Chapter 1406: Chapter 916: A New Path_3
The Tower of Trial was all too familiar to them—it was the cradle where new blood of the Night Watchers grew.
By now, the Night Watchers had already formed a very mature and highly efficient "Level-up chain."
The general process was as follows.
Newcomers joined the Night Watchers and received basic training in the Training Camp.
If their Level had not yet exceeded Level Three, they had to keep training until they met the standard before they could become Official Night Watchers; if they were already above Level Three upon joining, they could be regularized after a short period of adaptive training.
After becoming Official Members, Night Watchers above Level Three would be dispatched across the continent, mainly stationed at the various known Void Rift defense points.
There, they first had to endure the Spirit tempering of the Void Whisper, gaining a deep understanding of the Void’s essence and learning to remain rational under pressure, then they would be thrown into brutal real combat against Void minions.
When most people had been tempered by actual combat and grown to around Level Five, they would enter a relatively "idle" period.
It was called idle, but in truth it meant turning toward another, more focused form of "Cultivation"—the vast majority would choose to head to the core structure of Ring Tower City: the Tower of Trial.
There, they could "soak" for long stretches in virtual battles constructed by Rules, rapidly accumulating Experience and raising their Level through challenge, challenge again, and challenge yet again.
This process came with considerable risk of casualties and was filled with cruel elimination mechanisms.
Those with talent could advance by leaps and bounds in a relatively short time, reaching around Level Eight or Level Nine.
It wasn’t that one couldn’t Impact Level Ten within the tower; it was just that as the overall number of Night Watchers exploded, the resource load on the Tower of Trial grew heavier and heavier, and the time cost of relying solely on tower trials to reach Level Ten became prohibitively high.
Thus, those Night Watchers who had reached Level Seven, Level Eight, or even Level Nine would be put on rotation, leaving the relatively "safe" Trial Tower and Rift defense lines, and be dispatched to the cruelest front—the Abyss Blood Battle Battlefield.
Here, the countless, endless Demons became the most "generous" source of Experience.
The fighting never stopped, and Experience Value poured into the bodies of the Night Watchers like a raging river, driving their Levels to climb at high speed until they reached the threshold of Level Ten.
This process varied from person to person; talent, effort, and luck all played a part.
But according to statistics from the Logistics Department, a Level Three Official Night Watcher now, on average, needed about three years to reach Level Ten under the tempering of the Abyss.
That speed, in the eyes of any other faction, was an unthinkable miracle, something they wouldn’t even dare to imagine.
Of course, behind this "miracle," one had to "thank" the Void’s vanguard minions, and those "brave and fearless," endlessly charging Demon Legions in the Abyss for their "generous and selfless" contribution of Experience.
However, Level Ten was a great watershed.
After reaching Level Ten, the accumulation of Experience Value was no longer the bottleneck; the real difficulty lay in understanding the Rules and in one’s insight into their own path—this was a process of qualitative change that could no longer be achieved quickly by simply piling up quantity.
To advance to Legendary, one could only "grind it out slowly."
Those with talent, fortuitous encounters, and tenacious minds—people like Raelia, the type who kept breaking through themselves amid the blood and fire of the Abyss—might, after another three to five years of bitter endurance, find an opportunity and successfully Ignite the Legendary flame.
But those Night Watchers whose talent was relatively mediocre and whose comprehension was lacking might very well find that even by the time the final battle of the Void Apocalypse was over, they had still not touched the threshold of Legendary.
This cruel reality was also the core reason why the current high-end combat strength of the Night Watchers was far lower in number than their massive Level Ten Legion.
