Chapter 1396: Chapter 912: White Wall Defense Line
Behind the battlements, the Night Watcher warriors wielding magical power firearms revealed themselves.
It was their moment to unleash their might as the demons prepared to scale the walls.
The firearms they held were magical power weapons, capable of operating steadily even in the Abyss.
In an environment filled with magic fluctuations and chaotic attributes, the alchemy weapons remained able to launch attacks.
"Ready!"
"Fire!"
With the command issued.
The Night Watchers gripping the firearms pulled the triggers, magic within their bodies mixing with the dissipated surrounding magic to fuel the weapons.
The uniquely designed firearms in their hands emitted a steady hum, as beams of blazing white or deep blue light bullets rained down upon the area below the walls like torrential rain.
Shush shush shush!
Swarming light bullets formed a curtain, cascading down like a waterfall.
"Ahhh!"
The agonized cries of various demons.
Light bullets struck demons’ bodies, exploding into charred holes or freezing entire areas.
Though a single shot lacked the power of the rune-enchanted piercing alchemy ballista bolts, it must be remembered that these weapons were handheld personal arms, and compared to bows and crossbow arrows, they were more convenient and swift, effectively converting some Night Watchers’ magic into more potent attacks.
After all, this is a fantastical world.
Using bows and crossbow arrows, launching attacks far surpassing the power of magical power firearms was extremely easy.
The only advantage of magical power firearms lies in their ability to discharge massive waves of magic bullets.
For many professionals not specialized in this field, it takes considerable time to fire magic bullets.
The training involved is also cumbersome.
With magical power firearms, raising weapons to fire in unison creates a tide of magic bullets, effectively suppressing enemies at mid to close range while inflicting significant casualties.
Thus, in rapid mid to close-range attacks, magical power firearms become an extremely useful weapon.
Otherwise, bows and crossbow arrows would be preferable.
Another factor is their flexibility, their loading and firing rate is much faster than bows and crossbow arrows.
This is one of the standard equips of the Night Watchers.
Currently, the dense web of fire effectively suppressed demons attempting direct climbs, especially agile small-sized demons.
These roach-like creatures perished en masse, falling like raindrops.
However, for robust and large demons, firearms had limited effectiveness.
But magic bullets were primarily intended to clear the battlefield; strong individuals were naturally needed to contend with these formidable beings.
A frenzy demon bared its teeth against the storm of light bullets, roaring as it charged towards the base of the walls, wielding its enormous bone hammer to smash fiercely against the wall.
Boom!
The runes on the wall flashed, the bone hammer rebounded, leaving only a shallow dent in the wall.
But the frenzy demon paid no heed, its thick fingers gripping the gaps between the wall’s rough bone protrusions, straining to climb upward.
Just then, a small rapid-fire alchemy crossbow cannon on the wall pivoted its barrel.
Finally, there was time to deal with these crazed creatures.
Whoosh!
A compact but more powerful alchemy crossbow arrow shot forth instantly, precisely penetrating the frenzy demon’s relatively fragile shoulder joint.
"Roar—!"
The frenzy demon roared in pain, its climbing action faltered.
Then, several light bullets and a heavy arrow fired by an Avenger simultaneously struck its head and chest.
This mighty demon unwillingly released its grip, crashing heavily, crushing a swath of demons below.
The strongest weapon against demons is always Order, always the discipline and cooperation born from Order.
You cannot expect demons to have cooperation or Order, wars against demons always involve obstructing their reckless charges until their last one falls.
Therefore, at this moment.
The demons did not give up.
They stacked bodies, cast grappling hooks, and some demons capable of clinging directly adhered to the wall.
As if they intended to breach the wall before them.
However, when they truly touched the seemingly decrepit "White Wall" haphazardly fused with bones and metal, a sudden change occurred.
The runes on the wall, seemingly randomly inscribed and emanating a faint glow, shone brightly.
An intense force of scorching Order erupted from within the wall.
"Hiss hiss—ahh ahh ahh!"
A horned demon freshly placed its claws on the parapet, the claws smoked instantly as if pressed against a red-hot branding iron, emitting a piercing scream, it quickly withdrew its claws, losing balance and tumbling down.
An aberrant demon attempting to adhere to the wall with suckers found the contact point sizzling, the suckers charred instantly and fell off, leaving it writhing in agony.
Portions of the wall composed of demon remains, exhibited severe "purification" reactions against kindred flesh, the demon skins fizzling like corroded by strong acid.
This rudimentary "White Wall," at this moment, transformed into a barricade burning with invisible Fire of Order.
This was the final line of defense that needed facing in order to climb this wall.
The demons’ climb became exceedingly difficult and painful, every second bringing immense harm.
The stairways of corpses were relentlessly "purified" and weakened by the runes, delaying the demons’ ascent.
Yet, owing to their overwhelming numbers and fearless madness, some demons still managed to reach the battlements.
This was inevitable.
"Shield formation! Hold the breach!" a Night Watcher officer bellowed.
