The First Legendary Beast Master

Chapter 1863: The Slow Team

Chapter 1863: The Slow Team

Rae [Shadow Stepped] away from the cavern wall as the worm tried to crush her again, and laughed as the creature’s massive bulk was torn apart by spiders.

It was good to see so many of the Goddess’ chosen working together.

Much better than her two Golems.

The worm might think of itself as a grand boss of this place, but it was nothing more than food for the spiders today. It was just a shame that it didn’t taste better.

Rae was determined that she would one day find the way to use that spell, but even being bonded with Karl, she still couldn’t. It was stupid, she was a spider, they were spiders, they fought amazingly well together.

But she couldn’t cast the spell.

This was open bullying, and she was not going to stand for it. Where was the option to file a formal complaint?

While Rae was complaining about the unfairness of the System, Dana was more concerned with why the Oathbreaker Demons were suddenly so enthusiastic about killing this Manticore.

Sure, they always loved a fight. But this was more than that.

They seemed to be in a rush to get the boss down, despite the fact that their skills were literally designed for large group battles. The Oathbreaker Demon did area damage, spreading their attacks to every enemy nearby.

So, their total output in a massive battle would be hundreds of times higher than their single target damage.

The miners didn’t care. The Darklight Host team was not only holding off the boss, they had managed to keep the others from coming to reinforce it, and the mining operations were moving along at an exceptionally smooth pace.

They had nearly gotten everything in the first hallway, and now if they could bypass the boss, they could start moving to a new area.

Dana caught on right away when the mining team started to get close to them, and silently ordered her Golems to push the boss down the side tunnel a way.

"Keep clearing the shaft. That direction should be clear, all three bosses are accounted for," She explained.

"The other man and the spider horde have both other bosses contained?"

Dana nodded. "Trust the process. Karl’s power is not something that any average Void Immortal can compare to."

That didn’t mean much to them, given that the bosses were peak Immortals. But the trusted that Dana would have said something if her husband was losing and at risk of dying.

"Dammit. Still not fast enough," Oathbreaker shouted as he wailed on the boss with all four swords.

The Manticore was clearly on its last legs, and the back of the Mining team couldn’t help but marvel at the fact that the Darklight Host had managed to actually get a team that could kill a Peak Immortal boss so quickly.

This dungeon was actually considered to be a very easy one for its power level, as there were no monsters but the three bosses.

It was just that assembling a team was not easy at that power level.

The Manticore died a few seconds later, and one of the mining team members rushed over to talk to Dana, as the spokesperson for the group now that Karl wasn’t around.

"What boss will you be going to next? If possible, we would like one speaking Golem or a team member left behind so that we can get the warning if one of the bosses breaks free."

Dana gave him a sad smile, and Elder Alix patted the miner on the shoulder.

"My friend, I have good news and bad news for you." Elder Alix began. "First, you are going to have all the time that you need to clear out the dungeon today. That’s the good news."

"And the bad news?"

"We were the slowest of the three dungeon boss teams, and the other two will have started digging now that we’ve got the last boss down."

The miner didn’t believe it at first. But then the System Message came through.

{Dungeon Complete} Calculating rewards. Dungeon closes in 23 hours.

"Crap. We agreed that the Darklight Host could start mining as soon as the bosses died. Normally, we’d have another half hour before the team fighting was exhausted, or the bosses teamed up on them.

Now, we’ve got to rush, or they’re going to clear the place with a hundred bloody golems before we can mine anything."

Dana laughed, and Oathbreaker shrugged. He had zero talent for finding veins of ore.

Perhaps if you gave him a shovel, he would be good at digging them up, but mining was not in his talent pool. All that he could hope to do was find something on the surface and hope that it led to more.

But the Darklight Host also hadn’t gone to any lengths to find a map of the ore nodes within this dungeon before they arrived.

Mostly, they were relying on Tian, as he had very good earth affinity.

But Karl had gotten all those Dryads, and while they were nature and not earth affinity, once their vines were in the stone, they could get a decent idea of what the composition was.

And that would let them make an educated guess as to whether it would be worth digging up.

Fortunately for Oathbreaker, not only did Tian have high earth affinity, he also had shovels.

He could dig perfectly well with [Earth Manipulation], but not everyone had the skill, and he had come prepared. Technically, he made them with magic about ten seconds ago, but that had to count, right?

As long as the tools existed before anyone else realized that they needed them, it had to be good enough to count as prepared.

Tian began to hand out the shovels, and point to various spots in a side tunnel, away from where the main group was working. This was an alliance, and alliances meant not being bullies. So, they would work everywhere that the other team wasn’t.

As long as the mining team could work freely until everything was cleared out that was worth taking, then they had done a perfect job of their duties as partners.

At least, that was Tian’s take on it.
