Chapter 215: Chapter 215: Indirect Probing

"What the hell? I’m a goddamn virgin, and you’re asking me how many women I’ve been with?"

"Would you believe me if I said 800?"

The question almost made Jiang Fan slam on the gas and take them both out.

"A virgin? You? Hmph."

Li Muwan shot him a sidelong glance and snorted coldly.

"This is the greatest insult to my character! I have the right to remain silent. I won’t say another word until my lawyer arrives."

Jiang Fan stomped on the gas and sped off, speaking through gritted teeth.

"Heh."

Seeing Zhou Jing and Li Jiaxiang waiting in the distance, the two of them stopped bickering.

With perfect, unspoken coordination, they both put on loving expressions.

But in the depths of their eyes, they could both see mutual contempt.

"Dad, you sit in the passenger seat. I want to sit in the back with Mom."

Li Muwan pulled open the door, pushed Li Jiaxiang inside, and then squeezed into the back, sitting right next to Zhou Jing.

During a brief, accidental glance, Jiang Fan saw a flash of cunning in her expression.

’This woman is definitely doing this on purpose!’

With Li Jiaxiang sitting right beside him, the pressure was immense, and Jiang Fan couldn’t afford to show any cracks in his performance.

Letting out a slow breath, Jiang Fan focused all his attention on driving, not daring to let his concentration waver for even a second.

’If I put all my effort into this one thing, you can’t possibly still find trouble with me, right?’

Especially when driving, one’s attention must remain completely undivided.

But sometimes, things don’t go according to plan.

If the roads had been clear or traffic had been normal, it would have been fine.

But of all things, they ran into a massive traffic jam.

The mother-daughter pair in the back were deep in conversation, completely ignoring the two men in the front.

Jiang Fan stared straight ahead, feigning perfect composure.

His intensely focused expression made it seem as if he were studying the cars ahead, analyzing when traffic would move and what had caused the jam in the first place.

His face even took on a hint of seriousness.

"Fan, do you smoke?"

Li Jiaxiang, sitting beside him, seemed to have noticed his tension and proactively took out a cigarette case, offering one to him.

But Jiang Fan didn’t even seem to notice, his gaze remaining fixed on the road ahead.

Thinking he hadn’t heard, Li Jiaxiang asked again.

But Jiang Fan still acted as if he hadn’t heard, completely ignoring him.

From the back seat, the mother and daughter watched this scene with great interest.

Li Jiaxiang also felt a laugh coming on and turned to glance at his wife and daughter.

"Dad, look at you. I told you not to be so serious all the time. Look how scared you’ve made Jiang Fan."

"Jiang Fan, my dad is talking to you. Didn’t you hear?"

Li Muwan leaned forward and tugged on Jiang Fan’s ear.

"Hey, hey, that’s rude. Why are you pulling on his ear?"

Zhou Jing slapped Li Muwan’s hand away.

"Huh?? What??"

Jiang Fan snapped out of it as if waking from a dream.

His sudden, startled reaction made all three of them laugh.

"My dad asked if you smoke. He asked you twice. What were you thinking about?"

You have to admit, women are natural-born actresses. The Li Muwan of this moment was a completely different person from the one at the office.

Especially with her words and actions right now, anyone who didn’t know better would truly believe she and Jiang Fan were a couple, and a very loving one at that.

"We’re in a traffic jam, so I was just thinking about work."

"I got a little too lost in thought. I’m sorry, Uncle. I don’t smoke."

"Wan said smoking is bad for the baby."

He glanced at the unmarked cigarette case in Li Jiaxiang’s hand as he hastily offered his refusal.

"Hmm???"

"What??"

The three of them each reacted differently.

Li Jiaxiang’s gaze toward Jiang Fan was dangerous. He then turned his head to shoot a glare at Li Muwan.

His eyes held a warning, a sense of disappointment in her for not living up to his expectations, and above all, worry for his daughter.

As the mother, however, Zhou Jing’s face showed only concern.

"When did this happen? You silly girl, you don’t tell your mother anything."

"Are you trying to worry me to death?"

"No, Mom, don’t listen to him."

"It’s not true. I’m not pregnant."

Li Muwan was seething internally. She knew this was Jiang Fan’s revenge.

"I’m really not pregnant. I just told him that if I *were* to get pregnant in the future, smoking would be bad for the baby, especially secondhand smoke."

As she said this, Li Muwan’s cheeks turned slightly red, and she put on a bashful expression, playing the part of a shy young woman perfectly.

Even Jiang Fan found himself captivated by her performance.

"You’re really not? If you are, while it’s not showing yet, our two families should find a time to hold the wedding quickly—"

"Huh? Mom, Dad, you agree?"

Li Muwan was clearly and pleasantly surprised.

"What I said is based on the premise that you’re pregnant," he said. "Let me tell you, you absolutely cannot get pregnant before you’re married! You remember that."

"Fan, did you hear what I just said?"

"Huh?"

Jiang Fan was caught completely off guard. He thought the warning was directed at Li Muwan.

He never expected it was aimed entirely at him.

"Ahem, don’t worry, Uncle. I understand."

At this point, Zhou Jing spoke up. "By the way, I haven’t had a chance to ask. Fan, is your family from Yang City?"

"That’s right. I grew up right here."

"Then with your parents gone, it must be quite hard for you on your own, isn’t it?"

"It’s been a little hard, but it’s manageable. I’ve made it through all these years! I believe that as long as I’m willing to work hard, I can achieve everything I want with my own two hands."

"And I will give Wan the life she wants to have."

Jiang Fan’s words were filled with determination.

After just those few simple sentences, Zhou Jing no longer felt the need to ask the young man anything else.

’Anyone who can say such things, who can go from having nothing to where he is now, must be sound in both character and ability. There’s no question about it.’

’Besides, she trusted her own daughter’s judgment.’

’Compared to a hardworking and ambitious young man like this, that young master from the Liu Family seemed like a lost cause.’

"This is how a man should be!"

"Fan, you’re very impressive!"

This was the first time Li Jiaxiang had reached out to pat Jiang Fan’s shoulder, and the first time his voice carried a note of affirmation.
