The First Legendary Beast Master
Chapter 2087: Subtle But Elegant
After a few minutes, Tian held up the the first sketch of the spear design.
"What do you think of this? It’s got your emblem on the handle in gold, highlighting with the white metal, but not changing the grip shape. Then, the spear itself will be in a golden metal, for maximum shininess.
And because it has the best compatibility with holy magic.
If you like it I can get started on it right away. If not, I can make some changes."
The Legend stared at the spear, and marvelled at the little Fox’s artistic ability.
"That is amazing. Subtle enough that they can use it daily, as well as on parade. I see that you’ve given options for the blade as well, since Paladins fight from mounts as well as from the ground."
Tian actually hadn’t known that. He had been thinking about enemies with different weapons and different kinds of hide, not from horseback or from the ground. But now that he saw it in that perspective, it was actually quite appropriate for the Paladin’s needs.
"We have runes that can adjust the length too, if you want to use them as long spears from the second rank of a shield line, or for better clearing from a mount," Tian added.
They had done that for Tessa’s spear.
"That would be excellent. The Paladins get a spell called [Charger] that creates a mount for them to ride.
Most don’t actually use it much, since the mount is actually rather slow. But it’s quite durable, and puts you above the rank and file, so you can see and direct the battle more easily without flying. I’m not sure why it still creates a horse type mount in the Immortal Realms, but I suspect that it’s simply a holdover from the Mortal Realm Paladin skills."
Tian nodded. "Probably. I don’t recall any of the ones in the Mortal Realm using them, but I know that they had the skill. I think that mounted combat simply fell by the wayside when there weren’t enough Paladins to form full orders of them for cavalry charges."
That actually made a lot of sense to Eryman.
If you got the Paladin Class and weren’t part of a holy order, just an adventurer or part of a warrior based Clan, wouldn’t you just be a warrior with healing? That was a huge waste of the Paladin’s unique skills.
The class skills were designed to work together in a group of other Paladins, to substitute for what they would normally gain from having other Classes around.
The Church would never send them with Rogues, there was no point in sending them with warriors, and many of the warrior gods didn’t work well with mages, so it was up to the order they belonged to whether their battles were more than just Paladins and Clerics.
His order did work well with mages, for the most part.
There was just some lingering issues with the God of Magic and the other human Gods.
The God of magic was a human, born mortal and ascended to Godhood through pure force of magical power. So, he was the one that most mages followed. But he was not part of the same Pantheon as the other Human Gods.
He belonged to the Creator’s Pantheon, with the Laughing God, the World Dragon, and a collection of Demihuman Gods.
The Laughing God was another sore point for the humans. He was one of them once, it was rumoured. But his nature saw him expelled for his actions, and the others never forgave him. So, his presence in another pantheon dug up old resentment, and it led to a grudge between their followers.
"Well, they’re still popular among my team." Eryman began. They use them when on guard duty in the city, though my personal guard don’t do that anymore. It’s more ceremonial than anything. But a design that works for both is best, just in case.
Staying with that design is fine. I don’t see any issues with it, it’s not too gaudy for combat. But I think we will go for this blade style here.
As Paladins, a bit of elegance matters, but I still want them to be able to pierce large monsters, so the shorter spear head is out."
The blade he had mentioned was the longer double sided spearhead. Almost like a short sword, and not as vicious looking as some of the others. A bit less practical, as it wasn’t designed to disarm enemies. But if they were mostly fighting monsters, then that part didn’t matter.
"Alright, I can start on it now. Once we get the base weapons made, the rest won’t take too long. I just need some time at the forge to actually make the higher grade items, they’re beyond my [Earth Manipulation] skill to forge directly."
Eryman looked jealous at that revelation. A divine smith, with Earth Manipulation as a racial trait, was a true powerhouse of the crafting world. But the little fox made it sound so casual, as if he was limited by having to do what everyone else did.
"The forges are in the other room upstairs, please follow us if you want to watch." Rue informed the group.
The guards turned to Eryman, who waved them away.
"Go have fun, run the dungeon or something. I will still be here when you get back. Twenty spears won’t be finished before you do a dungeon run, no matter how good they are."
He had a point there, it was going to take Tian hours to get the metal ready for shaping with his magic. And there weren’t many dungeon instances that took more than two hours to complete. The real trick would be finding groups for ten Supreme Ranked Paladins.
That was a lot of Clan Leaders to assemble.
However, they had a plan, and they were already calling allies to come fill the groups with them, so they could try out this Supreme Ranked dungeon that could vary the difficulty.
If they were lucky, the boss would let them stay here a few days, and really test it.
