Chapter 30: Chapter 13: [Gugu Chicken, Wheat Grain Bag, and Super Painful Magic Potion]
He looked around, pointed at a relatively large Split Claw Bird on the edge of the flock, and suddenly jumped out from the cover of the rocks. "Follow me!" he shouted. "Create a dueling ring for me!"
The Little Fatty Swordsman and the Glasses Mage followed closely behind!
SQUAWKING in panic, the Split Claw Birds scattered in a flash and disappeared in the blink of an eye.
The targeted Split Claw Bird was just about to flee when it found itself trapped between the Little Fatty Swordsman and the Glasses Mage. It looked around in terror, trying to find an escape route, but realized the final path was blocked by Roster. Having no other choice, it dug its claws into the dirt and lunged head-on at Roster!
"Let’s have a fair duel!" With a blade of grass dangling from his mouth, Roster drew his Longsword with an imposing air, raised his right arm, held the blade horizontally, and faced the Split Claw Bird!
SQUAWK! The Split Claw Bird shrieked. It flapped its wings violently, its feet briefly leaving the ground, revealing the sharp, thick talons honed by years of digging the earth. It swiped a claw right at Roster!
CLANG! Sparks flew! The Longsword barely parried the first strike, but the next claw was insidiously hidden right behind it.
"SQUAWK!" The sharp claws fiercely slashed Roster’s left arm, leaving three bloody trails.
"Ah! An incredible opponent! Now it’s my turn!" Unwilling to be outdone, Roster retaliated, piercing the Split Claw Bird’s wing with his sword and leaving a dripping bloody wound of his own.
"Rookies! Be careful, stand further back and watch! Don’t get hurt by the Split Claw Bird!" Even as he fought, he didn’t forget to warn Samael and Talia.
"Oh my god, evenly matched opponents, what a thrilling battle. My blood is boiling." Talia stood to the side with her Hammer Spear strapped to her back, yawning as she watched with cold detachment. "Wow, it’s so exciting. I’m about to faint from the suspense."
She turned her head to look at Samael, only to see him staring blankly at Roster’s fight with the Split Claw Bird, lost in thought.
"Samo? Want to see something even more exciting?" she whispered, leaning her helmet closer with a hint of mischief.
"...What?" Samael didn’t quite register what she meant.
"Watch." Beneath the Demon Horn Helmet, a faint, ghostly blue light flashed in her eyes.
The Split Claw Bird’s movements paused, a similar blue light glinting in its own eyes.
It was as if the Monarch’s decree whipped its very soul, the Monarch’s power driving its very skeleton! It would run until its legs broke, smash its body to pieces, and snap its own neck just to fulfill this command!
In the next second, it suddenly spread its wings and leaped into the air!
Startled, Roster raised his sword and thrust it straight forward!
The Split Claw Bird didn’t dodge or evade. Its torso was forcefully contorted into a twisted posture by some unnatural force, narrowly avoiding the blade! The movement shattered its own bones, yet driven by the fanatical momentum of the Monarch’s whip, it charged straight for Roster’s chest!
The steel-like claws flashed. Accompanied by the crisp, faint sound of leather armor being sliced open, blood splattered.
Blood gushed out in waves, sprinkling across the ground drop by drop.
Amidst the terrified screams of his two fanboys, Roster slowly fell to his knees.
The Split Claw Bird’s broken bones could no longer support it, either. The Monarch’s tyrannical command had completely crushed it. Like a puppet whose strings had been cut, life dissipated from its ruined body. Carrying the last of its residual strength, the Split Claw Bird charged forward a few more meters before finally crashing headfirst into the ground, its brains bursting out.
Talia let out a yawn.
"Fun, right? This is much faster. Let’s finish up quickly and go back to rest," she whispered in Samael’s ear, as if showing off or seeking praise.
Samael remained silent, looking at Roster lying in a pool of blood and the two fanboys wailing in despair.
"You can’t do this," Samael said in a low voice. "He... he really is arrogant, loves to brag, and is obnoxiously ignorant of his own stupidity, but he doesn’t deserve to die. He even cared about the task of guiding rookies the whole time, calling me over to watch, and telling us not to get too close—"
He pushed Talia aside and stepped forward to check on Roster’s injuries.
Talia stood there, silently watching Samael rush over and prop up Roster’s upper body to examine the wounds.
"I’m fine... I’m fine! Just a flesh wound..." Luken Roster’s face was deathly pale as he groaned with difficulty. "Ah... Battle scars are an adventurer’s medals. And a scar from a head-on duel, that’s definitely going to look badass... Ugh..."
Samael activated his helmet UI’s scanner:
[Target Race: Human]
[Biological Structural Integrity: 54% (Rapidly decreasing)]
[Stamina: 20%]
[Spiritual Energy: 26%]
[Status: Critically injured, near death.]
[Estimated Time of Death: 36 minutes.]
His abdomen had been sliced open by the sharp claws. Without proper medical treatment, he wouldn’t survive much longer.
Magical Beasts driven by the Monarch always possessed a reckless fanaticism and treacherously vicious attack patterns. Under the whip of Spiritual Energy, even a timid and clumsy Gugu Chicken could transform into a frenzied, bloodthirsty Warrior.
"Don’t you have anything for emergency medical treatment?" Samael asked. "Aren’t adventurers supposed to prepare plenty of supplies in advance?"
He recalled a game he used to play frequently on his computer in his past life called *Dark Dungeon*. In the game, whenever you needed to purchase adventuring supplies before setting out on an expedition with four heroes, the narrator would always say teasingly:
"Measured now in gold, later in blood."
So, amidst the narrator’s mocking voice, Xia Mo’an would always curse the greedy merchants for their exorbitant prices while throwing piles of money at them to stockpile supplies.
"I... I haven’t learned any healing Magic yet," the Glasses Mage stuttered, adjusting his massive, bottle-bottom spectacles.
"Healing Potions... are very expensive. Captain Roster said they’re a scam..." the Little Fatty Swordsman with a mushroom haircut sobbed.
