THE GOD EATER
Chapter 1181: Jumping A Sinking Ship.
Amelia replied indignantly, "Of course I believe it."
"It has to be true that the Dao Lords are everywhere and are always listening. If not, how does the sect always know what we’re doing and know immediately when we kill someone?" she asked him.
Knowing how stubborn she could be, he didn’t bother to argue with her. Instead, he said, "I think the sect has more to worry about than some mortals talking about it."
"Have you heard about the Devouring Branch Metac that was just released in the Olympic Sect? Apparently, you can use it to gain lifespan directly. If I were the spirit of the Four Directions Sect, I would be paying attention to that, not our conversation."
Another rank 3 captain said, "I’ve heard about it. It is a terrifying Branch Metac. It can eat anything and give you lifespan as long as you have merit points to use it."
A third captain added with a hint of fear, "I heard it has turned the entire Blessed Heaven World into a battlefield. The disciples of the Olympic Sect are attacking everything and everyone."
"Apparently, they can gain merit points by killing the disciples of other sects. It is exactly the same way we gain merit points here in the Earthly Battlefield."
"Someone said that the Earthly Battlefield has become a safe haven compared to the mainland. Can you imagine it?"
"I can imagine it," Amelia said with conflicted feelings. "Now that no new soldiers are coming to the Earthly Battlefield and fighting has died down here while everyone is killing each other for merit points out there, it seems that the position of the battlefield and home have changed."
She didn’t care about the Four Directions Sect in particular. But she felt conflicted to hear about the demise of the Four Directions Sect because it was a ship that she was riding and couldn’t get off of.
She is a rank 4 cultivator looking to advance to rank 5. If she advances to rank 5, she can prolong her life by reincarnating, and she’ll be closer to becoming a divine being, which would let her increase her lifespan and live longer.
This goal had always been her dream. In recent times, it has become more of a fantasy because her opportunity to gain enough merit points, which was her performance in the Earthly Battlefield, had fallen through.
Now that the Earthly Battlefield was becoming increasingly irrelevant every day, the distance between her and her goal was constantly increasing. The worst part was that she could see it happening in real time, but she couldn’t do anything about it.
She couldn’t revive the Earthly Battlefield on her own, as she couldn’t make people join the Martial Body Sect and the Four Directions Sect and force them to come here to fight to the death. And she couldn’t leave the sect even if she wanted to.
All of this made her sad about the sect’s fate. But she was also angry that she couldn’t leave this sinking ship of a sect.
The captains in the communication channel kept talking about the changes in the world and lamented that they couldn’t change their paths. Of the 40 or so captains, only a few of them were relieved by the turn of events.
One of them was Greg. This Rank 3 Forger was sighing in relief and thinking, ’It seems it was a good idea to come here and hide. I just didn’t expect the danger in the outside world to become this fearsome.’
He had come to the Earthly Battlefield to hide from a rank 5 cultivator that might covet his mutated Life Ability. But now that he heard that every cultivator in the Olympic Pathway was after his life, he was extra glad that he ran away when he did.
As for the fact that he could no longer become a divine being since the Four Directions Sect had lost control of the Forging Pathway, he didn’t have much of a feeling about that. He didn’t care much because he didn’t think he could survive long enough to become a divine being.
His greatest goal had always been to become a rank 5 being. As long as that was still possible, he didn’t care about the fate of the sect. He kept this in his heart, though. No matter how indifferent to the fate of the sect was, he didn’t state it directly.
Fortunately, his thoughts were safe so far. But everything he and the other captains were talking about was not hidden from the Four Directions Sect like he thought.
In fact, the Dao Lord of the Four Directions Sect himself, Lord Black Chain, was listening to the conversation. But Black Chain wasn’t angry to hear his disciples complain about how they couldn’t betray their sects now in these trying times.
Black Chain knew that if he were in their position, he would betray his sect in half a heartbeat if he could, or complain that he couldn’t betray his sect if he couldn’t. So getting angry that they were complaining about their inability to switch pathways would be like a black kettle calling a pot black.
’Besides, I didn’t train them to be loyal. I can’t expect them to be loyal when I didn’t instill the value of loyalty in them,’ he thought in self-mockery.
He didn’t get angry, but that didn’t mean he was happy to hear their complaints. No one would be happy to hear one of their customers talk about how the competition was better in every way possible.
The worst part was that this wasn’t an isolated incident. It wasn’t one group of captains in one Earthly Battlefield that was complaining. Complaints were coming from every Earthly Battlefield all over the Blessed Heaven World.
Even the Heavenly Battlefields were not safe from this disgruntlement. It was clear that many disciples from the Four Directions Sect wanted to leave as soon as possible.
When he thought about how Martial Will’s mood had been bad recently, he chuckled depreciatingly and said, "The good news is that I’m not the only one suffering from this epidemic. The other sects are not better off."
"Anyway, I’ve seen enough. It is time to make a decision."
As he said this, he used the communicator in his hand. The communicator was a runic cube. When he initiated a call, a hologram of a giant moose appeared atop the cube.
The giant moose said, "Have you made up your mind?"
"I have," he said in reply. "I believe that we can work together and i am willing to do so."
