The First Legendary Beast Master

Chapter 1870: Feed The Behemoth

Chapter 1870: Feed The Behemoth

The second course of the meal was a variety of sweet and spicy so that you could cycle between them and not get overwhelmed. But Lotus had served it with honey butter soaked cornbread muffins, which woke up the behemoths the moment that they entered the meal.

They were twenty metres away, asleep in another room with the door closed, and the smell still brought all the hatchlings running out of their nest to see what the trouble was.

Along with one irate little red dragon, who had actually been enjoying her nap in the pile of behemoths.

"Oh, you’re hungry, are you? Here, try these. Pick the ones that smell best."

Lotus set out a bit of every dish that they were serving, along with the salad, and laughed as the dragon ignored everything but the honey glazed meat.

That was obviously the superior option in her mind.

But the others attacked the muffins with a ferocity that startled the other guests.

"Well, I think we found the favourite food of baby behemoths." Tessa laughed.

The boys were shoulder shoving each other, trying to subtly shift everyone away from the food so they could get more, but only succeeding in causing the group to circle the plate.

It was amusing to watch, like a bunch of puppies who were all absolutely certain that they would never be fed again, despite the fact that they would be fed once more in about an hour.

But this was the first actual meal for the hatchlings, and Tessa was watching carefully to make sure that there were no issues with the meal.

Nobody actually knew what they could safely eat, after all.

For Seraphina, it was fairly obvious. Dragons ate meat.

But for the Behemoths? They weren’t even a species that anyone had seen before, though they were familiar enough to the Black Dragon Avatar that he wasn’t too concerned about them needing to eat something exotic to survive.

However, as they continued, the problem seemed to be the opposite.

The Behemoths would gladly eat anything vaguely edible that was put in front of them, and they were growing at a visible pace. By the time that they had finished consuming what had to be twice their own body mass in muffins and salad, they were clearly larger than their sister.

That rate of growth was far beyond what anyone expected, and even Thor was a little concerned that they might outgrow the Tiny World’s ability to feed them.

There was a reason there weren’t many behemoths in existence.

However, he did have a skill that would help them. [Unobtrusive Behemoth] would reduce their size until they could learn an equivalent skill, and the reduced size body needed less food to keep it going.

That was most of the reason why Thor remained in humanoid form, instead of a mount sized behemoth. The human body was easier to keep fed, and he could eat at the table with his wife.

That was an important consideration, as meal times were often the only point in the day when they could both sit and relax together other than when they were about to sleep. It was making Thor appreciate a bit more why Karl and the Dana Mage used to sneak off together.

"Do you think that they’re going to be able to transform into humanoids soon?" Elder Alix asked as the behemoths fell into a food coma, with their heads still on the plate.

"It shouldn’t be long. Going by their growth and Leo’s, as he is also a giant species, I would say that in under half a year they’ll be at the stage that they’ll be ready to start school."

The Elder smiled. "That should be fun. There aren’t enough new kids at the Academy these days, and seeing a whole batch of identical brothers should have the young ladies getting envious."

Tessa laughed. "You intend to parade the children around to cause baby fever among the Immortals?"

"Of course not. I was hoping that you’d do it for me."

Thor chuckled. Of course, he would take the kids off to show them off. He was very proud of his hatchlings, and they were going to grow into exceedingly powerful little behemoths.

If he didn’t show them off, how could he live with himself?

Tessa had been intending to have them join the other hatchlings at the Orphanage for most of their training, but the thought of sending them to the Academy for further training wasn’t all that bad either.

They could learn a lot from an Immortal Academy that they couldn’t in the Tiny World.

Mostly things that they wouldn’t truly need, as they were beasts and not humans who needed to memorize the basics of a Fundamental Rule manually.

But still, it was valuable information.

There was a lot more than the basics of the Fundamental Rule that could be learned. Knowing what the rule was and how it worked didn’t always translate to knowing how to use it well in practical situations.

Beasts were better than humans at that, but they also tended to be very limited in the ways that they learned to use their rules.

Letting the Behemoths learn independently would give them an excellent chance to get either a unique class, or learn skills that no other could hope to use.

The [Eternal Lightning Barrier] that Thor used was hard enough for others that even the Blue Dragons had given up on it being widely known. But the hatchlings had an even better version of it, from what she could tell.

It had elements of Holy Magic in it that had the feeling of the Divine, and not the Mortal Holy magic that Eternal Lightning did.

Perhaps because of the nature of the Tiny World, or because of the Skill that Karl had used on the Tiny World. But it was distinctly different from their father’s skill. It also didn’t seem to shock anyone who touched them, which was startling.

Yet, Thor suspected that they simply didn’t view anyone that they had met as a threat.

All things are friends until proven otherwise was a very Cerro type logic that he was certain they had inherited.
