The Fragrance of My Hot Patients
Chapter 347
Chapter 347: Chapter 347
Helping Chenyang clear his name was no easy task.
By this point, the matter was no longer a personal grudge between Chenyang and Lin Jiji. It had escalated into a collective crusade, with countless fans attacking Chenyang to protect Lin Jiji.
Furthermore, the interests of the hospital, relevant Yang City authorities, and some of the victims of the car crash were also at stake.
Neither the fans’ attacks nor the pressure from the hospital and the authorities was something Chenyang could resolve on his own.
He needed backing, and extremely powerful backing at that.
Before Yan Rongrong’s arrival, the assistant was the only source of powerful backing he could find.
Because of this, the assistant could hold a significant advantage in this negotiation, allowing her to easily manipulate and exploit Chenyang.
But with Yan Rongrong’s arrival, most of that advantage had vanished in an instant!
Because Yan Rongrong’s father was the Chief of Police.
As one of the most powerful officials in Yang City, if he was willing to help, he could eliminate most of the pressure on Chenyang from the government and the hospital.
Moreover, Yan Rongrong was close friends with the owner of a media company.
Given the concern Yan Rongrong was currently showing for Chenyang, she would surely do everything in her power to get that media company to help him issue a clarification.
In this way, both the pressure from the authorities and the issue of online public opinion could be resolved.
And the only bargaining chip the assistant had left to negotiate with Chenyang was getting Lin Jiji to come forward herself!
Of course, this was by far the thorniest part of the entire affair.
After all, as long as Lin Jiji didn’t come forward to clarify—willingly or otherwise—the uproar from her fans alone would be enough to keep Chenyang in a terrible position, even without pressure from the hospital and the government.
At that point, getting fired from the hospital would be a minor issue; being unable to make a living in Yang City or practice medicine ever again would be the real disaster.
The assistant was convinced that someone like Chenyang, who came from a poor background and had worked so hard to land a secure job at the City Hospital, would never give it up easily. Therefore, he would have to agree to cooperate with her.
At this thought, a triumphant smile appeared on the assistant’s face.
Seeing her expression, Chenyang smiled knowingly. "You look pretty confident. You think I have no other options, that my only path forward is to cooperate with you, right?"
The assistant shrugged. "General Manager Yan can help you, but I’m the only one who can handle the most crucial step.
If you work with me, you’ll face some risks, but you’ll at least keep your job and be able to stay in Yang City. If you don’t, you’ll lose that secure job as a doctor. A position like that couldn’t have been easy for you to get. I don’t think you’d give it up lightly."
Chenyang smiled. "Being a doctor is my dream."
"So, you’re agreeing to work with me?"
"No!"
The assistant faltered. "Why?"
"Because my dream doesn’t have to be achieved at the City Hospital. I’m a skilled doctor—I’d say I’m pretty good, actually. If I want to, I can build a career and achieve my dream somewhere else."
"Yes, you could leave. You could walk away from all this trouble. But can you really stand to leave while covered in all the filth Lin Jiji has thrown at you?"
Chenyang smiled. "Of course I’m not happy about it. But leaving with a grudge would only be a small regret in my life. Staying here means facing your company’s insane retaliation. Forget being a doctor—I’d be lucky to get out of it alive."
"I..."
The assistant was suddenly at a loss for words.
’Once Lin Jiji goes down, the company is sure to retaliate viciously.’
’She’d been with the company for years; she knew the nature of the executives and the boss. If someone uprooted their biggest cash cow, Lin Jiji, they’d get desperate enough to actually resort to murder.’
’So what’s a little resentment compared to your own life?’
’The assistant had to admit to herself that Chenyang’s choice was the right one.’
’But if he made that choice, her own goals would be impossible to achieve.’
She couldn’t bear to let the plan she had so carefully crafted fall apart. After a brief pause, her previous confidence and arrogance vanished. Swallowing her pride, she asked, "What will it take for you to agree to work with me?"
"To be honest, I don’t want to work with you. We don’t know each other, and the help you’re offering isn’t all that significant. Besides, you don’t have to come to me. If you want revenge on Lin Jiji, why not just find someone else to leak the evidence to the media?"
"There are too many uncertainties with anyone else. With you, I can avoid most of the risks. We have a common goal. You won’t betray me, and you’re in the best position to help."
With that, the assistant took a deep breath, her expression earnest. "Mr. Chen, I truly hope you’ll agree to work with me."
"I can agree. But like I said, this isn’t a partnership; it’s a transaction. And if it’s a transaction, you’re going to have to offer me terms that are actually tempting!"
