Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Celestial Return Medical Records, Prajñā Dragon-Elephant

Jiang Fan felt utterly baffled.

"Daddy, Mommy seemed angry just now."

"Yeah, it seemed like it."

"Why was Mommy angry?"

"Probably... menopause."

"What’s menopause?"

"It’s a kind of sickness."

"Oh... Mommy works so hard, and now she’s sick. When I grow up, I’m going to help Mommy earn money."

"Lots and lots of money."

"Mengmeng is the best."

Jiang Fan’s words had been tinged with a bit of a personal grudge, but this little girl’s replies were just so adorable.

This daughter he’d gotten for free was so precious to him; he doted on her so much he was afraid she’d just melt away.

When Jiang Fan returned to his room, he saw that the woman had called him over ten times and sent him dozens of messages.

No wonder she was so furious just now.

His phone vibrated again. Yin Ruxue had sent another message.

"Jiang Fan, if I find out you’ve done anything bad to Mengmeng, I guarantee your end will be miserable!!!"

Yin Ruxue’s tone was severe.

A mother’s love makes her strong. He could understand that.

After a moment’s thought, he replied, adding a pained smiley face, "Do I really look like a pedophile to you?"

Yin Ruxue: You’d better not be.

Mengmeng got back into bed, wanting to sleep but not daring to.

She had already yawned several times.

"Mengmeng, why aren’t you asleep yet?" Jiang Fan felt that putting a child to bed was more exhausting than taming a hawk.

He’d told a dozen or so stories, repeating them over and over until his lips were nearly raw.

But the little girl just wouldn’t sleep, forcing herself to stay awake.

Eventually, Jiang Fan was the one who felt miserable, desperately wanting to sleep himself.

"Daddy, are you sleepy?"

"No, I’m not sleepy."

"Daddy, don’t force yourself. Mengmeng isn’t sleepy yet."

’The little girl has already learned how to lie.’

Her eyelids were fighting to stay open, yet she claimed she wasn’t sleepy.

Jiang Fan pinched his own hand. A jolt of pain shot through him, waking him up a little.

"Daddy, I didn’t give you a present during the day. You can have this."

Mengmeng took the jade pendant from her neck. It was only half a piece, engraved with some strange, faint patterns.

It was an ancient piece of jade.

He had majored in archeology in college.

Without any connections or a powerful mentor in that field, his only option had been to become a delivery driver.

But he hadn’t forgotten his archeological knowledge over the years.

’It’s at least from before the Tang Dynasty. Too bad I can’t make out the inscription.’

"Daddy, my great-grandma gave me this jade pendant when she went to a place far, far away."

"Now I’m giving it to Daddy. This is Mengmeng’s most treasured possession."

The little girl held the jade pendant in both hands, her chubby face full of sincerity.

Jiang Fan hadn’t intended to take a gift from a child, but he was quite interested in ancient artifacts.

Jiang Fan picked up the jade pendant to examine it closely. Suddenly, his palm stung as if something had bitten him, and a drop of blood was absorbed by the jade.

The next second, a faint glimmer of light shot from the wound into his body.

His vision suddenly went black. Jiang Fan felt faint, but he recovered quickly.

’What’s going on?’

The jade pendant had fallen onto the bed. Seeing this, the little girl looked hurt.

"Daddy, don’t you like Mengmeng’s present?"

Jiang Fan patted Mengmeng’s head, then playfully ran his finger down the bridge of her small, rosy nose. "How could I not?"

"Mengmeng is the best gift Daddy could ever have."

"Daddy just didn’t have a firm grip on it."

"Even without a present, Daddy likes Mengmeng just the same."

"But I’m afraid that if I don’t give you a present, Daddy will leave while I’m sleeping." Mengmeng tightened her grip on Jiang Fan’s hand.

"I won’t. As long as Mengmeng is a good girl, Daddy will never leave."

"Mengmeng will definitely listen to Daddy. Please don’t go, Daddy."

"Alright then. Listen to Daddy now and go to sleep, Mengmeng."

"But Mengmeng doesn’t want to sleep right now."

"But Mengmeng just said she would listen to Daddy."

"Okay... then Mengmeng will sleep. But Daddy, you have to hold me tight."

Jiang Fan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

It seemed the little one was truly exhausted from all the fuss.

In just five or six minutes, she was fast asleep.

Jiang Fan finally breathed a sigh of relief.

’Finally, I can get some sleep.’

The night seemed to stretch on endlessly.

Jiang Fan fell into a deep sleep.

The ray of light appeared in his mind, gradually coalescing into a title: *Celestial Return Medical Records*.

All sorts of memories flooded his mind, and he had a very long dream.

In the dream, he traveled back to ancient times and became a doctor, saving people and curing illnesses with silver needles.

Diagnosing a pulse through a silk thread was a simple matter for him.

The four diagnostic methods—observation, listening and smelling, inquiry, and palpation—were mere child’s play.

His medical skills were godlike.

The words *Celestial Return Medical Records* vanished, instantly transforming into a charging elephant, then shifting into a snake dozens of meters long.

A figure that looked like a mere shadow continuously threw punches.

He was imitating the movements of these animals.

The scene changed, revealing a strange landscape of mountains and rivers. The flora and fauna here were more like those from Earth’s dinosaur era, when oxygen levels were high.

A giant flying creature suddenly appeared, its wingspan stretching over a dozen meters.

It startled Jiang Fan so much he broke out in a cold sweat.

Jiang Fan awoke from his dream.

It was already daylight. He glanced at the time—it was already eleven o’clock.

The bedroom door was open; someone had clearly been in.

Jiang Fan fumbled around beside him, but his hand found nothing but his phone.

"Where’s Mengmeng?" Jiang Fan’s heart skipped a beat.

Nanny Chen heard him and came over. "Sir, are you looking for the Young Miss and Mengmeng?"

"You had a fever last night. The Young Miss told me to tell you that she’s taking Mengmeng to school today. You’re just responsible for picking Mengmeng up this afternoon."

So Mengmeng had gone to school. Jiang Fan breathed a sigh of relief.

"Alright, Nanny Chen."

Nanny Chen went back to her chores.

Jiang Fan frowned slightly, raised his arm, and glanced at his bicep.

’I’m this strong, and I actually got a high fever?’

There was also a strange smell clinging to his body.

’It’s so late. The interview has probably already started.’

’I’ll probably have a hard time making it.’

’I should take a shower first.’

In the bathroom, Jiang Fan washed the grime off his body. He might be poor, but he was very particular about cleanliness and showered every day.

But as he washed, the water at his feet began to change color.

He even scrubbed off a large amount of filth.

It was completely absurd.

After the shower, however, he felt unbelievably refreshed and clear-headed.

Everything he looked at seemed to leave an extremely deep impression on him.

Outside the bathroom, his phone started ringing.

Jiang Fan hurried out to answer it. As expected, it was Yin Ruxue.

Before Jiang Fan could say a word, Yin Ruxue’s voice came from the other side.

"Jiang Fan, didn’t you go to the interview?"

"I had a fever and woke up late, so I’ve put it on hold for now."

"Don’t you look at the schedule?" Yin Ruxue’s voice grew a notch louder, as icy as ever.

"The schedule says the interviews are happening all day today."

"Holy shit, did I misread it?"

"I’m heading over right now."
