When Sister Rose said he was completely finished, she wasn’t just talking about Lin Jiji’s career or his life being ruined. She meant the man himself was broken.

Of course, being broken didn’t mean he was going to die.

It meant that it would be hard for him to ever find the confidence to go on.

As the old saying goes, it’s the spirit that keeps a man going.

This spirit is the fire in one’s heart. In terms of traditional Chinese medicine, it’s also called one’s heart’s blood.

When a person faces hardship and setbacks, as long as this fire doesn’t go out and this blood isn’t lost, they can still pull through.

But if, under immense pressure, that fire is extinguished and they spit out that blood, they become a soulless, walking corpse, devoid of all vigor.

Even if they’re still alive, there’s nothing left to hope for.

Seeing Sister Rose’s expression, Chenyang teased, “What? Feeling sorry for him?”

“He’s not worthy of my pity. I just find it a bit surreal. After all, just yesterday he was boasting to me about how he was going to ruin your reputation. He planned to use the momentum from crushing you to completely capture Lin Xiaoyue’s heart. Then, he’d ride the wave of publicity from their relationship to become an A-list star. But who would have thought that just one night later, he would be the one left in disgrace. And his connection to Lin Xiaoyue, far from helping him, ended up being the last straw!”

Chenyang’s lips curved upward. “The heavens punish the wild; arrogance invites disaster. Lin Jiji got exactly what he deserved!”

“He did deserve it,” Sister Rose said with a sigh. “To be honest, I predicted this would happen someday. I just never thought that day would come so soon.”

“His downfall must have caused you a pretty big loss, right?”

“To be honest, the losses are significant, but it doesn’t really change anything. If I can build up one Lin Jiji, I can just as easily build up other Li Jijis and Wang Jijis. To me, it doesn’t matter who the artist is, or if they’re good or bad. As long as I’m around, the company will never lack for artists of his caliber.”

“Badass!”

Chenyang gave Sister Rose a thumbs-up, then raised his chin. “Since you’re so capable, how about you make me a star?”

“You?”

“That’s right. When it comes to looks, I’m not any worse than Lin Jiji, am I? As for charm, I’d say I’m better than him! And acting, singing, all that… I’m not very good, but looking at that guy, he probably wasn’t much better than me anyway.”

“It wouldn’t be hard to package you, but I can see that your ambitions don’t lie with a career as a star.”

Chenyang narrowed his eyes. “You’ve only known me for a short while. What makes you so sure?”

Sister Rose’s red lips curved into a slight smile. “I knew what kind of person you were before I even met you, just from hearing about what you’d done. If your ambitions lay elsewhere, you wouldn’t have needed to go to all this trouble over Lin Jiji slandering you. With your skills, you could have found a much easier way to clear your name. Even if you failed, you could have simply left. But you didn’t! Instead, you stayed, taking a huge risk to go head-to-head with a massive, popular star! Combine that with the details of the incident and the fact you just saved someone despite being in a predicament yourself, and it’s not hard to guess your motive. You didn’t go to all this trouble for your personal reputation, but for the honor of being a doctor. That’s why your true ambition lies in medicine!”

Chenyang shot Sister Rose an annoyed glance. “A smart woman is charming, but a woman who’s *too* smart, like you, can easily be disliked.”

‘What Sister Rose said was indeed the truth!’

‘Chenyang’s greatest dream was to be a good doctor!’

‘And the path he was on, the one to his dream, was indeed the path of medicine!’

‘As for everything else, it wasn’t that he had no interest, but it all had to take a backseat to his path as a doctor.’

Sister Rose smiled. “Only weak women rely on cleverness to win a man’s affection. I, on the other hand, only use my power to conquer men like you.”

“Heh. That little bit of power might be enough to conquer other men, but me? I’m afraid you’re still a little wet behind the ears.”

“Wet behind the ears or not, one has to try it to know.”

As she spoke, a suggestive smile played on Sister Rose’s lips. “Doctor Chen, do you dare to give it a try with me?”

Chenyang froze for a second, clearly not expecting Sister Rose to dare provoke and seduce him so openly.

‘No man can resist a woman who takes the initiative to seduce him.’

‘And when challenged by a beautiful woman, no man would ever admit defeat!’

So he immediately shot back, “Go get a hotel room, get yourself clean, and wait for me!!”
