Chapter 38: Chapter 16: [Assassin Elliot and the Super Arrogant Twin Knights]

"Ah... yes, of course." Randall was slightly disappointed, but he still nodded.

He should have known. Knights of this caliber couldn’t possibly do much for a rookie team like theirs.

"Additionally, we won’t participate in any missions related to Demon Race Dungeons," Talia added. "Because... because..."

"Because we are merely traveling ascetics. Travel expenses are our primary goal. Delving deep into a dungeon and provoking a Demon Monarch just for some travel money would be far too unwise for us," Samael interjected, covering for her.

"Of course... You two think too highly of us. The league has a rule that only adventurers of level five and above are allowed to enter Demon Race Dungeons. We don’t have those qualifications yet." Randall chuckled softly. "Please rest assured. Our team mostly takes on intermediate missions on the surface of the Barren Land. We won’t go deep underground."

"During our time with the team, you can take on whatever advanced missions you like," Talia said calmly. "We can promise that any advanced mission will be completed effortlessly. This is repayment for your captain’s goodwill. However, we are Priests from the Monastery, following ancient teachings. We have already dedicated our names and faces to the gods, so please do not spread this to outsiders."

The four members of the Garbage Beasts of Luojie City felt their hearts leap in unison!

Alchemist Ruby’s eyes widened, looking left and right in a daze.

Heavy Swordsman Glad sat upright, straightening his posture.

Mage Selena smiled, unable to resist looking toward Randall with a hint of "I’d expect no less from you" amusement in her eyes.

Assassin Elliot silently glanced at Randall, then sized up the two Knights.

"Um... alright, thank you." Randall swallowed hard, suddenly a bit flustered. "Here’s the situation. Our team recently took on a bandit suppression mission officially issued by Luojie City. I wonder if you two could..."

"Location. Numbers." Talia spat out two icy words.

"Near the Beast Bone Hills, southeast of Luojie City. According to the league’s mission document, there are over fifty of them," Randall answered concisely.

"The two of us can handle it alone. You just need to wait for the mission to be verified and collect the money. We only need travel expenses—just enough to catch a ride to the Ederic Empire. You can give us whatever you see fit." Talia calmly stated the facts, standing up and preparing to go crush the bandits right now with Samael. "Let’s go, Samo, we’re setting off now."

Elliot instinctively gasped.

"Uh... no, no. Our team also needs to... go with you two..." These words left Randall utterly bewildered. Though he knew they were strong and didn’t care much for money, he hadn’t expected it to be to this extent.

He instinctively glanced around the long table, only to see his teammates equally dumbfounded.

"You’ll be in the way," Talia said truthfully.

If Randall’s team tagged along, Talia and Samael would probably have to hold back their abilities. They couldn’t use Spiritual Energy, command wild monsters as Warriors, or summon Nether Copper Equipment out of thin air to fight. There was also the risk of Samael’s empty armor and immortal body being discovered. The difficulty of the battle would actually increase significantly.

"But... I can’t let you two risk yourselves alone for our sake, otherwise we’d feel guilty taking the mission reward," Randall insisted. "We are adventurers, not beggars. Please allow us to accompany you, even if it’s just to provide a little assistance."

"Fine, let’s go now," Talia said casually.

"No, no, no... We need... a bit of time to prepare some supplies." Randall felt his worldview slightly crumbling, not even knowing who these two Knights in front of him really were. "Do you two not need to prepare survival supplies?"

Even level seven or eight adventurers needed to prepare a large amount of supplies in advance before setting off to survive in the Barren Land and barely ensure the mission didn’t fail.

Yet these two Knights were ready to just up and leave? They didn’t even need to prepare food and water?

A soft, muffled THUMP rang out. Samael stepped on Talia’s foot under the table.

He was signaling her, "You can eat demonized plants and animals, and I don’t need to eat, but normal humans are different! They must prepare survival supplies to enter the Barren Land! Don’t blow our cover!"

"Mhm..." Talia stopped herself.

"Our... supplies are already packed and ready. They’re in the barracks, so we can set off at any time," Samael lied, covering for her again.

"Oh, oh, I see! Sorry, we’re the ones holding you back." Randall recovered his wits. "We need the morning to prepare our survival supplies, and we’ll depart for the bandit suppression mission at noon. How does that sound to you two?"

"That works," Talia said.

"Alright, then..." Randall tentatively looked around the long table. "Everyone agrees to let these two Priests temporarily join the team, right?"

The four of them nodded in unison.

"Great. Then, I’ll take the two Knights to complete the team-joining procedures, and the rest of you go prepare the supplies now. We’ll set off at noon."

"Yes," everyone agreed in unison, standing up amidst the chaotic SQUEAK of chairs being pushed back.

If Samael could still sweat, he would be breaking out in a cold sweat right now.

He thought, "We haven’t prepared supplies for human adventurers! We have to keep up the act the whole way, so we even need to prepare fake supplies! But Randall will be following us the entire time to handle the team-joining procedures, so there won’t be any time to buy fake supplies!" He looked toward Talia.

Talia shook her head.

After all, this was her first time pretending to be an adventurer, infiltrating a league stronghold, and even forming a team with a bunch of adventurers. Who knew pretending to be an adventurer would be so troublesome?
