Chapter 439: Next Destination
All of them were taken aback by this conclusion.
"Now that I think about it, the avatars are modeled after those kinds of beings. There were no historical figures, but a lot of avatars came from mythological figures. There were also other fantasy beings, but those beings..." Katarina covered her mouth in shock.
"Yeah. Those beings might have been recorded as well. Besides, we’re talking about all kinds of myths here, so there might be ones that no longer exist. I’m talking about how there will definitely be a myth that no one even remembers anymore." Maya nodded with a serious expression.
In the past, she asked Auric a question regarding the avatar. She never thought that the situation was like this.
Auric looked down, contemplating. There was still a lot of information he hadn’t told them, such as the Rank 8 and Rank 9, bloodline, and even the calamities.
If Rank 8 was indeed related to the bloodline, that meant Rank 9 would be even more.
Just like his father said, Earth would experience the Age of Gods, but it wouldn’t be a matter of myths anymore. They were the ones becoming gods.
Society would have to be reformed to accept the new era.
However, that still left him with one question. What about avatars?
They were images created by the myths, but why would his father change his body so that he didn’t have an avatar?
"Are avatars bad for your body?" Auric crossed his arms.
"What do you mean?" Stella didn’t miss it. Auric asked a lot of random questions, but none of them were something like an intrusive thought. The fact that he even considered the possibility of avatars being bad for the people’s bodies showed that there was a high chance of such a terrifying thing actually being true.
All humans awakened avatars. The only one who didn’t possess an avatar was Auric.
Auric shook his head. "Never mind. It was just a side thought."
"We both know that’s not true. What do you mean by avatars are bad?" Stella panicked.
"..." Katarina and Maya looked at each other, wondering what was going on.
Auric let out a long sigh. "I will give you another clue instead. If humans can become gods, what does it mean to have an image of a god in your body?"
Auric didn’t mention anything about Ranks or bloodline. This way, no one knew about the possibility of Rank 7 yet.
Stella froze. "If the Age of Gods is real, what about the former gods?"
"No, in the first place, what’s these gods all about?" Maya asked. "I mean, the gods are so strong that they can actually destroy the universe, right? Can we even become gods?"
"That’s a valid question. There are many stories about them. They have the power of creation or destruction. They can create worlds and destroy everything else."
Auric shook his head. "The myths are written by humans, right? If that’s the case, they can only perceive what they see, not to mention the amount of exaggeration put into it to make it interesting. The gods might not be that strong. They’re just stronger than normal humans."
"..." Maya fell silent. Auric might be telling the truth. Even in psychology, people often exaggerate the events that caused them shock. If they idolized someone, they would worship that person.
In a way, the Sun and the Moon personas Auric created were actually in a similar situation. If it continued long enough, the Sun and the Moon would become considered gods.
Were they strong? Of course not. Auric was stronger than his peers, but there were still so many people in the world who could overpower him.
That was why they might be exaggerating the story.
If they accepted this was the case, then Auric’s question became valid. What were these images doing in their bodies?
Most people would say that avatars were a kind of anchor that allowed them to wield their power, but was that all there was to it?
They couldn’t really answer. There were too many mysteries about the avatars. Whenever they became stronger, their avatars were involved.
Auric continued, "When you reach Rank 2, your energy gets stronger, but that’s because your avatar gets stronger or your avatar processes the entire thing to make your element stronger. The same applies to the evolution to Rank 3 and so on."
When they evolved to Rank 3, the avatars would be accumulating their energy first before spreading it to the entire body to enhance their strength.
Katarina drew in a sharp breath. "I heard that when you reach Rank 7, your avatar will become a part of you. Is that right? I mean, will I become a golem? Won’t that be ugly? I’m now getting scared of reaching Rank 7..."
"Is that really the problem here? I don’t think that’s the point of this topic." Stella scratched the side of her neck, not expecting Katarina to worry about such a thing.
"You don’t have to worry about that because your avatar is modeled after a valkyrie, known for both her strength and beauty. I won’t be the same..." Katarina glared at Stella.
Katarina rushed to Auric and asked, "Please say it. I’m really not going to become an ugly golem, am I? Even if it’s just for a part of my body, I don’t think I can stand it. Is there going to be a beauty enhancement or something? Please, Boss. I’m willing to serve you for the rest of my life if I can reach Rank 7 without turning into a golem..."
Auric gave her a wry smile. Even he didn’t know the answer to that question. "Well, isn’t that what we’re currently investigating?"
"I need to start therapy." Katarina fell to her knees as though hope had completely disappeared from her life.
Auric was speechless, but he could also understand Katarina’s obsession with beauty. No one wanted to look ugly if they could choose.
Auric sighed and just patted her head. "All right, all right. Let’s investigate first and see if such a thing is possible. When that happens, I’m going to help you, okay?"
"You promise?"
"I promise."
"..." Katarina sighed and returned to her seat.
Auric raised one finger. "In any case, that’s just a question. There are still many things we don’t know about the avatars, so we can’t reach a conclusion yet. That is why we need to figure out the rest."
"That’s right. What was our original goal?" Stella raised one finger. "It was to figure out our next destination. Now that we know it’s related to the temple and this so-called Age of Gods, we need to find the location where they’re researching the temples... possibly a place similar to what we’ve just entered."
Katarina didn’t say anything, but she already started searching.
"Still, the avatars, the gods, the temple... If they’re all connected, how much does your father actually know? I’ve been meaning to ask this, but what is he?" Maya couldn’t contain her curiosity.
She doubted that other Rank 7 humans knew about this, but Maya had seen a unique element from the magic item, which obviously came from his father, protecting him. It even protected her.
So, she wondered what kind of being Auric’s father was.
On paper, his father looked like an ordinary man. He looked youthful, but that was all.
However, he definitely knew about his wife or the one who enabled her. In other words, he was supposed to be equal, if not stronger, than his wife.
She came to the conclusion that his father was supposed to be at least a Rank 6 human with a unique element.
The fact that there was actually a Rank 6 human with a unique element was surprising given the limited number of Rank 5 humans with the same element.
No one in this world knew about his existence. Still, it paled in comparison with the information he possessed.
If he already told Auric about this clue, he must have known more.
Of course, there were details that Auric hadn’t told her yet, but it was clear that his father’s knowledge wasn’t limited to it.
There was also a matter of the seven calamities that his father was talking about, but Auric wasn’t exactly concerned about it.
They might be dangerous, but if he continued to progress this way, he might be able to do something about it. As long as he reached his own goal, nothing else mattered.
For Maya, the lack of knowledge just made Auric’s father even more mysterious. As a teacher, she had run a background check on Auric to ensure that the resources weren’t allocated to terrorists.
She only realized Auric didn’t have a normal family after his mother helped her.
Auric just looked at Maya and chuckled. "I have as many questions as you do."
Even he didn’t know about his father. All he knew was that his father was much older than what was registered on paper. He had even taught Joker, helping him become a Rank 7 human. His mother was also strong. If not for the mistake he made, his mother would still be alive.
No, she might even become a Rank 7 human. That was all he knew about his father. He didn’t know how his father got all that knowledge.
Auric let out a long sigh, feeling disappointed. He also wanted to know about his father, and his father escaped before he could land a punch on his face as he promised. Then again, it was also his fault for not punching him first and talking later.
Before they continued, Katarina interrupted them. "I got one bad news and one good news. What do you want to know first?"
"Good news," Auric and Maya answered at the same time.
"I’ve found the place where they’re researching the temple. There is only one place like this in the entire world."
"And the bad news is...?" Stella frowned.
Katarina smiled before imitating the language. "Ni Hao."
