Chapter 156: Chapter 53: [Divergent Paths of the Two Systems]

The two Ghost Knights stood in silence across a distance, facing each other at the borders of their respective territories. The sharply angled Gothic Knight Helmet stared down the intricately carved Heroic Spirit Winged Helmet.

The Exiles had retreated to the vicinity of the Insect Path on the outskirts of the Underground City in the center of the High Grass Plain. Separated by such a considerable distance, they were unable to hear the conversation between the two. Talia had also been dragged away by the Exiles—despite her rather reluctant appearance.

"Why are we just standing around like idiots? Let’s sit and chat." Lahador waved frivolously. Beside him, the two Scythe Corpse Demons serving as his honor guard pulled aside the obstructing Nether Copper Lock Armor on their bodies and melded together. Rotting flesh flowed, granulations connected with one another, and their bones pieced together in a grotesque structure.

A few seconds later, the two Scythe Corpse Demons transformed into a twisted, high-backed chair of flesh and blood. The Nether Copper Lock Armor combined to form the backrest and seat cushions, and the two Collins-style Helmets were positioned perfectly as armrests. The giant scythes were grasped by rotting arms extending from the sides of the seat, their blades facing outward like spread wings, standing tall as guards on either side of the chair.

Samael’s mind stirred. Corpse Demons could be stitched together at will. In theory, he could use Corpse Demons and fresh corpses to piece together a wide variety of units.

The opponent’s elite units had less Armor coverage, which allowed for such a maneuver. But his own elite units were fully equipped with Knight Armor, making it impossible to imitate the opponent’s actions.

Regardless, he couldn’t afford to lose in terms of sheer presence.

He silently waved his hand. Three Corpse Knights wearing Bell-shaped Helmets raised their Nether Copper Large Shields in front of them. Over a dozen Corpse Knights knelt on one knee, offering their Nether Copper Knight Swords to their Monarch with both hands. Amidst the CLANG CLANG of collisions and showers of cyan-blue sparks, they thrust their Knight Swords into the shields. Samael reached out and pressed his hand against the massive Nether Bronze Sword Cluster. The semi-molten Nether Bronze Sword Cluster quickly took shape, forming a heavy Sword Tomb Throne.

The two Necromancer Monarchs sat facing each other from a distance, seated on the Scythe Wing Flesh Chair and the Sword Tomb Nether Bronze Chair.

Just in case, Samael activated his scanner and ran a scan on Lahador—the displayed information was exactly the same as his own chassis.

"You’ve run your scan; are you at ease now?" Lahador spread his hands. "Would I lie to you, my good brother?"

"Speak," Samael said as he slowly leaned back into the backrest of his Sword Tomb Throne, flanked by his Corpse Knights.

"Don’t be so serious, neighbor. Let’s just have a little chat first." Lahador waved his hand dismissively. "When were you dropped here? Seeing as you seemed to come from the outer perimeter in the Southwest of the Hai Xin earlier, was the location of your awakening not in the Hai Xin Plain?"

"Please state your own time and location of awakening first. In exchange, once I verify it, I will reveal mine," Samael replied.

"Hah! Truly cautious..." Lahador leaned against the back of his chair and flicked his barbed arm guards. "Alright, alright, it’s no big deal anyway. Our locations of awakening were all in the Hai Xin Plain, and it hasn’t been long—about... three or four months? Our concept of time has been largely eroded by these damn bodies. Staring blankly in a tomb for three months feels like three days."

Three or four months? Samael was startled. This was almost identical to the time he had awakened in the Divine Era Ruins on the continent’s periphery.

"I am the same as you," he answered ambiguously, without specifying whether he meant the time or the location of his awakening.

"Is that so? Hey... did you come up with the name Samael yourself?" Lahador rambled on. "It’s pretty cool. Even though it doesn’t sound as good as mine, it barely passes muster."

"It was what the first resident of this otherworldly realm I met called me. I simply adopted it," Samael replied.

"Ah, of course, a new name—everyone hates their past and can’t wait to adopt a new name to sever all ties, right?" Lahador shrugged his shoulder Armor. "My surname used to be Lu... It doesn’t matter. Speaking of which, where did you get a bunch of native followers? A group of Space Sub-Humans?"

His Nether Copper Body leaned slightly forward in the Scythe Wing Flesh Chair, and the hollow gaze beneath his winged helmet stared at Samael with avid interest.

"That’s none of your business," Samael replied. "They aren’t my followers; they are my companions."

"Ah, so you’ve actually grown attached to them... Well then, you mentioned earlier that the system loaded into your chassis is..." Lahador probed, "[Extraterrestrial Underground Colony Construction System]?"

"You all have the [Extermination System] loaded, right?" Samael didn’t answer directly, instead countering with another question.

"Exactly, all six of us have the [Extermination System]." Lahador rubbed his hands together. "I’m very curious about this construction system... Not to mention why the initial settings of your chassis are different. Can we compare notes and see what exactly the differences are?" he asked tentatively.

"..." Samael remained silent for a moment. "You can explain the traits of the [Extermination System]. If there is a discrepancy between them, I will tell you how the [Construction System] differs from it."

"Oh, how cunning." Lahador slouched against the Nether Copper Helmet armrest of the high-backed Scythe Wing Flesh Chair, his arm guard and Hand Armor supporting the chin of his helmet.

"As an additional reminder, I will seek out Anshiba later for a chat. If your description differs from Anshiba’s, I will prioritize forming an alliance with Anshiba," Samael added.

"Whoa, whoa, is that really necessary?" Lahador laughed awkwardly. "Xiaosa, take my advice and ignore Anshiba. That guy is incredibly treacherous and cunning; he doesn’t have a single word of truth in him. If he lies and deceives you, I’d end up being falsely accused!"
