Chapter 444: Chapter 444

Chenyang’s refusal didn’t cause the slightest change in Sister Rose’s expression.

It was as if she had expected this all along.

She smiled at Chenyang. "You’re refusing me for one of two reasons. The first is that you don’t trust me. You think Lin Jiji and I are on the same side. He sees you as an enemy, so you figure I should be helping him get revenge and plot against you. Am I right?"

Chenyang shrugged. "And why wouldn’t I? As far as your relationship goes, you’re his agent and you both work for the same company. To put it bluntly, you’re in it together. And looking at it from a profit angle, he’s an artist under your management—practically your personal cash cow.

I didn’t just humiliate him; I might even get him blacklisted or sent to prison. That’s the same as cutting off your revenue stream.

The old saying goes, ’Cutting off someone’s livelihood is like murdering their parents.’ We should have an irreconcilable grudge between us now, so how could you possibly come to me with a sincere offer for a deal?"

"So you see the deal I’m proposing as a trap I’ve laid for you? You won’t agree because you’re afraid I’ll toss you in and bury you!"

"That’s right. But let me correct you on one thing: it’s not that I don’t *dare* to agree, it’s that there’s no *need* to. After all, I’m not stupid. I’m not going to jump into a pit that I know you’ve dug for me."

"Hahaha!"

Seeing Sister Rose suddenly burst out laughing, Chenyang raised an eyebrow. "What are you laughing at?"

"Before I came here, I thought Lin Jiji’s loss was a bit unfair. You’re just a doctor, and no matter how far he’s fallen, he’s still a big celebrity. But now, I suddenly feel that he deserved to be taken down by you. It wasn’t unfair at all.

Your intelligence and the thoroughness of your thoughts go far beyond your years. For that, I am willing to apologize for underestimating you before."

"Heh. No need for such empty words."

Sister Rose’s expression turned serious. "I’m speaking from the heart, without a hint of false flattery. Or perhaps I should say, I wouldn’t deign to waste insincere words on a doctor like you.

In my eyes—the eyes of Rose Wen—there is no male or female, no ugly or beautiful, no good or bad. There is only strong and weak.

I admire the strong, I appreciate the strong, and I’m willing to give my all for the strong. As for the weak, I have always disdained and scorned them!"

Chenyang said sarcastically, "So by your logic, Lin Jiji counts as one of the strong?"

"Going from a complete nobody to one of the hottest celebrities in just over two years—wouldn’t you call that strength?"

"Heh. He just got ridiculously lucky. Without that stroke of luck and without your help, with his disposition and abilities, the only role he could fucking land as an extra would be a corpse!"

Pfft!

Sister Rose couldn’t help but snort with laughter. "Looks like you really do hate Lin Jiji’s guts."

"He slandered me, smeared my name, and even tried to destroy me. Shouldn’t I hold a grudge against him?"

"You should."

Sister Rose didn’t deny it. She nodded, but then quickly shook her head. "What Lin Jiji did to you was certainly hateful,

and I’ll admit that he’s lecherous, greedy, cowardly, and selfish. But those are just his flaws. When we evaluate a person—or their strength and weakness—we can’t just look at their faults."

"Are you trying to say that Lin Jiji isn’t as pathetic as I think he is?"

"Exactly."

Sister Rose pursed her lips into a smile and spoke bluntly. "When I first met Lin Jiji, he was just a lackey doing odd jobs. His family was poor, he had no house, no car, and no girlfriend. He only made fifty or sixty a day, yet he lived in an apartment that cost over two thousand a month and ate fine food from big restaurants. Do you know how he managed that?"

Chenyang raised an eyebrow. "A rich woman was keeping him?"

"More or less. Not in the official sense of being kept, but he was indeed spending a woman’s money."

"So you think getting himself kept is one of his strengths?"

"Isn’t it? He’s not that handsome, and he’s not very talented. To put it bluntly, he couldn’t even satisfy a rich woman in *that* department. Yet he still managed to win her patronage as a lowly crew lackey. Isn’t that a strength?"

Sister Rose paused for a moment before continuing, "Also, even though he was just a lackey, on every film set, practically no one—from the assistant director down to the other staff—dared to cross him.

Anyone who underestimated him at first ended up getting beaten by him. And among any group of people who started working on the crew at the same time as him, he always managed to come out on top, whether through sucking up or by using cunning plots.

Perhaps those methods are unorthodox and can’t be presented in polite company, but for an observer, the results are always more important than the journey, aren’t they?

It’s like this: two doctors graduate at the same time. After two years of slogging through the trenches, one doctor has become exceptionally skilled, but he just buries his head in his office work. He has no patients and remains obscure.

The other has only average medical skills, yet he’s able to use his connections and schemes to have countless patients breaking down his door, begging him for treatment. If it were you, which one would you want to be?"
