Jiang Fan gave her a thumbs-up. "Girls who smile a lot always have good luck."

"You’re so talented, you’ll definitely be a rich woman someday."

Rong Anyao’s pretty face flushed slightly. "Hehe, I hope you’re right."

They chatted for about ten minutes and exchanged contact information. Downstairs, Wu Qiang was getting so impatient he was about to blow a gasket, so he called.

"I’m telling you, Old Fan, did you run into a beauty and now your legs won’t work?"

"Yeah, I really did meet a beauty."

Rong Anyao turned around. On her desk was a large pile of dolls she had made herself.

She picked up the largest one and handed it to Jiang Fan. "Here, this is for you."

Jiang Fan smiled. "It’s so big, it can’t be cheap. I can’t afford it, you know."

"I already said it’s a gift."

Seeming a little shy, Rong Anyao’s voice was a bit quiet.

Jiang Fan smiled faintly. ’This girl really is nice. She still has that schoolgirl innocence.’

’She’s self-reliant, too.’ He thought of Sun Xiao. Comparing her to this girl, it was like night and day.

Jiang Fan took the large doll, placed it back on the desk, and picked up a small Piyao doll. "I’ll take this one."

"The Piyao brings wealth."

"It’ll be perfect to hang in my car."

"Actually, that big bull doll is better."

"I just like this one."

Rong Anyao was quite perceptive and naturally knew Jiang Fan was being considerate of her. "Alright, I’ll make you a big Piyao next time."

Jiang Fan’s knees nearly buckled when he heard that.

"Ahem, one is enough."

"Um, you should be careful living alone. It’s not that safe."

"Also, don’t go trying to jump off any more buildings, okay?"

"Keep it up."

Rong Anyao nodded emphatically. "Mhm, I won’t. I’ll keep it up."

Jiang Fan glanced at the time. "Holy shit, it’s already four o’clock."

"Don’t tell me your sugar mommy is getting off work?"

Wu Qiang was straightforward and didn’t press the issue. "Help me out with deliveries again next time, yeah?"

Jiang Fan gave him an "OK" sign.

’It’s already fucking four o’clock. Mengmeng gets out of school in ten minutes.’

Jiang Fan floored it.

After speeding through traffic, he finally arrived at the school just as the dismissal bell rang.

「Inside the first grade, class two classroom.」

It was Friday, so school was letting out ten minutes early.

Right now, only two children were left at school, still waiting for their parents to pick them up.

The teacher watched over the two kids from the side.

Mengmeng looked out the window. "Why isn’t Daddy here yet today?"

"Mengmeng, you don’t think your dad isn’t coming, do you?"

"No way. My daddy said he’d come pick me up every day from now on." Though she said that, she felt a pang of sadness; it was clear Mengmeng wasn’t so sure herself.

’Daddy wouldn’t lie to Mengmeng. Nope.’ Mengmeng whispered to herself.

Her deskmate, Lele, whispered, "Mengmeng, my grandma told me I was found in a trash can."

"First there was the trash can, then there was me. Then Grandma found me a mommy and a daddy."

"Really?"

"I don’t think my mommy and daddy ever told me that."

"Maybe your mommy and daddy were found by a grandma, too."

Mengmeng nodded blankly. "Even if my daddy was found, he’s still the most amazing daddy in the world."

"My daddy is the most amazing daddy."

"My daddy’s a pilot. He can fly."

"My daddy does scientific research. He can..." Mengmeng couldn’t finish.

"My daddy can tell stories, lots and lots of fairy tales."

"My daddy can also catch snakes with his bare hands."

"I bet your daddy can’t do that."

"My daddy can catch dinosaurs!" Mengmeng’s face turned red, refusing to be outdone.

Lele said, "You’re lying! There are no more dinosaurs in the world. Your daddy can’t catch dinosaurs."

"If I say he can, then he can!" ℯℯ𝑙.

"My daddy dares to eat poop! Does yours?" Lele grew more and more smug as he spoke.

And this very scene was overheard by Jiang Fan and Lele’s dad, who had just come up to pick up their children.

Jiang Fan looked in astonishment at the man in his thirties standing beside him.

Lele’s dad was fuming. The look of a man who wanted to murder someone couldn’t be hidden. ’This little brat.’

’Oh well, he’s still my own flesh and blood.’

Seeing her dad arrive, Mengmeng jumped up with joy.

"Daddy, Daddy! I knew you would come!"

Jiang Fan stroked Mengmeng’s head. "Good girl, Mengmeng. Of course Daddy would come to pick you up."

"Here, this is a present from Daddy."

"Wow, what a cute little monster!" Jiang Fan gave the Piyao he’d gotten from Rong Anyao to Mengmeng.

Mengmeng hugged the Piyao and waved it at Lele. "Hmph hmph, Lele, you don’t have one, do you?"

Seeing Mengmeng’s smug look, Lele immediately started crying and shouting that he wanted one too.

Lele’s dad cast a pleading look at Jiang Fan, who didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "Brother, I only have one."

"Never mind, Daddy will buy you one later. I’ll buy you a whole truckload."

"No! I want one just like that!"

Lele wailed. His old man was shedding tears of sorrow. ’I should have brought a toy.’

Jiang Fan put Mengmeng on his shoulders, hoisted up his little princess, and left.

Mengmeng didn’t forget to make a face at Lele, which made him cry even harder.

"Daddy, Mengmeng returned all those precious things to her classmates. Quick, praise Mengmeng!"

"Mengmeng is such a good girl."

"Daddy, Mengmeng heard from Lele that his grandma found him in a trash can, and his mommy and daddy were found by his grandma later."

"So... were Mengmeng’s mommy and daddy also found in a trash can?" Mengmeng asked in her sweet, childish voice.

Jiang Fan took one hand off the steering wheel and gently stroked Mengmeng’s head. "Of course not."

"Mengmeng grew in a little house inside Mommy’s tummy."

"When the little house in Mommy’s tummy couldn’t fit you anymore, Mengmeng came out of the little house."

"For Mengmeng to be ready to meet Mommy, you had to stay in her tummy for at least ten months."

"So Mengmeng wasn’t found. You came from inside Mommy’s tummy."

Mengmeng’s eyes sparkled like little stars. This was all a bit too advanced for her; with her current level of understanding, she couldn’t quite imagine it.

"Then what about Daddy? Mommy gave birth to Mengmeng, so what did Daddy do?"

This question stumped Jiang Fan. ’How the hell am I supposed to explain this?’

After a moment of consideration, Jiang Fan said, "Having a baby is like hatching an egg."

"Mommy is the mother hen, and Daddy is the rooster. Mommy needs to hatch the egg, and Daddy, the rooster, needs to go out and find food to provide for you and Mommy."

Mengmeng found it a bit convoluted, but she understood part of it. "Mengmeng gets it! Daddy is nature’s deliveryman."

"Mhm, well said."
