The First Legendary Beast Master

Chapter 1857: On The Bright Side

Chapter 1857: On The Bright Side

The Black Dragon Avatar was waiting the moment that Karl returned to the Tiny World, and Karl had a feeling that the dragon already knew the answers to most of the questions that he was going to ask.

Most likely just to see if Karl was going to try to lie to him.

"Well, now that you’ve caused enough commotion that half the region has noticed, what exactly was it that you were trying to do?"

Karl smiled. "I created a new spell. Well, new to me. It’s a combination of a few different abilities that I already had, using [Skill Merger].

The name that the System gave it was [Blade of Divine Wrath]."

He had expected the Avatar to at least have the decency to pretend to be shocked and amazed, but he did not.

"So, you activated the [Blade of Divine Wrath] inside the store, around customers?

That’s an interesting choice.

On the bright side, you didn’t accidentally smite someone who was upset at your pricing. But I must say, you really do know how to cause a commotion."

"That was not my intention. Besides, our prices are completely fair. If we don’t offer a premium because an item is rare and in demand, we use the System valuation to determine the prices.

It’s all in the search for knowledge, you see. A Guild that strives to do anything should be willing to purchase everything.

Honestly, the blue dragon should be a bigger fan of us than he is."

That made the black dragon avatar laugh, a real, honest laugh.

"I will give you that one. There is a lot of new information to gather whenever the World Dragon calls on a new Avatar. I see that you do have a Librarian here, but I strongly suspect that he is heavily overworked, and even his journal is beginning to fall behind by now."

"Oh, good point, I have new skills that I need to find a way to donate to the Library. Making Skill books for Peerless Grade skills isn’t really practical, and only me or you could actually use the skill, so I can’t just teach it to him or one of the Inscriptionists."

"You use [Ancient Wisdom] to allow the Inscriptionists to copy a skill book? I suppose that’s valid."

"Oh, that’s a great idea. I’ve been using [Follow Me, Little One], but then they have to be compatible. If I use [Ancient Wisdom] it’s much more flexible, even if it is temporary.

We actually use [Ancient Wisdom] as a Guild Skill for the branch, since it’s so convenient to just grant the whole group one super overpowered ability for an outing.

Or give a whole bunch of assistants a crafting skill for the day."

The Black Dragon sighed. "Now I understand what is going wrong here.

How many skills do you think that your average Guild Member needs?"

Karl shrugged. "I asked the leader of our Drodh branch, and she said all of them."

"Is she a blue dragon?"

"Maybe."

Lotus began to giggle uncontrollably, while the Black Dragon smiled.

"There is no other acceptable answer to a blue dragon. They must know all the things. If I didn’t know better, I would think that young Yewan was one of them. He also feels a strong urge to know all the things at the same time."

Karl saw that that dragon was asleep next to Lotus, who was currently making dinner on the open grill by the lake, where everyone else had chosen to sit for the evening.

"He fell asleep in the middle of a question, didn’t he? My first thought was that being born in here, he might have been cut off from some essential types of inherited knowledge, but that doesn’t seem to apply to the others."

The Avatar shook his head. "With Nachtia here, who has obtained the inheritance of a Mythic Rank ancient black dragon, he shouldn’t be missing any sort of genetic memory.

Even if he was, it would naturally fill from her presence near him."

"I didn’t even know that was a thing that dragons could do. Quite convenient, really."

"Though it does make me wonder if he’s forgotten that he can access it. There are so many questions."

Karl chuckled, and Lotus smiled fondly at the little dragon.

"I don’t think that he’s lacking inherent memories. Everything he asks about is something that wouldn’t normally happen to a dragon his age. So, he’s just curious," Lotus informed them.

"Did you happen to make any other skills that the Librarian and I should know about?" The avatar asked.

"Well, there were a couple. There was [Army of Nature’s Vengeance], which is pretty good, but a lot of mana. Five thousand mana per summon and they only last an hour. Then I made [Guard Pets], which is more mana friendly. That one I can create a proper army of summons with.

Then I already told you about [Blade of Divine Wrath], and there was one failure."

"A failure with [Spell Merger]? That’s odd. Normally, you just need to keep trying to find the right balance until something comes up. I’m told that there are as many skills as there are possible combinations."

Karl shook his head. "No, the spell formed, but it’s unusable. [Army of Badgers] is apparently a Forbidden spell."

"For a very good reason." The Black Dragon agreed.

Cara transformed to humanoid, and came to confront him.

"And why is that? An army of badgers would be spectacular. What better army could there be? Badgers can do anything."

The Black Dragon chuckled. "I am told that the Order Gods petitioned to get the spell declared a War Crime, but that was before my time."

Cara rolled her eyes. "How bad could it possibly be? It will let him summon an army of Spirit Bear Tyrants, and they’re immune to physical attacks."

"And how likely are they to do something that disrupts spacetime or rob their enemies?"

"Don’t be silly, they can’t use [Chaos Vortex] or [Spatial Quake]. Plus, they don’t have thumbs. Besides, I’m just getting started on the nasty spells. Wait until I figure out how to combine [Spatial Quake] and [Soul Harvest]."
