for why no Small Boss had decided to eat in the middle, he knew by now.

The situation wasn’t so bad that all 16 perimeter tables were full. Three tables were free, but they were on either side of the table with the human girl or Barnabas.

For some reason, the Small Bosses had left space between them and Barnabas and the person the human girl was sitting with. He noticed the seating pattern but didn’t think much of it because he had more important issues to deal with.

Before he could decide where to sit, the Apostle the human girl was sitting with raised his hand and called out, saying, "Hey, Alexander. Over here."

Alexander thought about the offer for a while before walking over, thinking, ’If only to tell him that what he is doing is wrong.’

The alternatives weren’t much better anyway. It was either a tablet beside the girl on the left, a tablet between the girl and Barnabas, or the table between Barnabas and the other Small Bosses.

He didn’t like her being on the second floor at all, and he definitely thought it would be torture to sit anywhere beside her. But at least this way, he could tell Robert off.

When he reached the table, Robert was saying, "This is my sister, Alexander. I brought her over yesterday."

Despite knowing her identity, Alexander didn’t hesitate to speak his mind. As he was sitting, he said, "She shouldn’t be here."

Robert said somewhat awkwardly, "I wanted to stay by my side, but I couldn’t stay on the first floor with so many people."

"Why would you want her to stay beside you all the time?" Alexander asked with a frown. "Don’t you want to eat her all the time?"

Inwardly, he asked himself, ’Is it just me? Is my hunger stronger than normal, or is my willpower weak?’

’It is probably because my hunger is stronger than normal. He didn’t fight yesterday and didn’t expend a lot of energy healing,’ he thought, consoling himself.

Robert shook his head as he said, "She is my sister. I will never eat her."

"Well, I could eat her," Alexander admitted openly. "So you bringing her here is endangering her."

But Robert smiled and said, "You’re joking."

"I have known you for a long time, so I know that you won’t do that. You were a calm and collected person before you transformed. And even though you’ve changed, you’ve only become calmer and more collected."

"Over the days we spent together in training, I’ve seen the extent of your control and restraint. You even motivated me to perform beyond my limit."

"From what I saw, I know that you’re not a person who succumbs to their instincts. So I don’t think you’ll eat her," Robert finished, chuckling.

Hearing this, Alexander sneered and said, "You overestimate me. And it isn’t by a little. You overestimate me a lot."

"If I get too hungry and there is nothing else to eat, I will eat her," he said sincerely, looking straight into Robert’s eyes to convey his sincerity.

In response, Robert shrugged and said, "It is fortunate then that we haven’t reached that point. You have options, so I don’t have anything to worry about."

Just then, some servants brought food, drawing their attention and ending the conversation. The food was a sheep on a tray.

The sheep was freshly killed. Its blood had pooled into the tray containing it. Aside from the cut on its neck, there was no other injury on its body.

It was a big sheep too. Four servants had to lift the tray and bring it over.

The servants brought the tray and placed it in front of Robert. During the process, neither Robert nor Alexander dwelled on the sheep. Their four eyes watched the servants, taking note of their physiques and tracking their every movement.

Even Barnabas had stopped eating his sheep and was looking at the servants. Apparently, the servants’ allure was greater than the sheep in front of him.

Only the three of them were looking at the servants. Usually, Apostles don’t pay attention to servants, so their behavior was considered odd. The other Apostles noticed this odd behavior and paused to see what the three of them would do.

The servants had also noticed the stares and were shaking in fear. They were normal people, with at most 5 anima in any attribute. Being stared at by four-eyed monsters with up to 30 anima in each attribute, like they were a piece of food, made them afraid for their lives.

Fortunately, the three of them only stared. They didn’t act, even when the servants turned their backs and ran away. At most, their tongues extended as they considered giving chase.

The servants were satisfied with this outcome and sighed in relief. But many Small Bosses were disappointed. As for the Big Bosses, he frowned, but said nothing.

After the servants left, Robert licked his lips and said, "I would offer you some, but I don’t want to share."

"I know," Alexander said, staring at the still-warm sheep. "I would be surprised and suspicious if you offered me some of your food."

Hearing this, Robert chuckled. Then he bent down and took a bite of his meal.

At first, he tried to restrain himself. But he quickly lost his restraint and buried his face in the sheep.

Alexander swallowed hungrily when he saw this. For a while, he didn’t know which was worse: being alone with a little girl or being within reach of food he could eat without punishment.

For a flesh titan, there was no essential difference between a normal human and a sheep. For low-level treats like them, only quantity and freshness mattered.
