Chapter 1352: Chapter 892: Victory

At the front lines of the "Steel Cliffs," the earth-shaking cries of battle and booming artillery did not cease, yet the rhythm had quietly changed.

Under the combination of multiple advantages.

The advancing speed of the Night Watchers and Adventurers was too fast.

In high morale and filled with fury, their attacks were exceptionally aggressive.

The already weakened and disconnected Void Creatures suffered extensive damage.

Though the expeditionary force also faced considerable losses, their morale was overly high and their assault speed was overwhelmingly rapid.

They charged ahead, forcibly pushing back the numerically superior Void Creatures.

With Lurik’s commands cascading down the ranks, the main assault force halted abruptly like an iron gate upon reaching the designated nodes, swiftly turning their frenzied offensive into a strict defensive formation.

Only at this point did they slow their pace.

Then the medics following behind were able to quickly treat the injured, including those near death among the Adventurers.

Meanwhile, the Construction Corps that had been shadowing the main force received clear orders from the command center.

In a designated area twenty-five kilometers from the front line, construct a final defensive perimeter around the Void Rift.

"Everyone, move! Target location is clear, construct the final encirclement. It’s an arc shape, with the core being that rift."

The Captain of the Construction Corps wiped the grime mixed with sweat and black dust from his face, his voice hoarse yet powerful as he shouted to his comrades.

His orders, like stones thrown into a calm water surface, instantly broke the Construction Corps’ brief respite.

Engineering vehicles’ engines roared back to life, and engineers and technical mages in standardized work attire immediately engaged in high-intensity work.

Upfront, the Combat Master of the Night Watchers, who commanded the battle, also transmitted the orders to halt advancement and construct defenses on site through amplification arrays and tactical channels to all combat units.

"Stop, begin building defensive positions on site, watch out for Void Creatures’ attacks, we’ve advanced far enough."

This order instantly stirred a ripple of complaints within the Adventurers on the front line.

"What the heck? We still have plenty of time! The Pyramid can suppress the rift for over three more hours! Why not charge in and destroy the rift in one go, kill more monsters and earn more merit?"

A brawny Adventurer wielding dual-blade axes angrily embedded one axe blade into the carcass of a Void Creature.

"Exactly, just one more push and we can win completely," someone echoed nearby.

Why not build the defensive line right at the rift’s entrance? Kill anything that comes out instead of establishing the line so far away, giving the rift more space?

"Hmph, you think you’re capable of understanding what the big shots up there are considering?"

An experienced Adventurer with a scar across his face eyed the complainers dismissively, while wiping his bloodstained short knife with a rag.

"They have their calculations; for us trading lives for money, we just follow orders and work."

"Their consideration? They consider how to make us bleed more so they get more benefits."

A young Adventurer, evidently new to the front line with somewhat mismatched gear, couldn’t help but murmur, filled with stereotypes and resentment toward the traditional nobility.

His words chilled the air around him.

Several seasoned veterans immediately directed looks of disapproval, some even with warnings.

"Kid, just arrived?"

An Adventurer in his forties or fifties, with a worn face and wearing faded leather armor, snorted heavily before approaching the young man, his voice low yet commanding.

"Confusing Night Watchers with those vampire-like nobles lounging on their golden hoards? Got your head muddled by Void whispers?"

"What are Night Watchers? They’re the ones upfront filling the rifts with their lives! Their orders are lessons paid for with countless blood and tears! If you don’t get it, shut up and watch, don’t embarrass yourself here!"

The young Adventurer turned red with embarrassment, still muttering to himself about how "it’s all the same..."

But faced with the unfriendly gazes and silent pressure from numerous veterans, he swallowed back most of his complaints.

As the old Adventurer pointed out, questioning the motives of Night Watchers on a battlefield fighting against the Void with life, is undoubtedly ignorance and desecration; many newcomers have gone through this kind of "education."

It’s known that many of these veteran Adventurers have fought alongside the Night Watchers for a long time.

Back when slots for Night Watchers were still limited, they often fought alongside Night Watchers.

Following them to combat demons, strike against followers of the Evil God.

Then moved on to defeating rats, and now fighting these damned Void Creatures.

Everyone was always at the forefront, never lacking supplies for these collaborators.

Over the years, they clearly understand that Night Watchers genuinely strive for their goals.

Naturally upset that these young people oppressed by nobles are mixing up Night Watchers with those damned nobles, it’s a great insult.

It also insults those fighting for Night Watchers.

As the offensive ceased and turned to defense, the intensity of battle indeed decreased significantly.

The void creatures that had swarmed like a tide earlier were greatly reduced in number after being cut off by the Pyramid, and the main assault force’s previous overwhelming advance had cleared a large number of enemies ahead.
