The official saw Doctor Liu’s hesitation and said with a smile, “I’m here to investigate and solve problems, not to judge anyone unfairly because of some online rumors. I can’t be certain whether Doctor Chen did the things being said about him online. But I can see with my own eyes that despite being at the center of this controversy, he is still focused on saving a patient. For that reason alone, I have no intention of doing anything to him.”

Doctor Liu gave a dry laugh. “My apologies, Sir. It’s not that I was intentionally hiding anything from you, it’s just…”

“I understand.”

The official waved his hand. “But there is one thing I’m doubtful about, and I hope you can help clear it up for me.”

Doctor Liu said hurriedly, “Please, ask away. I’ll tell you everything I know, without holding anything back!”

“Can traditional Chinese medicine really save this critically ill patient?”

“I believe so. At least, I believe Doctor Chen can.”

“Oh? I heard this Doctor Chen just recently started at your City Hospital. What gives you so much confidence in him?”

Although Doctor Liu was just a doctor, she understood a few things about how officialdom worked.

She knew very well that you couldn’t take the words of these officials at face value.

For instance, right now, he appeared to be asking why she trusted Chenyang so much, but in reality, he was indirectly inquiring about Chenyang’s skills and character.

This would have an indirect bearing on the subsequent investigation.

Well-versed in these matters, Doctor Liu didn’t dare to speak carelessly. She took a moment to organize her thoughts before saying, “Sirs, it’s true that Doctor Chen only recently joined our City Hospital. In fact, today is the first time I’ve worked with him. However, I’ve heard quite a bit about him.

Yesterday at the hospital, Doctor Chen treated a patient who was also one of the victims from the car accident. His injuries weren’t serious at first, but after arriving at the hospital, he suddenly fell into a coma. We ran multiple tests but couldn’t determine the specific cause.

Even after a consultation with our Vice Dean Kang and several cardiology and thoracic surgery experts, we couldn’t reach a definitive conclusion. In the end, it was Doctor Chen who identified the problem in a single stroke. With conventional Western medical treatment, the success rate for curing the patient’s illness would have been only twenty percent. But using traditional Chinese medicine, Doctor Chen pulled the patient back from death’s door with no risk at all.”

Hearing this, the officials all showed surprise. A peculiar expression also appeared on the stunningly beautiful woman’s face, and her gaze drifted involuntarily toward the busy Chenyang.

Doctor Liu continued, “Furthermore, according to my department head, Doctor Chen was the first to arrive at the accident scene. He also treated the most patients. More importantly, there were several injured individuals who wouldn’t have made it to the hospital in time and were beyond help with the on-site medical resources.

To put it bluntly, they had practically been declared dead. But just as everyone was about to give up with reluctance and regret, Doctor Chen stepped forward. He used traditional Chinese medicine techniques to save them. As a result, apart from those who died instantly in the crash, not a single one of the subsequently injured victims has died!”

“This Doctor Chen is a hero, a true angel in white,” the official couldn’t help but praise. His gaze then turned toward Chenyang in the ambulance, a complex look in his eyes.

Doctor Liu quickly added, “Doctor Chen is a brilliant doctor and a good person. Those things being said online are all falsely accusing him.”

“Whether they’re false accusations or not is something we’ll only know after an investigation.”

“That’s right. Being highly skilled doesn’t mean he has a good character. As the old saying goes, you can know a person’s face, but not their heart. Until there’s concrete evidence, a question mark will continue to hang over his head.”

After hearing the officials’ words, Doctor Liu wanted to say a few more good things in Chenyang’s defense.

But just as the words were on the tip of her tongue, a series of screams erupted from nearby.

“Brother Ji is here! Everyone, make way for him!”

Everyone turned toward the sound and saw Lin Jiji being supported by his driver, limping in from outside.

As he drew closer, the fans who had been blocking the ambulance parted like they were welcoming an emperor, creating a path for him. Their faces were filled with adoration… no, with an almost sycophantic reverence, as if they wanted to kneel and lick his boots.

Seeing this, the leading city official sneered, “How ironic. These people have no pity or sympathy for a critically ill patient. They blocked the ambulance, obstructing the path of life-saving medical care. But now, when they see some actor who has made no contribution to society, they not only clear a path for him but also swarm around him protectively.”

As he spoke, he looked at the cadres beside him. “For something so disgraceful to happen here in Yang City is a failure on our part. It is the greatest sorrow for us, the officials responsible for Yang City!”
