Chapter 1254: Chapter 846: Upheaval

Below the walls of Blood Pit Fortress.

The faint light of dawn struggled to pierce through the sulfur-laden smoke, casting its rays onto the devastated battlefield.

The constant clamor of the battle had finally subsided, leaving behind a suffocating silence and an appalling mess.

This demon wave retreat was somewhat different than before—aside from the remnants completely incinerated by Night Watchers’ alchemy creations, there were heaps, like small mountains, of demon corpses in various shapes.

In previous wars, as the main force was still the Night Watchers, the demons they killed would turn to dust.

Thus, the battlefield cleanup was relatively simple, focusing mainly on processing friendly corpses.

But this time was evidently different.

Most corpses belonged to the Abyss elites that followed the newly risen evil god "Master of Ripping" Gratton to assault the fortress, and those mid-high tier demons slain by the Blood War Fortress support troops.

These corpses did not dissipate into ash like the evil god’s minions annihilated by Kana Divine Power; instead, they lay twisted and stiff on the ground, their dark blood slowly seeping out, mingling with the soil to form patches of viscous, filthy mire.

Fortunately, Blood War Fortress did not lack people to handle demon corpses.

After all, in prior wars, many demons were also eliminated by Avengers, whose corpses would remain.

The materials extracted from these corpses would eventually be returned to those Avengers.

The mixed scents in the air became more complex, with the rancid smell of decaying Abyss flesh, the burnt stench of scorched bones, and the rusty scent of cooling metal.

And...a lingering unnatural chill and a faint, metallic-sounding hum—that was the sensory distortion brought by the space ripples left after space had been repeatedly torn apart.

The color of the ground became peculiar as well, with the original charred battlefield now coated in a strange cold light, a blend of polar ice blue and dark silver—marks left after the conflict between the remnants of Order Divine Power and Abyssal filthy energy seeped into the soil.

Kana, as the representative of the Savior, symbolized Order, his datafication ability making his Order Divine Power among the top tier.

The Abyss is Chaos.

It can be said to possess immense conflict, and the demons of the Abyss are collective entities of Chaos.

The clash of these two forces here naturally caused changes to the surrounding environment.

And in some areas near the base of the walls or energy focal points, the scorched earth even appeared semi-crystallized, flickering with an unstable but exceedingly sharp light.

"Whew...this time it’s even more wicked than last time."

A Night Watcher Warrior, leaning against a half-collapsed parapet, spat out a bloody mouthful and clumsily adjusted his fallen helmet with his bandaged left hand, the helmet side bearing a deep dent and burn marks.

His cheeks were also wrapped with blood-seeped linen bandages, but his exposed eyes showed exhaustion, yet also twinkled with the relief of survival.

It was in this place, only in the Abyss, that one could feel the flesh-and-blood helplessness before datafication, though the sensation was sparse.

"Look at the ground...it’s like it’s covered with a layer of cold glass shards; stepping on it feels like the chill is seeping into your bones."

Beside him, a figure unusually brawny, cloaked in a tattered cape, stood with his back to him.

With a chipped war axe, struggling to push a massive scythe demon corpse towards the nearby processing point.

The man turned his head, revealing half a face covered with fresh scars, with dark red lines beneath the skin writhing like living creatures—this was an Avenger.

He grinned, his teeth sharp, his voice hoarse and low: "It’s not the ground that’s wicked; it’s the sound of those two grandfathers fighting. Damn Master of Ripping...and Lord Venerable...that sound, I almost thought this damn place would really ’rip’ into pieces."

"Who wouldn’t think so!" The Night Watcher Warrior agreed, gasping, reaching to rub his still buzzing ears, pointing to some particularly large space rift marks in the distance.

"Look at those big pits and cracks; yesterday they were just ordinary trenches, and now they look like they could swallow a whole squad without a trace. Especially that one..."

He pointed towards the main battlefield direction on the left side of the fortress.

"Gratton’s last claw strike was diverted off target? After being swept by Lord Kana’s aftermath, that area directly recessed ten meters deep, the edge as smooth as if sliced by the sharpest knife...monster-like power."

This is merely the aftermath of the divine clash.

Gods fought in the sky, not just in the sky but on another spatial level.

The space was torn apart, and the force transmitted from the torn space changed the battlefield significantly.

It’s a wonder when they were affected by those forces during the battle they weren’t directly obliterated.

The Avenger paused, resting on his war axe, catching his breath, his robust chest heaving as his eyes swept over the demon carcasses piled high, covered in peculiar silver-blue light.

"Hmph, the more dead, the bigger the hassle. In the past, low-tier trash was numerous, Night Watchers killed many, they self-incinerated cleanly, leaving barely any residue.

"These tough bodies, they’re dead alright, but this rotten flesh...it’s disgusting to look at, the blood’s corrosive too, damn hard to deal with."

He gestured towards the alchemists directing engineer soldiers in using iron flowers to assist constructs in clearing the corpse mounds: "Those butchers, after segmenting the bodies, leave a heap of garbage needing transport to the incineration point over there, to burn!
